2023 White Sox Franchise - Spring Training

We are bout at the half way point of Spring training at 11-2, despite having the worst offense in spring to this point. Been playing every game in spring so far as I hope that patch 1.11 will come out and fix the pitcher as DH bug before I get to the regular season.

We are dead last in runs scored at 31 and homers with only 5 as a team...there's 5 players in the AL that have as many homers as we have as a team. Hopefully the offense will warm up by the time the regular season starts.

Pitching obviously is the best in the league in spring so far. As a team we have a 0.85 ERA in the first 13 games, only giving up 11 runs and only 3 homers against.

We did make a couple trades.

First we made a trade with the Yankees

    Yankees get:
    SP Reynaldo Lopez
    C Welington Castillo

    White Sox get:
19 year old C Edwin Aguilera (64 OVR C POT)
24 year old SP Drew Lowry (70 OVR C POT)
20 year old SS David Yang (73 OVR C POT)
19 year old CF Ben Sanchez (61 OVR B POT)

Aquilera could possibly be a back up Catcher after a few years of development
Lowry was just a throw in for some depth.
Yang possibly will be a decent guy off the bench in a few seasons.
Sanchez could possibly be our CF of the future with some development

We also made a deal with the Angels.

    Angels get:
    RF Daniel Palka

    White Sox get:
22 year old SP Peter Sierra (74 OVR, C POT)
22 Year old RP Bernardo Montoya (67 OVR B POT)

Sierra will have a shot to be our Spot starter/long reliever out of Spring.
Montoya gives us a left handed relief prospect that we didn't have.

Does anyone else primarily sim/quick manage games? I like getting deep into franchises and 30 team control while hopping in for key moments and playoff runs/playoffs but I'm looking to get the right sliders when I start with Ridin's latest roster.

I have taken control of all 30 MLB teams and put all control settings to Auto. The season seems to be advancing as it should, with injuries, call-ups, etc. But I have seen no evidence of any trades (now nearing end of May). Is there some setting or slider that needs to be positioned so that Auto (CPU-controlled) trades will occur?

            2019 Texas Rangers Fantasy Franchise

June 17: We got things turned back around and went 5-2 on the road trip. After taking 3 out of 4 in Boston in 4 tightly contested games, we dropped the 1st game in Cincy 5-2. We then bounced back and won the final two games behind strong pitching from our two Lefty starters Minor(MLB best 11-1) and Strahm(6-5).

We are now 49-22 on the year and have a 6.5 game lead on 2nd place Oakland in the West. Matt Carpenter added 3 more HR to his MLB leading total and now has 31 to go along with 70 RBI(also 1st).

To put it in perspective how tight are games have been and how great Jeffress has been for us, he saved 13 of our wins in a row for us until the very last win in Cincy which was a comfortable 6-1 victory. Lots of 1-2 run games and we’ve been coming out on top more often than not.

We come back home to Arlington for 4 games vs 1st place Cleveland(44-26) and then 3 vs the White Sox(31-41). After those 7 games we FINALLY have a day off.

              Another insane finish.

Leading 4-2 going into the bottom of the ninth, I call upon Pedro Strop for the second consecutive night to close the game. This time Strop is only able to record one out while allowing bases loaded. I knew Strop just didn't have it at that point and I needed to give someone else a chance to close the game out, albeit a pressure situation. Who better than the guy that saved Game 7 of the 2016 World Series for the Cubs, Mike Montgomery.

I strike out the first batter with Montgomery and then get into a long battle with Max Muncy. I just can't put him away and eventually I float a fastball over the heart of the plate. Muncy gets all of it and as soon as the ball goes up I know it's gone... a walk-off grand slam. I run Heyward back to the wall in desperation try to time my jump and to my surprise, he leaps WAY up off the fence and brings the ball back.

Robbed a walk-off grand slam for the win! Unbelievable.

Wacha shines in return..Cards beat Brewers 10-0

Michael Wacha returned to the mound after being on the IL the better of two months with a torn labrum and shined in that return. Shined may not be the correct adjective, as Wacha pitched a complete game shutout in front of the home fans against the Brewers. Wacha only allowed 3 hits, issued zero walks, and struck out 4. He didn't miss many bats, but he had Brewers' hitters off balance all night. Wacha was actually scheduled to start July 12th against the Cubs, but his start was actually moved up as Weaver had a family emergency that prevented him from starting. Weaver is expected to start July 12th.

