Cardinals acquire Gio Urshela from Twins

The Cardinals have acquired 30 year old IF Gio Urshela from the Twins in exchange for prospects.

    Cardinals Get:

    IF - Gio Urshela

    Twins Get:

    SP - Ljay Newsome
    C - Pedro Pages

The Cardinals were already concerned about the lack of offensive production from the SS position and with the significant injury to Paul DeJong the other day, the need to make a move grew more urgent. Urshela is hitting .268 with 8 homeruns and 33 RBI's. The Cardinals are hopeful that his bat will spark a lineup that has power surges but is far too inconsistent.

The Twins are getting a pair of prospects that will add depth to the organization. Ljay Newsome is 25 years old and was 8-1 at Memphis this year with a 2.92 ERA and WHIP just over 1.

Pedro Pages is 23 year old catcher who spent a majority of the season at single A although he made a brief appearance at Springfield going 1 for 3 in his lone game.

Lets hope this deal works out for the Cards.

          Rays(27-17) sweep Tigers(24-21), Offense Struggles

When you are outscored 14-7 in a series, you cannot expect great results. Unfortunately, that happened to the Tigers in St. Pete. In a series where the starting pitching maybe had their best series of the month, the bats just could not figure out how to get working. Plenty of hard hit outs, and good defensive plays, but that's how the cookie crumbles sometimes. Without the 3 in the T9 of game three, the Tigers would have scored 4 all series. That has clearly got to change in order for them to stay atop the division, as their lead over CWS has now dwindled to 1.0 game. That was a tough 17 day stretch of only games, and they will now get an off/travel day as they head to Cleveland to face the Guardians(18-25) for three, to play games 4-6 of this 9 game road trip.

They will be quite familiar with them, as they are part of the 2/3 next series. These are going to be pivotal, as the Tigers need to get back on track, especially against a divisional opponent.

            2022 Arizona Diamondbacks 05/16-05/18

            Overall Record:30-14 (1st NL West)

D-Backs are the first to thirty after 2-1 series victory over the Dodgers

The Arizona Diamondbacks are the first major league team to thirty wins. The next closest teams are the New York Yankees and Los Angeles Angels who both have twenty-eight wins. The thirty wins as of May 18th have the D-Backs just twenty-two games shy of their fifty-two wins of the entire 2021 campaign. Who knows how long this run can last but so far, the Diamondbacks are the talk of the league.

This series was already the third between LA and Arizona in the 2022 season. In the three series, Arizona holds a 6-3 advantage over not only the pre-season division favorites but the odds on favorite to win the world series this season.

Part of the Dodgers struggles can be contributed to the loss of Clayton Kershaw who recently went out with a Torn Labrum and is expected to miss the remainder of the season.

This series was competitive throughout. The series started with a pitchers duel between Madison Bumgarner and Walker Buehler. Both pitchers would pitch 6+ innings and both teams had just one run as the two exited the game. The bullpen would keep the game tied until the game went into extras.

In the top of the 10th inning, Arizona seemingly had the game wrapped up, scoring three to include a two run homerun by Carson Kelly. That still proved to not be enough as the Dodgers also erupted in the extra frame with several hits back to back, ending with a Max Muncy single to walk it off.

Game two saw Arizona struggle early on but seven consecutive hits in the sixth inning saw them take the lead. A lead that would carry through to the end of the game with Arizona winning 9-5.

Game three saw Arizona get their payback with four runs in the ninth inning to tarnish a Blake Treinen saves record that was a perfect 15-15 before hand.

The Diamondbacks will travel to Chicago to take on the Cubs (21-21) in a four game series.

            Game Results
            Game 1
            Los Angeles-5
            Arizona-4

            Game 2
            Arizona-9
            Los Angeles-5

            Game 3
            Arizona-6
            Los Angeles-4

**Josh Rojas (ARZ) and Mookie Betts (LAD) were injured in the first game of this series. Rojas has a pulled hamstring is expected to miss 1-2 weeks. Wilmer Difo was recalled from Reno and has stepped into the lineup as the starting 3B against RHP. Betts has a bruised hand and is expected to miss between 1-6 games. He did not play the rest of the series but was not placed on the IL.

