Re: MLB The Show 20 Franchise Discussion Thread

From my MLB 19 Nats/ Twins franchise, first of Nats( won 105 games) ran away with the NL East(were never challegned Phils, Braves & Mets under performed but Phillies will be a wild card) In the NL West Dodgers reigned supreme with the Rockies getting the other wild card spot. In all my years of playing The Show never seen a race the like the NL Central race, with 3 games left on the schedule(CHECK THIS OUT) the Cards and Reds are tied for the lead with the Brewers 1 GB, the Cubs 2GB and the Pirates 4GB(just eliminated from contention) I fon't know how the Franchise mode handles races like this with the possibility of play in games but this is WILD, also it's 3 teams for 1 spot because the WC Spots are already taking, this division literally beat up on each other all season(Great stuff!!!). Which leads me to something I've notivced over the last couple years in Franchise mode, teams used to be good and stay good all season, there never seem to be an ebb and flow to the teams but know some teams start hot & then flounder for a bunch of reasons be it injury or players not being consistent but it makes Franchise mode much better. Mean while in the AL East the Yankees hold onto win the division despite a valiant effort by the TB Rays(played with them as well, kind of like their team) It came down to a 2 games series with the Yankees at Tampa with a 2 game lead, Rays win the first one, then on one the best video game experiences ever, in game two with Blake Snell pitching a no hitter into the top of the 9th, Snells line 8.1 innings, 11 Ks, 3BB & only 2 hits on 119 pitches. So with 2 on & 1 out in the top of the 9, had to bring in the Rays closer facing Stanton on a 1 -2 count, throw him a low slider, he takes it DEEP to center, 3 run BOMB!!!😠😠😢😢😭😭😭
A video game GUT PUNCH!!! Get 2on against Chapman but can't score. Btw love dynamic attendance for the two games against Yanks at the Trop, two sellouts(26,000) btw I hate the Trop😝😝
In the AL Central, Cleveland wins with best record in the AL. In the AL West the Astros win it , with the wild card game being my Twins going to host the Rays(used about 20 games)

Will update how it goes in the Playoffs

      CHARLOTTE

      MINERS

      FRANCHISE

      game + draft

      Charlotte VS Milwaukee
      [5] - [8]
      Hitting battle at Miller Park

Righty James Shields started on the mound today as your Miners played the Brewers in what turned out to be a hitfest. Great showings from Omar Narvaez and Avisail Garcia propelled the Brewers as both teams used 5 pitchers. The best showing from the Miners was from Burns and Wade, who each had 2 RBI and 2 doubles.

      Game notes:
-These games are going to get progressively even more boring. We don't have a lot to talk about because we generally suck, haha.
-With Fagalde tearing up triple-a and Shields struggling, we demoted Shields after the game and called up Fagalde. Fagalde will get every opportunity to show that he should stay.

      -------------------

      Draft Day 2021

The Miners held the first overall pick in each round. With pitching being a hot topic, why not deep dive on the three horsemen of pitching, Giorgio, Howard, and Belanger.

-Rod Belanger is a 6'5 3-pitch righty for the Kentucky Wildcats. The freshman pitcher declared for the draft after an impressive rookie season seeing him post a 3.13 ERA with an astonishing 0.67 WHIP. Belanger's claim to fame is his impressive ability to rarely give up base hits or walk a player, while going late into games. While developing another pitch would be wise for his career as a starter, Belanger possesses a great base to work on for a team searching for an ace.

-Mason Howard is a fire-throwing righty out of Indiana, who played for the Florida Gators. This freshman also declared for the MLB draft during a season which saw him set strikeout records for the Gators. At an average 6'0, and with impressive stamina, Howard projects as someone who will likely walk a lot, but will simply force pitches past the other team with blazing speed. He also has a very effective splitter paired with his 4-seamer that causes headaches for opposing hitters.

