The reused maps are an issue for me as well. I would like to see more unique areas. The way I explain it though is that all these little bases and stations were originally made by the same people (i.e. Alliance developers) so it was probably cheaper for them to stick with a few simple designs.

Re: Mass Effect Discussion
This is exactly how I feel. I watch the Science Channel regularly, and it's a real kick for me to see the depth of their research with these outer systems. It feels much more like real space exploratoin ideas when there are planets that are just gas or ice, rather than having one system of several planets that are all inhabitable. This game gives me the real feeling of the mystery of space. What I like most about this game is what I'm sure most people like the least; and that is the mostly empty, barren planet landscapes.
I know this game is a fantasy-world set 200 years in the future, but just reading through the Codex it's obvious that the game is loosely-based on reality (hell, they named the game after the substance known as Dark Matter!), and the mostly empty, non-landable planets helps to keep me grounded in that sense of realism.
In real life, every planet that we know of is most likely devoid of any intelligent life (due to the environmental hazards), so when I'm cruising along an uninhabitable planet in M.E., I feel like the game is providing me with a simulation of what it would be like if I were ever fortunate enough to explore an uncharted planet (the particles/debris floating in some of the atmospheres are fantastic).
I'm sure I'm in the minority here, but if most of the planets were bustling with intelligent life-forms, and huge cities, M.E. would be a less enjoyable role-playing experience for me because whatever sense of realism the game was trying to achieve would be lost.

And the profiles of the planets are really well done. I haven't read all of them but they put alot of detail into this game. This is exactly how I feel. Don't ever let anyone tell you otherwise.
If I went any bigger, it would not have properly fit with my equipment, so I had to optimize. I'm okay with it, but I also know what I'm missing with those five inches. :)Comment

Re: Mass Effect Discussion
Agreed. I love how they have a relatively long write up for planets that you can't land on or even survey for anything. That level of detail just makes this game much more immersive. Can't wait for Mass Effect 2...and I'm not even done with this one yet.Comment

Re: Mass Effect Discussion
I'm a bit sad now. I just unlocked the completionish achievment and I'm just over 20 hours in. A damned good ride nonetheless. Time for me to wrap up a few more sidequests to prolong this first run through.Comment

Re: Mass Effect Discussion
I am really taking my time with this game . I am hitting the side quests and the main story ones. This game is too good to endComment

Re: Mass Effect Discussion
I thought I was taking my time with the sidequests. I'll admit that I haven't stopped at every possible planet, just the ones for sidequests and main storyline.Comment

Re: Mass Effect Discussion
Yes that's what I'm doing as well. I think I'm nearing the end of the game, I'm probably going to finish it somewhere in the 30+ hour range. I wish it was four times as long. Good lord it's difficult to come to grips with the idea that this game is ending. NOOO! Oh well, just means I can play through it again. woot!Comment

Re: Mass Effect Discussion
The sad thing is I already have my other characters setup. Should be noted that my level of fun with the game picked up even more when I decided to start making use of my Infiltrator's tech mines. Helped me make quick work of an unexpected Geth Armature.Comment

Re: Mass Effect Discussion
A few times you'll get a sidequest when landing on a planet. I went through every system before completion, just to make sure i didn't miss anything.PS: You guys are great.

Re: Mass Effect Discussion
3. I'm also a Vangaurd and I don't think we can do that. However, as long as you carry around Garrus or Talia and their electronics and decryption skills are high enough, you can open EVERYTHING in the gamelol you're welcome but I can't take full credit for that. it was posted earlier in the thread, I was having problems with the mission and saw that post last night and finally completed it.
I have a few questions:
1. how do I get more grenades? not carry more, just restock so I have 4?
2. the mission "UNC espionage probe" in the Amazon system of the Voyager cluster.SpoilerI have done the first part of the mission and disarmed the bomb. the second part says to escape and, if possible, kill Haliat. Well I couldn't find him anywhere but I did make it back to the Normandy, yet the mission is still incomplete. What do I do?
3. I am a vanguard, currently level 17 and close to 18. Is it possible to up my electronics and decryption skills? I want to recover the lost probes I come across, but it says my electronics skill is too low. What can I do about that?

Yeah, not sure if I'll do that or not. Might some day. Going to go take out Geth Outposts when I hop on today.Comment

Re: Mass Effect Discussion
so after many missions, I find some shops and make some purchases. A new assault rifle and sniper rifle for Ashley, a new assault rifle and new armor for Wrex. and a new shotgun (the Firestorm IV) and new armor for myself. Now I have 3,000 credits leftover lol.Lux y VeritasComment

After a certain point finding mineral deposits and surveying them add up as do finding items for the collection quests.Comment

Re: Mass Effect Discussion
I beat the game finally but man I was so pissed at that mission where you had to find the council spies and first meet the reaper ship that Saren is on.
The bad thing is that Ashley was my love interest.SpoilerSo I talk to the one alien and he said something about a cure for the genofage or whatever is is called that Wrex has, well anyway he gets all PO'ed and walks off then I have to talk to him and calm him down. Well I am talking to him then we turn guns on each other, I start to talk to him then Ashley kills him.....I never yelled at a TV that much in my life. So I go to hit load so he wouldn't die and I accidently save...lol. So then at the end I had Kaiden come with me and Ashley go with the other guys because I was pissed at her. Then I chose to save Kaiden and not Ashley. Surves her right for shooting Wrex.Last edited by Candyman5; 11-29-2007, 04:27 PM.PS4 Twitch: http://www.twitch.tv/candyman5os
