Re: Official "I want to build a New PC!" Thread
I have a massive case but it will still be tight. The big thing is if I would have clearance for the ram. I'm pretty sure I do by taking measurements. Think I'm just gonna do it and worst thing that can happen is I have to return it.
EDIT: Also I just love getting new PC stuff. Even if it small little things. Tinkering is fun.Comment

Re: Official "I want to build a New PC!" Thread
yeah if my watercooler fails again i'm done with it too. It looks pretty and keeps everything supercool but not worth the frustration.
My gpu is watercooled too (Aorus Gigabyte Waterforce 1080ti) and I'm worried thats gonna fail a lot sooner than I want it.Comment

Water cool risk to reward just isn’t worth it to me.
I’ll stick with air cool until I could afford a repclament on the spot if things go wrong.Comment

Yep I agree. Watercool keeps temps low but I've had nothing but problems. Luckily nothing crazy like a leak but still. I've spent around $230 on both combined. Never gonna see that money again.Comment

Re: Official "I want to build a New PC!" Thread
It warms my heart I'm not the only one on the "no water cooler" train. I've always gone aftermarket fan and never had an issue with temps and maintenance is next to zero. This is the first build I've gone water cooled and while my temps are lower than air, it leaves me always wanting to monitor all the time because a pump failing worries me. I'm tempted to order a good fan and go back to air just for the peace of mind.Comment

Dude this is what happened to my last pump. I had no idea anything was wrong. All sensors said things were good. Then I was playing a game (thank god I usually have Afterburner up on my other monitor) and saw my CPU go from a cold 34c to a gaming 96c!!!! Before it had never even reached 70c when gaming. I quickly shut down the game but the auto off still kicked in and shut down the PC for about 30 min. I was so pissed. I'd only had that cooler for maybe 8 months. Now this new one I've had for maybe 3 months is acting up (my bad for buying a no name brand because I was impatient) and I'm over it. Very happy to be going back to air cooled. Now just got to make sure I can get it to fit lol.Comment

Thanks man, I needed to hear that today, I posted this same pic on Facebook and made a joke about it turning my drink blue and people sort of savaged the lighting. I guess some folks just hate lighting but oh well, I love it...
Maybe it's because I'm old and remember when computers were boring vanilla desktop with no window and no lights lol

Add me to the air cooling train......Fans are cheap. If it fails, you can easily replace the dead fan.Comment

Re: Official "I want to build a New PC!" Thread
Got the Noctua NH-D14 installed today. Took some work. That freaking thing is huge!!!!! I took the measurements but you don't realize how big it is until you're actually holding it lol. My case is huge and it just barley fit. I actually had to move a side fan to the bottom because it wasn't going to close. As feared my ram was an issue. But I just popped off the covers and went old school with it and it fit just perfectly. Had some booting issues but I just didn't click in the ram sticks all the way. Rookie mistake and was a quick fix.
This thing is a beauty. It is keeping my cpu at the same temps as the watercooler was. It's super quite and I have piece of mind that I didn't have with the watercooler. Feeling good. Did some benchmarking and things were running smooth. Only other test is to get an hour or so of intense gaming in to really test it. But need to install the GPU cooler first. Hopefully I'll get that done tomorrow.
Side note. As I said yesterday the weather here in SD is stupid right now. Mid 90's and stupid humid. Us San Diego natives are not use to this crap (because we are weather *****'s lol) and I was sweating my *** off installing this thing. I had a freaking NBA sweat going on. Pretty dumb if you ask me.Last edited by tdawg3782; 08-11-2018, 12:38 AM.Comment
