Re: Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim
I think you guys are talking about two different things:
SpoilerThe beginning is slightly different based on who you follow out during the opening dragon attack sequence.
-If you follow the Imperial guy who was nice to you, you met up with his family (The blacksmith's house). You get some free items and some rest, but are then only allowed in as you would be any other house.
-If you follow the Stormcloak fugitive out, you meet up with his family (Hod and Gerdur...the loggers). You get some free stuff here too, I think, and also a key to their house and an offer to use it.
To kind of answer the question about storing stuff there, my friend went that route and has stored stuff with no real problem, but he's only stored things of minimal value just in case. To my knowledge he hasn't run into any issues.
Personally, I'm paranoid about losing good loot and would just immediately invest in the house in Whiterun (it's $5,000 gold-but apparently there's a trick to get it and keep your money too).We totally were totally talking about two different things! The answer might still be the same though. I wouldn't store anything in a house unless I was sure nobody else has access to it.

Re: Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim
From just after the beginningSpoilerThe guy you break out with tells you to talk to his sister, I think she gives you the key when you talk to her.
I killed a giant, they hit for a lot, but they don't have huge amounts of HP and they do stagger. I thought I was screwed when my follower darted off to fight it, but I ran in anyway, it swung once and missed then overhand power swing, stagger, overhead power swing, stagger, overhead power swing, stagger, regular swipe, force shout, stagger, overhead power swing, death (I'm a 2h, heavy armor Orc, BTW).
Just a tip: When decorating your house, spending over an hour manipulating decorations into the perfect spot, it might be good to unequip your shout so you don't accidentally hit it and ruin all your work. I almost wanted to cry.
Edit: From beginningSpoilerOh, so you can follow more than just one guy? I don't remember having a choice.Comment

Re: Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim
I still can't get over the sense of scale in this game. After a week I still stop and look around when I reach the top of a mountain. I still think of all the peaks that I haven't climbed yet. Every cave and dungeon has a unique feel that you want to leave no stone unturned. I am 30+ hours in and I still see new things and new random encounters. All this and I haven't even went to see the Greybeards yet.
This game owns me right now.
Stewards are usually next to the Jard in the main hall. If you are in Whiterun, its the highest building called Dragons Reach.Comment

The stewards are usually found in the throne room of the hold you bought the house in. It's probably the same guy you bought the house from in the first place.Oakland Athletics San Jose Sharks

Do this today: Instead of $%*#!@& on a game you're not going to play or movie you're not going to watch, say something good about a piece of media you're excited about.
Do the same thing tomorrow. And the next. Now do it forever.Comment

The vast majority of the stuff you see around is junk, for atmosphere or just loot more that anything. It's not like a traditional RPG where pretty much everything you pickup has a purpose.-Ohio State-

Re: Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim
I'm playing as wood elf and just fought a very easy dragon battle. There were 2 giants and 3 mammoths attacking the poor dragon. I know, everyone has pretty much had this happen to them, the giants and mammoths started to attack me after the dragon died but.... Of course, being a wood elf, I can command animals. The giants got brutalized by the very own animal they protect.Last edited by mikenoob; 11-17-2011, 09:38 PM.Comment
