    ROCKIES RULE 5 FRANCHISE

This season is under way and our first true year may be a lonnnnng struggle. Out of the gates, our offense is struggling, seems like our pitching loves to give up runs and the only thing colder than our team is the Colorado weather….

    Through our first 5 series… here’s where we’re at.

    5-11

    Vs D-Backs
    L 2-10
    L 4-5
    W 1-0
    L 1-3

    Vs SF
    L 2-8
    W 3-1
    L 3-6

    @ D-Backs
    L 0-1
    W 7-4
    L 2-7

    @KC
    W 3-1
    L 2-4

    Vs Cubs
    L 2-3
    W 5-2
    L 1-2
    L 0-6

    Team Rankings
    Avg: .199 - 29th
    Runs: 38 - 30th
    Hits: 106 - 29th
    HR: 9 -30th

    ERA: 3.55 -8th
    RA: 63 - T-12th
    Walks Allowed: 53 - T-18th

We ended up signing Odubel Herrera a few games into the season to give us a little more solidarity in the outfield. We released Franchy Cordero. He was struggling and just didn’t fit the team.

    Other notes:
•Through 16 games, Scott Kingery is hitting below .100 - he has been moved to the bottom of the lineup.
•Johan Mieses leads the team with Average (.273) and home runs (3)
•Jake Bauers leads the team in OPS (.814) and RBI (8)

•Ryan Jensen is leading our starting pitching with ERA of .1.42 and a WHIP of .95 - also has a high of 19 SO through 19IP
•Chris Devenski was slotted to the Closer after Jonathon Holder blew 2 saves within the first 4 games of the season.

Coming up: We have the Nats at home for 3 games, go to LA for 3 and then go to San Fran for 3. If we can come out of these next 9 games with 5 wins, it would be an absolute miracle in my eyes.

Some big changes will be needed with this club. Not sure if we’re going to end up making some deals in the future or if we’re going to bring some guys up, which would mean having to release guys on our active roster because of them all being Rule 5 picks. I guess we’ll have to see what is to come! Having a lot of fun so far with this project.

Mariners lose SP Chris Flexen for 1-2 months with a separated shoulder

During the 2nd inning of the last game of series vs Texas, Flexen popped his shoulder out of socket on a pitch. Unfortunate for him as he thus far has posted a 1-1 start with a superb 1.37era in 11ip with 14k and 3bb.

Seattle declined to bring back Justus Sheffield and went a new route calling up Matt Brash. There were talks of placing Margevicius in Flexen's rotation spot but manager feels Brash would be best suited to do that while Margevicius continues his role out of the bullpen where the extra LHP is needed anyway.

Brash who has struggled in the minors, posting a 0-2 record 10.64era in 11ip hopes the change of scenery and to the big leagues can help get his season going in the right direction. And who knows, maybe he will do well enough to make it difficult to option him back when Flexen returns.

        All Star Break - 2022

The All-Star break comes at a great time with the team playing 17 straight days and 23 of the last 24. A 4 game losing streak pushed us back under .500 at 47-50. 3rd in the Central and 10.5 games back of the 1st place White Sox. Our 4 game losing streak is tied for the longest of the season. The Los Angeles Dodgers have been nearly unstoppable so far. 70-26 and on pace for an MLB record 118 wins (3rd best win% of all time).

The offense is still being carried by Andrew Benintendi who looks to be putting together the best season of his career. Hitting .311/.376/.555 with a career-high 23 HR already to go along with 75 RBI. His HRs and RBIs lead the team as well as his 118 hits. Bobby Witt Jr. is the team leader in runs with 61. His bat has improved quite a bit since April now hitting .246/.320/.452 with 14 HR. He leads the AL Rookie of The Year race over Spencer Torkelson hitting .253/.338/.394 with 11 HR and Julio Rodriguez hitting .248/.316/.391 with 8 HR. Whit Merrifield went down with a broken forearm on May 9th and missed 49 games. We decided to bring up Vinnie Pasquantino to take his spot. Overall it hasn't gone great for him but he has had some hot streaks. Hitting .221/287/.332 with 5 HR in 59 games. He was up over .250 coming into the month. Carlos Santana has been very streaky so far. And overall better than I was expecting. He was hitting .204 at the end of April. Got up to .245 at the end of May. Back down to .230 in June and now up to .252 and has the 2nd highest OPS on the team at .833. The team is hitting .266/.333/.434 putting us 3rd, 10th, and 7th in the league. We are 17th in HR with 113, lead the league in hits with 926, and Stolen bases with 103. 2nd with 183 Doubles and tied for 18 with 37 Triples.

        Offensive Stats
        Spoiler

The starting pitching has been very much not good since April. The 5 guys in the rotation at the moment have combined for a 4.95 ERA. Brady Singer was hit in the head with a ball and suffered head fractures on June 24th. He was leading the team in ERA at 3.82 and WHIP at 1.18. We sent Kris Bubic down to AAA on June 22nd. He had been moved to the pen and had a 6.50 ERA. Austin Cox was called up to replace him. He had a 3.97 ERA in 68 IP for Omaha. He made 3 starts in the majors before being sent back down. He managed to give up 15 runs in just 8.1 IP for a 16.20 ERA. Kris Bubic was called back up to replace him. He has made 2 starts since then giving up 5 runs in 4.1 IP and then 1 run over 6 innings in a loss.

Things are going much better for the guys out in the bullpen. While not as good as they were in April they have put up a 3.18 ERA over 305 IP. Josh Staumont has taken over as the closer. He has a 0.63 ERA and 0.93 WHIP over 43 IP. Taylor Clarke Amir Garrett and Dylan Coleman all have ERAs under 3. While Joel Payamps and Jake Brents are sitting in the mid 4s. Scott Barlow was taken out of the closers role on May 23rd after blowing a save against the Diamondbacks. He had an ERA of 6.98 at the time. He has been much better since getting his ERA down to 4.37 now.

