Someone on reddit created a thread about it. He said it's really freaking hard.

You start far from your ship with zero resources and your life support depletes at a much faster rate.

He was constantly hiding out from the cold and had to progress in such a way that his only goal was to find the next area for shelter.

Nice for those that wanted that. I look forward to the creative approach though base building isn't of high interest to me. Not sure I see the point.

No, your are given 3 options. You can either resume from your last save point on "normal" or start a new game/save on "creator" or "survival" mode. The way it came up, it looks like you can have independent save files of each type too.

It will still have your save but you can start the other 2 modes fresh. Survival mode is a Bitch!

I will be starting over anyway, I had already planned to even before the patch.

I am hoping they add a sandbox mode of some sort eventually...if they do anymore updates.

This, Skyrim, and Ratchet and Clank will be taking up all my time now.

This and Skyrim are going to eat up most of it!

I think that's basically what creative is? That came in this update along with survival.

"Indulge your creativity and construction skills, with unlimited health and resources, and zero building costs"

                  It does disable trophies, though.

Yeah, survival mode is no joke. Priority one is sustaining your own life before going out to look for your ship (which, for me, dropped about a 15 - minute walk from my starting location)

I'm really loving this game with the new update. Sorta reminds of one of my all-time faves, Fallout 3, but without the unnecessary narrative and combat. Sometime I just want to explore and discover new stuff, and this game definitely scratches that itch.

I have not fired it up in a while and will with the new update. Tell me what mode and what are you seeing different.

Better generation of planets and environments? Better creature movements and variety? Inquiring space explorers want to know!

To be honest, I didn't get very far on my first go-around. I didn't dislike it, the game just didn't hold my interest. Right now I'm just loving exploring the planet, getting absorbed in the atmosphere and surroundings, feeding alien species, upgrading equipment, etc. It's a very peaceful pace, which I suppose the game always had.

My son has played more than I have, he started up a Creative save last night. It seems very Minecraft-ish, he was building an elaborate homebase in no time flat. It's similar to Fallout 4's crafting/building system, but it seems to work much better from an implementation standpoint. Structural pieces "snap together" easier, if that makes any sense.

He was also able to recruit alien builders on a remote space station, he said that didn't exist before.

Is it safe to assume that if you start one of the other modes you would lose whatever you had before?

They're separate saves. You won't lose progress until you delete your save for that specific mode.

If you're starting a brand new game save (survival or normal), then you begin with only the starting equipment.