Wacha received plenty of offensive help as the Cardinals jumped out 3-0 in the first thanks to a Jon Singleton 3 run homerun. Two innings later it would be 7-0 after Juan Fabregas blasted a 437ft grand slam in the 3rd. Fabregas would add another RBI in his next at-bat in the 5th, while Tulo then delivered 2 more RBI's in the 7th to put the score at 10-0.

The only negative to the night was Patrick Wisdom continues to be in a funk at the plate. After walking in his first at-bat after the all star break, he proceeded to strike out in each of his next 3 at-bats, before harmlessly popping out in foul territory in his final at bat. Since Wisdom participated in the homerun derby and all-star game, there is talk that he may get tomorrow, and possibly Sunday off, to re-focus.

Cardinals will have Carlos Martinez on the mound for game 2 as the Cardinals look to put together a win streak to get second half of the season started. Brewers haven't announced who will start game 2 for them.

Cardinals seeking bullpen arm(s) for playoff run

The Cardinals are searching the market for a bullpen arm or two as they begin the 2nd half of the season and a run at their 7th consecutive playoff appearance. They feel confident with the pen they have now, but an addition could help solidify what they have. They traded a struggling Adam Cimber earlier this year and have been using Zack Burdi in his place, but Burdi hasn't been as reliable as they had hoped. Also, Trevor Rosenthal's cold snap is concerning to the club/front office as well. Rosenthal had blown 5 saves in the last 2 weeks leading up to the All-Star Break.

Relief arms are always available, just a matter of what/who you're looking for and the "price" you're willing to pay to acquire your target. No names have been mentioned thus far, but Edwin Diaz of the struggling Mariners is considered to be a top target.

The Cardinals are currently 7 games out of first in the Central and 2 games out of the wildcard. Adding another solid arm to the pen could help steady a ship that is beginning to ever so slightly rock.

So I salvaged the final 2 games vs the Cardinals to split the series...I now sit at 69-48. Harper and Bryant continue to pound out HRs and sit at the top of the league with 43 and 40, respectfully. Harper is on a 60 HR pace....this would be a first for me as the most I've ever hit in a season was 57 with KB 3 or 4 years ago.

FWIW, I have only had three 50 HR seasons in whats now 12 season of a franchise. KB has had 2 and I have one with Rizzo. Have yet to have one with Harper despite having over 500 career bombs.

Cardinals take 2 of 3 from Brewers. Cubs next

The Cardinals took 2 games of the 3 game series against the Brewers to kick off the 2nd half of the season on a good note. The Cardinals won the first game of the series and then the rubber game series finale. The Cardinals got very good pitching in this series, despite losing the second game 4-2 to the Brewers. Michael Wacha shined in his return to the mound and Jack Flaherty continues to be a strikeout machine, racking up 9 in the series finale.

Harrison Bader and Juan Fabregas were on fire with the bat, going a combined 17 of 22 with 2 homeruns, 8 RBI's, and 5 doubles. Again the one lone downer for the series was Patrick Wisdom who continues to slump. He didn't record a hit in this series and only reached base once, via a walk. He did sit out Sunday's series finale to try and re-gain his focus.

The Cardinals will welcome their arch rival the Cubs to Busch for a 3 game series. A big series for the Cardinals to try to get back into the Central division race.

Carson Kelly to IL with pulled hamstring

The Cardinals have placed Carson Kelly on the 10 Day IL due to a pulled hamstring. Kelly suffered the injury running to second base during a double play.

Andrew Knizer has been recalled from Memphis to take his roster spot.

After losing 3 out of 4 to Colorado at home, then 2 out of 3 in Milwaukee in what appears to be a total late season meltdown, the Cardinals have decided to completely clear the slate! This is a different kind of league than anybody has ever navigated before, but expectations were certainly extremely high for this club. So the organization has decided to waste no time finding the answers. They bring in a young fresh face in Bryan Quinones, who comes in highly touted as a motivational offensive minded coach. Signing him to a one year deal, but have openly said they are still deciding what the plans for next year will be.

In other news, the Memphis Redbirds have landed their spot in the PCL Playoffs and will be playing the OKC Dodgers in round 1!
