It just dawned on me that I will be playing this game for the rest of my life. My unborn kids will be playing this game. I will tell them of the story of me standing in line at midnight behind a guy dressed as a wizard just to get the game a few hours early. IT WILL BE A GRAND TALE.

I found a good place for dwarven metal. And steel, silver, gold, and Iron seem to be the only things I've gotten from mines so far.

But I'm looking for Moonstone, Quiksilver, Orichalcum, Ebony, Corundrum, etc. Anybody know of places for either ingots/ores or things I can break down with a smelter for any of these (Other than buying them)?

I've been looking for and hitting up mines looking for materials to train smithery.

Can someone help me out? I'm not normally the one to ask for help on this kind of stuff but I've spent close to 3 hours just trying to figure out what the **** the deal is. I'm with the Greybeards doing the training in the courtyard. I've learned the sprint shout and I've done it for the guy. Now he says something like "Exel!" or something like that, the gate opens and then closes. Then he says either "Is that your best effort, try again". Or he'll say "Come dragon boy, attend master borri." Then he proceeds to walk off back inside, if I try to follow him he just walks back to the 2 little mini towers and does it all over again.

I've tried talking to the Borri guy, tried asking Arngrier or whatever his name is everything. All the possible things I can ask are grayed out. I've broken through the gate, got inside the gate before it closes, everything. Same **** happens. *facepalm*

Any hints or ideas would be appreciated..

What are you doing exactly when they want you to take the test? Are you standing between the 2 pillars and just holding the shout button as soon as the gate opens? Are you running forward first then using shout?

I've been using the shout just pressing it, not actually running forward first. Is that the problem?

Are you making it thru in time?

It might be a hold shout too.

I've tried doing the quick shout and hold shout. I make it pass the gate before it closes, still the same result. Very frustrating.

Just try running towards the gate and using the whirlwing sprint to make it through the gate before it closes.

Done that probably at least a couple dozen times. I've tried going in then coming out, still not working. I'm really thinking maybe it's bugged out. I've looked at some videos on youtube and people have no problem, they just talk to the guy and it gives them the "final trial".

I think I'm just going to have to go back one save and redo it, not too much work. Just run back there and redo that, just frustrated that I spent so much time messing around there trying to figure out what the deal is to only restart back where I was at 5:00 this afternoon.

Yea, I ended up in Solitude by accident the first time. I dont use fast travel at all, just walk everywhere or take the horse carriage in the big citys once I have been to them on foot. I like to make it feel like I discovered the place on my own. But I ended up out on my own when I didnt want to be and Solitude was the closest big city. So I hiked on over there to get a ride back to Whiterun, I didnt end up leaving for awhile though, the place is just awesome.

Ive seen similar things happen, not something as important but when the guy in riverwood asked me to make a leather helm the same thing happened to me. I made that damn helmet 4 times and it was still showing that i didnt make it.