Tigers Designate Jarrod Dyson for Assignment

Surprisingly, it has taken this long for Dyson to be sent off of the 26 man roster up in Michigan. He has struggled all year, sitting under .200, and him striking out to end Game 1 in Cleveland was the final straw. They now have 7 days to make a move with him.

In a corresponding move, they purchased John Valente's contract from Toledo, as he has been hitting just a hair under .300 so far this season in Triple A. He will be a versatile player as he can play 2B, 3B, as well as the outfield. And it will be good for the Tigers as Riley Greene is out for a few days with a pulled hamstring, so they will be short a body out in lineup.

Cardinals avoid sweep against Reds by winning Sunday

The Cardinals (53-46) avoided the sweep by the Reds by winning Sunday to conclude the first half of the season. The Cardinals will go to the All-Star Break trailing the Brewers by 1/2 game.

The Cardinals lost Friday and Saturday after scoring just one run in each of those games. On Sunday, the offense wasn't much better but they did put up 4 runs to help propel Miles Mikolas to his 7th win of the year.

The break comes at a good time for certain players like Tommy Edman and Dylan Carlson who had hit big slumps in the past 10 games. Also, Yadier Molina will be activated from IL over the break. Its expected that Ali Sanchez will be optioned back to Memphis.

The Cardinals will open the 2nd half of the season with the same team they ended the first, the Reds for a 3 game weekend series in Cincinnati.

Nolan Gorman and Jordan Walker invited to Futures Game

The Cardinals organization will send two of its own to Sunday's Futures Game.

3B Nolan Gorman and 3B Jordan Walker have been invited to play in the 2022 Futures Game in Los Angeles as part of the All-Star Festivities.

Nolan Gorman is having an exceptional year at Memphis and is on the cusp of cracking the big league roster. The organization still prefers consistent at-bats versus just sitting on the bench as a role player for top level talent that is nearly ready.

Jordan Walker has bounced from Single A to Double A this year, but is getting comfortable as the everyday DH at Springfield. Its likely that Walker is a few years away from the big leagues, but as he gets more comfortable and develops his glove, his path to promotion could certainly be escalated.

Almost at the end of my year 1 regular season with the Padres having already clinched a post season birth with a current record of 103-52.

Fernando Tatis Jr is easily the MVP and having MONSTER season hitting .327 with 52 HR and 148 RBI! Triple clown leader.

Another man having an incredible year is Luke Voit who has 45 HRS and 123 RBI. The man i cannot get going in the power department is Manny Machado who only has 26 HR and 93 RBI while hitting .270.

I recently added Shogo Akiyama to the team who we signed on a minor league deal IRL and is hitting .429 in 14 ABS with 3 SBs.

                      Pitching wise:
Darvish 15-5, 3.18 ERA. Despite his record he has gone down drastically due to age and is now a 77.
                      Musgrove 14-10, 3.34 ERA
                      Manaea 12-6, 3.12 ERA
                      Snell 14-4, 3.03 ERA
                      Clevinger 11-4, 2.86 ERA

                      Martinez 10-1, 1.68 ERA

Taylor Rogers has 47 saves and a 3.70 ERA in 58.1 IP.

National League defeats American League 3-2

The National League defeated the American League 3-2 Tuesday night at Dodger Stadium in Los Angeles.

The AL got the scoring started when Vlad Guerrero Jr hit a solo homerun in the 2nd off of Brandon Woodruff. The NL would get two runs in the 3rd off of Shane Bieber with a solo shot by Ozzie Albies and then Ronald Acuna drove in a run with a RBI single. The NL would tack on another in the 8th when Ke'Bryan Hayes delivered a sac fly to make it 3-1.

