I did (wife actually) as well yesterday! With two planets discovered out of three, it was neat.

The Path Finder update introduces planetary vehicles, base sharing, PS4 Pro support, ship/weapon specialisation, permadeath mode, and much more. It shows the path for the future.

          Among the notable changes:
          • bases are shared online
          • new ground vehicles
          • create custom ground vehicle time trials (???)
          • starship and multitool specializations
          • PS4 Pro support
          • more base building parts
          • Permadeath gameplay mode
          • dedicated photo mode accessible from D-Pad menu
          • new music
          • home planet is indicated up on Discovery menu
          • can rename ships and freighters

I really need a mix of this game and Factorio. I wouldn't play anything else for the rest of the year.

The continued work and updates on this title are commendable, should goose sales on Steam w/ a nice sale. Bad taste has faded enough to at least consider adding it to the collection.

Like the updates. Game is still on-hold for me as I finish other games from my back log. Last I left it, I was on my 5th planet in my solar system. A dead planet, but it needs to be explored. Would like to get back maybe later this year however, Elite Dangerous is coming soon to PS4 and I hear great things about that game. Keep it up Hello Games. I'll keep watching.

I had put the game down in late December or so when I ran into a glitch with my freighter - the custom rooms would get disconnected - and I was waiting for a title update to fix it. Hopefully this update addresses that issue I was having as well.

I was clearly wrong with how much post-launch support we were gonna get from HG after this game went live. Props to the team at HG for continuing to develop and improve the game. New update sounds really cool.

                      Re: No Man's Sky

I truthfully do want to get back into this game. It was actually really fun when I was playing. The only thing was figuring out that there wasn't going to be more to do, if that makes sense. If I was secluded from the Internet entirely, I could have played for 100 hours before questioning whether I could actually obtain this-or-that element, run into other players, etc. I still don't know the ending, and I don't plan to find out until/unless I ever reach the center of the universe.

But hot damn, I have a backlog like no tomorrow. Doesn't help that I just got into ESPN NFL 2K5 again, and RDR 2 will be sneaking up on us shortly as well. I feel like there are some games that I'm just never going to finish, and the $60 (well, $48) I shell out per title almost "goes to waste."

I'm just glad Murray & gang didn't actually just take the money and run though. Knowing there is support is a big plus when it comes to falling back into their circle of trust.

Few things that I don't like about the new update.

                        1. They added a new element called Detritum (sounds like decaying organic matter = detritus ) which requires an exocraft mining laser. The part that annoys me is that they basically converted a many of the iron structures into detritum including seemingly all the large underwater iron formations meaning there is basically no iron to be found to make more shielding plates to recharge your aeration membrane when exploring underwater

                        2. I like to record all the statistics about each planet I discover in a spreadsheet, but the new HUD display doesn't show Tox/Rad readings (at least on planets where they aren't hazardous).

                        3. They removed the black background from the box that pops up in the lower left when you discover a new animal or planet where it tells you about your discovery and this makes it harder to read, at least for those of us who might be visually impaired.

It's been awhile since we've heard from Hello Games. Got to admit, their techniques are curious for sure. Yet, something new might be coming?

The developers behind No Man's Sky are definitely up to something. It's being reported that 16 different individuals (seemingly all Reddit moderators) No Man's Sky subReddit community have (or are still receiving) received packages from Hello Games with various merchandise and a single cassette tape.

It is believed that there are only 16 cassette tapes, as each tape is numbered out of 16. So far, six people have revealed that they received a package. The subReddit moderators reached out to Hello Games to verify that it had indeed been them and not someone else playing a prank. Hello Games confirmed the authenticity of the tapes and allowed the moderators to share their findings with the community.

One of the tapes (number 12 of 16) came with a piece of text that suggests portals might be making their way to the game:

"The giant gateway calls out to me, filling my mind with whispered secrets of a far-flung world"
Another cassette came with a tease of "hope you like what's next."

The No Man's Sky Reddit community is working to upload the content of all the videos into a digital format and share them. The hope is that everyone can come together and solve the puzzle.

It appears as though Hello Games is teasing their next big update, but beyond the addition of portals, no one knows what's coming yet.

Still haven't returned to this game since the 1st or 2nd month after it came out, but the major updates they've made to this game seem pretty impressive; at least from the outside looking in.

I wonder how this game would have been received if it had initially come out with all the features that are now in the game.

Seems like the consensus opinion is that this is one of the worst games ever and I find that pretty hard to believe.

I still plan to pick it up one day when it hits the $20 mark for PC. I think there's enough interesting things in the game to keep me playing for 20-30 hours. It just seems like the "goal" of the game was a huge let down but it sounds like everyone joined the initial exploring stage and the wonder of seeing strange planets and creatures before it became too repetitive.