-Finally, Kris Giorgio is a 6'2 righty highschooler out of Iowa. Defined as Mr Reliable, Giorgio doesn't really excel at one thing- his whole deal is he's simply great at everything. The only questions behind him are his quality of competition, and he tends to give up base hits a bit more above the average, but as a result he has an extra year of development to undergo in comparison to the other 2 pitchers.

      ....

With the 1st overall pick in the 2021 MLB draft, the Charlotte Miners are extremely proud to select.....

      KRIS GIORGIO

Kris Giorgio officially becomes the first pick in Miners history, as well as the first 1st overall pick out of Iowa. Congrats Giorgio!

      Remainder of picks:
-RF Fred Cochran: Canadian-born College corner fielder with elite plate vision and average everywhere else. Lacking in power, Cochran will likely never hit more than a few home runs at the major league level, and may struggle to hit the ball deep in the field, severely lowering the RBI potential. If anything, a potential lead-off hitter or 3rd/4th outfielder in the future. Speed and arm could allow him to play center.

-SP Ken Franco: Californian righty played in Arizona throughout his college career. While he severely struggles to get the strikeout, he induces popups at a very high rate, as well as rarely gives up strong launch angles. Could develop into a premier innings eater.

-3B Joel Guillen: The oldest player of the draft class, Guillen, the Kentucky born player, enjoyed a career year for the Kentucky Wildcats after getting outshined by other fielders. While the oldest player of the draft, this also translates into being the most MLB ready player by a longshot, as his ETA is next year. Biggest setback as a player is he comparatively is worse at hitting righties, and has less than ideal arm strength.

-3B Rich Cabrera: Dominican-born college sophomore showcased amazing vision and contact through his first 2 seasons at North Carolina U for the Heels. As an inverse to Guillen, his power severely holds back his home run potential, and he struggles with fielding. If fielding does not develop, he may find it difficult to make the MLB.

-C Miguel Delgaudio: Venezuelan catcher projects as an excellent framer and could step into the MLB immediately defensively. Struggles to hit the ball. Framing is his biggest asset.

Sorry if I seem less into this! Very tired.

So restarted my yankee chise after the last update and after a complete lack of offense killing the fun of my last one. I played game 1 on default HOF and won opening day 1-0 after 15 games. Game 2 i upped the power and timing up 1 for me n the cpu and hit 6 home runs enroute to a 15-2 win. Prob gonna mess around with these 2 sliders alittle more.

Nashville Eagles Franchise - April 2020

After April the Eagles are 3 games below .500 at 14-17 in 4th place in the NL Central.

Having one of the worst offenses in the league and a bullpen that has been nothing but a dumpster fire, excluding Setup man Edgar Santana and Closer Keone Kela, are a concern for the Eagles in the early part of the season.

Starting pitching has been pretty decent outside of Mitch Keller who was horrible in 2 starts, having given up 12 ER in 7.2 innings in those 2 starts. He was sent to AAA and we signed free agent 29 yr old Henderson Alvarez to take his place.

We have also called up CF Charlie Tilson from AAA Indianapolis and sent down struggling LF Jason Martin.

Other free agent news in the division.

St. Louis signed free agents 2B Ben Zobrist to 1 yr deal, RF Danny Valencia to a 1 yr deal and RP Arodys Vizcaino to a 4 yr deal.

As far as injuries around the division

The Eagles have lost SP Chris Archer for a couple weeks after straining a pectoral in the second inning in the 4-1 extra inning win over the Cubs on April 29th.

The Cubs have lost LF Kyle Schwarber for 1-2 months with a shoulder tear as well SP Yu Darvish for 1-2 months with a broken arm.

Cardinals SP Adam Wainwright out for 1-2 months with a fractured hand.

Other major injury news around the MLB

Montreal Expos 3B Valdimir Guerrero Jr. out 1-2 months with a fractured hand.

LA Angels 3B Anthony Rendon out 2-3 months with a torn hamstring.

            SEATTLE MARINERS FRANCHISE:

The Seattle Mariners showed up to Spring Training with very few veterans, instead deciding to give the kids a shot to prove themselves at the big league level.

