It's very limited and sounds sort of like Fable 2 and 3.

Glitches in the simulation have begun to appear.

Visualised by strange floating orbs, up to 16 players can see and communicate with one another, and explore the universe together.

While interaction with others is currently very limited, this is an important first step into the world of synchronous co-op in No Man’s Sky.

While interaction is very limited, VOIP (Voice over IP) allows proximity based voice chat with other nearby explorers.

Use portals to quickly travel to more populated planets, or to meet up with friends.

I purchased it at launch on Steam only to refund in 45 minutes later. At $24, I think I'm going to pick it up on PC again.

Not to excuse them, but it's a year later and the content updates have been free. They could have took the money and ran, or pulled an Activision and Bungie and sold expansions of content that was clearly cut from Destiny (especially story related).

        ...

The added focus is what's piqued my interest.

No Man’s Sky’s Story Overhaul Gives The Game Focus

The 1.3 update for No Man’s Sky comes with a lot of changes, small and large.
        ...

But what I’ve found most interesting so far is the way the game has refined its story and how it shows what’s possible in No Man’s Sky to players.

When I played No Man’s Sky at launch, it was easy to get lost and confused. This was a part of the game’s appeal, in a way: to be able to get so deeply lost in a vast universe. I’d go from planet to planet, just looking for the best sunsets or strangest creatures. Now the game has actual opening missions, as well as ones that span more than one planet and galaxy. I was a little afraid that a more structured game would take away from the joy of exploration, but instead it’s made the game easier to parse. Instead of making goals for myself 100% of the time, I now I have a neat thing to check out in each new galaxy. Many of these introduced me to new gameplay elements. On one planet, I learned how to make antimatter. On the next, I found my first outpost. This guiding hand is sparse enough that I don’t feel pigeonholed towards one way of playing the game but direct enough that I now have a much clearer sense of what to do if I get bored of sunsets. For the even more mysterious additions, like portals, there’s now a in-game guide that will tell you what to do with them when you find them.

The more of these larger improvements only add to the comfusion as to why the hell they released this game so early?

They boxed themselves in. They should have released it this Fall or next spring.

I had to request a refund on Steam, because the game crashed 3 times for me in just an hour while using the scanner, and scanning things seems like a core mechanic.

How is performance on PS4 Pro?

Really? You didn't even give them a chance to patch it. They've already released a 1.31 patch which I guess fixed bugs in the 1.30 patch. (This is for PS4 BTW).

This is like a complete overhaul, almost like I'm playing a brand new game. Only problem is that it kinda messed up my cataloging a bit.

Edit: Yeah, the galaxy is like completely altered now. Before I was ~163,000 ly from center and now I'm ~605,000 ly from center. Also, it doesn't seem to indicate the spectral class of the star anymore. This is really altering my cataloging.

Yes, and I'm glad a platform like Steam has my back. Why exactly should I have to put up with crashes and in the first hour? I can always buy it again if they fix things. And I'm curious about the performance on PS4 Pro, because it if it's more stable now, then I will just play it on there.

Played a couple of hours on PS4 Pro and so far, it's pretty good. Some occasional frame rate dips and menu lag, but nothing crazy. Now that I understand some of the basics, I want to try Survival before getting to deep into Normal mode.

No Man's Sky 'Next' update teased, game headed to Xbox 1

Hello Games is planning a new update for its space exploration game, No Man’s Sky. Called “Next,” it’s due to be launched in August this year. No Man’s Sky will also be released on Xbox One, to complement current platforms PlayStation 4 and Windows PC.

Details on what No Man’s Sky Next will actually entail have not been revealed as yet. According to Hello Games’ co-founder Sean Murray, the Next update is based on player feedback. It will also expand on story themes introduced in previous updates.

“We called this update ‘Next,’ because it’s an important next step on a longer journey for us and the community,” said Murray, in an email sent to Polygon. “We’ve been working our socks off on this and it’s by far our biggest update so far. It will be free to existing players, and we’ll continue to support No Man’s Sky in this way for the foreseeable future.”

May have to look into what the game actually is now and if it's worthwhile to get on XB1. I like exploration games, but need some sort of goal/purpose or else it just kinda gets old.

I enjoyed it alot when I had a PS4...then again I got it for free 6 months after launch so I never got caught in the whole "blown expectations" fiasco.

It's a lot of fun IMO exploring different planets. I felt like I was Spock in TOS or something, seeing new planets and lifeforms, etc. Glad it's coming to XB1.