Drew Pomeranz struggled in the 9th giving up a run and having 2 on with one out when the NL turned the ball to Lucas Sims. Sims would strike out Yandy Diaz and get Yordan Alvarez to fly out to end the game.

Paul Goldschmidt was the lone representative from the Cardinals.

Now the regular season gets started up again on Friday for everyone but the Dodgers and Giants who play Thursday.

Gaints won 3-1 with The Padres relievers struggling for what feels like a daily occurrence. Homeruns by Brandon Crawford and Curt Casali made up the 3 runs. Hosmer went deep for The Friars lone run.

Series: Giants sweep The Padres who fall 7.5 back of the division leading Colorado Rockies. If the relievers don't figure it out soon, San Diego will be on an early vacation before Tatis can even make it back from the I.L to begin his season.

Game 48 Milwaukee Brewers (19-28) @ San Diego Padres (20-27)
                          Freddy Peralta vs Blake Snell
Let the bell ring as San Diego take the 1-0 win over The Brewers. A homerun in the 1st by Cronenworth was the only hit San Diego got and it was all they needed as Blake Snell and the crew were dealing. A combined 8 strikeouts on only 87 pitches.
                          W: Blake Snell 5.2 INN, 2 H, 5 K, 1 BB

Game 51: Pitsburgh Pirates (23-27) @ San Diego Padres (23-27)
                          Zach Thompson vs Yu Darvish
Darvish gets the win 3-2 with 7 strikeouts and Taylor Rogers closes it out to get save number 16. Cronenworth and Nola send out free souvenirs for the home faithful.

                          L: Zach Thompson 5 Inn, 4 H, 6 K, 1 BB, 3 ER
Series: San Diego get their 2nd straight sweep and 6th straight win. They head to St, Louis for a three game series begginging Memorial Day.

Blue Jays are 34-20 after the first two months of the season, 3.5 games ahead of the Rays and 4 up on the Yankees.

I wound up replaying a 4-game series in Anaheim; things were way off from a performance standpoint after the PS5 system update and 4th patch, and it took me a few days to get on here to discover what the workarounds were (turning VRR and 120hz off). Things have been much better since then and I'm back enjoying the game as it was.

                                ROCKIES RULE 5 DRAFT FRANCHISE

With the season under way and about a month into the season, we started simming and quick managing most the games… things are UGLY.

It is May the 10th and we are sitting at a dismal 9-27. Our highest hitter is Jake Bauers, whose raking an cool .265. Scott Kingery, our everyday SS, is very impressive…. He’s batting .100 with over 130 ABs.

Some other “bright” spots (take it for what it’s worth)
Johan Mieses is hitting .248 with 6 HRs and 12 RBIs
                                ……
Crickets on the rest of the offense….

                                Pitching….

Our “Ace” Alex Young has an ERA north of 7…
Kyle Cody is arguably our best starter with a 3.22 ERA and a 2-2 record.
JC Ramirez has been our long reliever but now is a 5 starter since he’s had a 1.46 ERA through 50 innings pitched.
Deolis Guerra has been one of our best relievers - 1.57 ERA in 18 appearances.
Chris Devenski is 7/9 on saves/save opps.

Looking ahead…. I think we’re gonna focus on any potential guys we have may be ready to come up from the minors (meaning we’d have to release guys on our active roster) but it can’t get worse.

Looking to strike gold in the draft and then trying to get through the end of the season without having the doors closed on the franchise. I think I solidified your rules for off season signings/trades (offseason and in season).

•FA signings: sign any player, potential, any number of players, as long as it’s an 79 or under overall(avoids from loading up in FA)
•trades: in season, players having success (Positive WAR) can be placees on the trade block and/or traded as long as the player(s) I get back are one potential lower than what I’m giving up (if I trade an A pot. player, the return piece has to be a B pot. or lower)
Off-season: any trades allowed as long as I follow the above rule.

And any slots I have open on my 26 man will be filled in the rule 5 last last season.