Promising prospects (SP) George Kirby, (1B) Evan White and (LF) Kyle Lewis are coming in with the mindset the jobs are theirs to lose. Of course there are always surprises and disappointments when dealing with prospects so we will see who looks like they belong on the big league roster. Dipoto has said multiple times how excited he is to get the season started and see who fits for the future. And with 4 players in the Top 50 MLB Prospects Rankings the team and fans couldn't be more excited for the future.

              Seattle Mariners @ Minnesota Twins
              Series Result: Twins lead 3-1

This series was looking to be a sweep, but costly errors and a shaky save opportunity by Rogers derailed the 4th game. But overall the series went really went. Our rotation had some excellent run support; Rich Hill ended up getting a complete game shutout and Bailey got his second win in 6 innings of work. Garver, Cruz, and Sanó each had 2 HRs within the series and Rosario had 6 RBIs also. But I’m more concerned with Taylor Rogers, who is 4-7 in save opportunities. He ended up giving up back to back homers in the 9th. Right now he has the highest ERA on the team with 8.10. Hopefully he gets better as the season drags on.

              Team Leaders:

              AVG: .365, Cruz
              Hits: 38, Cruz
              HRs: 7, Cruz
              RBIs: 17, Cruz & Rosario
              Ws: 4, Maeda
              Ks: 38, Berrios & Maeda
              ERA: 1.24, Hill
              WHIP: .52, Romo

Next up we have a 3 game series with the 18-9 Boston Red Sox.
              MSE - DENVER BRONCOS, 47-22 (3-2, playoffs)
              WWML - CAROLINA PANTHERS, 20-7 (0-2, playoffs)
              NSML - DENVER BRONCOS, 27-5 (4-0, playoffs)
              XML - DENVER BRONCOS, 51-17 (6-3, playoffs)

Record: 145-51 (13-7, playoff record, 2-time SB Champ)

                Twins Drop Season Opener
                Kepler goes deep in loss

                March 26, 2020
Oakland--- Max Kepler homered, Jose Berrios exited in the sixth inning with an apparent back injury, and the Minnesota Twins dropped the 2020 season opener to the Oakland Athletics 6-2 on Thursday afternoon.

Berrios pitched well for five and two-thirds, but after a flyout for the second out in the sixth, he left with both hands on his lower back. Berrios allowed six hits and two runs while striking out four. Tyler Duffer took the loss as he was roughed up for three runs over his one-third of an inning.

Kepler’s homer was the first of the season for the Twins, as they look to top their MLB-record total of 307 homeruns from last year. Jorge Polanco delivered a two-out RBI double in the fifth to tie the game at 2-2.

These same two teams will meet again for game two of the series tomorrow night. Kenta Maeda is set to make his Minnesota Twins debut on the mound. First pitch is scheduled for 7:07 PM.

                  Maeda Sparkling in Twins Win
                  Twins hit four ‘bombas’

                  March 27, 2020
Oakland--- Kenta Maeda brought his ‘A” game, and homeruns from Jorge Polanco, Josh Donaldson, Eddie Rosario and Marwin Gonzalez, led the Twins to their first victory of the year; 7-3 over the host Oakland Athletics on Friday night.

Maeda (0-1) allowed just one hit and one run, while striking out eight over his five innings of work. He did issue two walks, which led to the lone Oakland run.

“Kenta was magnificent to watch tonight,” commented Twins manager Rocco Baldelli after the game. “He threw strikes on both sides of the plate. He mixed speeds well using all four of his pitches. That was the true art of pitching tonight.”

Tyler Duffey was roughed up again as he walked three and gave up another run in just two-thirds of an inning. Duffey had a breakout campaign in 2019, but 2020 has not been kind to him yet. Taylor Rogers had to come in to get one out in the ninth for his first save of the season.

At the plate, the Twins were led by the four homeruns. Gonzalez, along with his homer, was four-for-four in the game and also added a double. Rosario drove in three runs, while Polanco added two RBI.

These two teams will square off again tomorrow afternoon with first pitch scheduled for 1:07 PM. Jake Odorizzi is scheduled to make the start for Minnesota.

Cardinals take 2 of 3 from Rockies in Colorado

The Cardinals won two of the three games against the Rockies in Colorado to move their record to 9-10 on the season.

The Cardinals dropped the first game of the series, 5-2, as Roberto Osuna gave up a grand slam in the bottom of the 9th to Grant Lavigne who was pinch hitting for the pitcher spot. That is Osuna's 2nd blown save of the year and gave him his first loss on the season. Michael Wacha started this game and was solid going 6 innings allowing 1 run on 2 hits. He did walk 5 while also striking out 5.

Game 2 was a slugfest, but not the homerun variety as the Cardinals scored 5 runs in the Top of the 9th to come back and beat the Rockies 13-9. The Cardinals had 6 triples, 2 doubles, and a single homerun as they tallied 13 hits. Carlos Martinez had his worst outing of the year on the mound going just 5 innings and surrending 6 runs on 8 hits. But the bullpen pitched well enough to keep the Cardinals in the game, and eventually shut the door on the Rockies. Anthony Rendon had a great day at the dish going 3 for 5 with a double and a triple.

Game 3 saw the Cardinals fall behind 3-0 early, but starter Jack Flaherty settled down and got thru 6 2/3 innings to claim his second win (2-2) of the season. The bullpen again pitched well and Roberto Osuna made up for his game 1 blow up by shutting the door in the 9th. Harrison Bader continued his success at the plate going 2 for 3 with the go-ahead homerun in the 7th.

The Cardinals will now travel to San Diego for a 3 game weekend series with the Padres.

Cardinals place Zack Burdi on 15 Day IL

The Cardinals have placed RHP Zack Burdi on the 15 day IL due to a strained hamstring. Burdi left Wednesday's game against the Rockies with the injury.

RHP Ryan Helsley was recalled from Memphis to fill the open roster spot.

                      destruction

                      Charlotte VS Padres
                      [2] - [0]

Despite the weather outside being grey and dull, the Miners clubhouse was bright and cheery today as the Charlotte baseball club recorded their first ever scoreless game this afternoon. Casey Lawrence was the talk of the town as he went 7 and a third innings without giving up a single run, walking 3, and striking out 6. Paco Rodriguez and Ian Krol also recorded scoreless innings respectively to shut out the 62-81 Padres. A Matt Beaty triple scored Richie Martin from 2nd base in the top of the 3rd for the Miners.

When asked after the game how he felt about his stellar performance, Casey Lawrence said "well y'know I always go out there and give it my all, trying to go deep in games. I had a bit of trouble hitting the zone early but Needz helped me get settled and collect myself."

The Miners are now 45-101 on the season, placing them dead-last in the NL Central, 32 games back of 1st, and 2nd-last in the league, behind the combusting Royals.

                      Game Notes:
-I really like how Matt Beaty plays.
-Our pitching clearly has talent, but struggles to be consistent. I really want to clean this up in free agency, as pitching is so important to having a championship team and attracting free agents.

                      --------------------------
                      End of season review:

                      Pitching: C+
All things considered, it was actually a pretty decent year pitching wise for the Miners. I know this goes against what I said above, but hear me out. The average overall for our pitchers was a 72. Our average ERA was a 4.60. That is far from terrible! I just want it better. We exceeded expectations, hence the grade. Highlights include free agent signings Shoemaker and Desclafani, who each had 2.5 and 3.5 WAR seasons respectively. Expect Shoemaker to be back next year, as he was due to be a free agent. Desclafani was extended for 2 more years at 3.5 million a year.

                      Hitting: D-
The orioles finished with 128 home runs. We also finished with 436 RBI. Why am I scoring us a D-? Our combined batting average was below .240. Hitting clearly needs to get better, but i'm fine with vanity hitting- e.g, high HR's with little impact until we build a prospect pool and start to get some young talent on the team. If I see a free agent I simply can not pass up, however, I will certainly chase them.

                      Overall: D/C-

While our record was definitely terrible, I can't say that we performed how our record displayed us this season. There's a clear base here that should raise some excitement in North Carolina- it's as simple as drafting and signing the right pieces.

Dodgers (18-4) extend their win streak to 11 games sweeping the Pirates (5-17) in 3 games by scores of 2-1, 11-0 and 4-0. Cody Bellinger took over the team lead in home runs (12) going long in all 3 games.

2 runs in the second inning were enough for the Dodgers win in game 1. Alex Wood (3-0, 0.72) continued his outstanding early season performance earning another win, while Kenley Jansen (1.28) earned save number 7 on the season.

Game 2 was an offensive explosion as Bellinger, Max Muncy and Joc Pederson all tallied 3 RBIs apiece. Clayton Kershaw (4-0, 1.21) pitched the first complete game for the Dodgers striking out 9 while only allowing 3 hits.

Another solid pitching performance lead the Dodgers to the sweep in game 3 as Walker Buehler (2-1, 3.00) went 6 innings with 2 hits and 7 strikeouts.

After having Monday off the Dodges will hit the road for 6 games before returning to LA to close out April with 2 games against the Twins (13-10). The first 3 game road series will see the Dodgers traveling to our nations capital to face the Nationals (11-10) who the Dodgers swept in LA a little more than a week ago. Projected pitching matchups are:

                          Julio Urias (3-0, 1.25) v Stephen Strasburg (3-1, 1.47)
                          David Price (2-2, 3.86) v Patrick Corbin (1-1, 5.40)
                          Wood v Anibal Sanchez (0-2, 3.52)

I don't think they are really needed, this game is pretty good to me. I am getting a good variety of games, but I do use Armor and Swords sliders though but he doesn't much at all that isn't on default. You can check his in the slider section.

CHARLOTTE, NORTH CAROLINA- The Miners splurged in free agency this week, addressing concerns in the rotation as they signed SP's Daniel Norris, Michael Wacha, and CP Alex Colome to contracts.

"I'm proud to welcome of Mr Wacha, Mr Norris, and Mr Colome to the Charlotte Miners" said GM McKinney. "We believe that these players will play a core role in pushing the Miners to a playoff spot sooner rather than later."
When asked about what the excitement of signing in North Carolina was, Norris replied "Well, talking to McKinney, you can tell he has big plans for the franchise in the future, and it's always nice to feel as though management has a plan for the team and for you. Secondly, Charlotte is close to my hometown so it makes it easier on me and my family to come to games while still being able to be an active part of my church group." Colome added "The atmosphere at SAS Park is wonderful, and the food is amazing *laughs*. I feel comfortable around the team, almost as if it's like home."

Norris posted a 3.06 ERA last season for the Tigers and Red Sox, striking out 115 while walking 42. In the past 2 years his ERA has never been above 3.65, and has been worth 3 WAR in each season. Wacha appeared in 69 games for the Mets as a long reliever, posting a 4 ERA combined in both seasons. Wacha, 30, is expected to get looks as a starter rather than a long reliever. Colome, 33, has been lights out for the White Sox the past 2 seasons in the closing role, posting sub-3 ERA while averaging 10 strikes per 9.

Contracts for the pitchers are reported to look as such: Norris for 3 years at 5.4 million a season. Wacha for 1 year at 4.7 million. Colome for 1 year at 2.6 million.

Rumors suggest that GM McKinney isn't done in the free agent market, as it's been reported that he's been in contact with the teams of shortstops Didi Gregorious and Freddy Galvis as well as tumultuous Mets outfielder Michael Conforto. Conforto reportedly enjoys the idea of playing in North Carolina, and feels as though he could ascend to stardom in the Tar Heel State.