Overall we are 23rd in ERA at 4.40. Tied with the Mariners for last in Shutouts with only 2. Tied for 18th with 122 HR allowed. 22nd in Walks Allowed with 358 and Tied for 25th in Strikeouts with 647.

I let the CPU draft for me and I kind of wish I didn't. 6 of the 7 picks went on pitchers with 4 of them being starters. Our 6th pick Alfonso Rios is the most major league ready. Throws a 4 seam, Slurve, Curve, and Cutter. Mid 90's on his fastball and has above average movement on his breaking balls. Won't walk a lot of guys but won't miss many bats at the same time. His floor is very high but his ceiling isn't much higher. Should have no problem being a 4th or a 5th on a good team. I'm also going to be changing the ages of all the draft picks. The first 30 picks over the last 3 years have an AVG age of 19.5. In-game it's pretty close at 20.1 but there were 6, 22-year-olds compared to only 1 overall the last 3 years IRL and 7, 18-year-olds compared to 13.6 on average IRL. Its not a big difference this year but in the future when there are players 23 and older being drafted it should help a lot. It should also end up with some players being good pretty young where a 22-year-old 73 overall might get changed to 18.

We open the 2nd half at home against the Rays before the Angels come to town. We then head to New York to end the month against the Yankees. We are 5.5 games back of a Wild Card spot. Carlos Santana and Whit Merrifield could be on the move depending on how the next week goes. Pratto and Melendez are still struggling a bit down in AAA but I want to get them some playing time in the majors so we need to clear a little room.

Cardinals take series against the Cubs

The Cardinals (42-37) took 2 games of a 3 game series with the rival Cubs over the weekend in St.Louis. The Cardinals maintain a 1.5 game lead over the Brewers in the NL Central.

The Cardinals won both Friday night (6-2) and Saturday night (10-4) but were unable to complete the sweep losing Sunday's finale 5-1.

Paul Goldschmidt got out of his slump in this series collecting 7 hits over the series with 3 homeruns, a double and knocking in 8 RBI's. Jordan Hicks maintained his consecutive inning streak of perfection which is up to 4 innings now. Hicks pitched 2 innings this series earning 5 strikeouts on the 6 hitters faced.

The Cardinals will now welcome in the Marlins before taking an off day Thursday to travel to Philadelphia for a 3 game weekend series against the Phillies to open the month of July.

Cardinals drop series to Marlins to close out month of June

The Cardinals (43-39) dropped a 3 game series to the Marlins to close out the month of June. The Cardinals find themselves now 1/2 game behind the Brewers in the NL Central.

The Cards avoided the sweep by winning Wednesday but Monday and Tuesday were nothing short of disappointing. The Cardinals recorded only 1 run on 4 total hits in the first two games. Thankfully on Wednesday they snapped their slump and put up 11 runs on 14 hits.

The Cardinals will be off Thursday as they travel to Philadelphia for a 3 game weekend series with the Phillies to begin the month of July.

Cardinals sweep Phillies to start month of July

The Cardinals (46-39) swept the Phillies in a 3 game series in Philadelphia over the weekend. The sweep puts the Cardinals up 2 games on the Brewers in the NL Central Division.

With just 2 weeks until the All-Star Break and less than 4 weeks until the trade deadline, the Cardinals may have played their most impressive series of the season. The Cardinals outscored the Phillies 23-3 over the series and the pitching staff recorded 34 strikeouts combined over the 3 game set.

Tyler O'Neill may have finally busted his slump recording 10 hits this series including 3 homeruns, 2 doubles and a triple. Dakota Hudson earned his 3rd win (3-9) by going 8 innings allowing 1 run on 2 hits and striking out 12.

The Cardinals will get no rest as they travel to Atlanta to face the defending World Series Champion Braves in a 4 game series.

I am using 30 team control but let the cpu trade on their own. Turned my trade slider down while doing some test sims and forgot about it so there have only been 4 so far. All of them were 1 for 1.

Just curious most people like mkyself do 30 team control to own the trades for all teams. What do you do it for if you let them trade?

Mainly so I can fix things if they end up broken. I will reverse a trade if I notice it's really bad. A couple of years ago I did some tests and found that setting everyone to not scout made the draft a little better. I would also add any highly rated free agents to teams that went unsigned. Setting each team sponsors so they have more money based on market size. Rule 5 draft has been broken in the past where high potential guys weren't being added to the 40 man so with 30 team control I can either add them myself or just turn the drafting off entirely for the rule 5. Cant remember for sure if you can set injuries for other teams without 30 team control but theres another reason if you cant.

I do it simply so I can monitor the trades, and "fix" anything that isn't realistic.

For instance, lets say the Yankees are in first place in their division. If the game made them trade away good players for prospects, as a rebuilding team would do, then I can go in and fix it.

I will also occasionally make a couple realistic trades for contending teams that have a glaring need. Adds a little more realism to my franchise.

Cardinals activate Nolan Arenado for IL, DFA Albert Pujols

The Cardinals have activated 3B Nolan Arenado off the 60 Day IL. Arenado has been there since April when he tore his calf.

Arenado returns to a lineup that has been struggling, so hopefully his bat back in the middle of the order will spark some life into the bats.

In a corresponding move, it appears the reunion between Pujols and the Cards has come to an end. The Cardinals DFA'd the 42 year old to make room on the roster. Pujols started with promise, but has gone 0 for his last 16 and with traditional DH rules, is just hinders a managers roster moving ability.

Its likely that Pujols will go unclaimed once placed on waivers and will retire from the game.
I can't shave with my eyes closed, meaning each day I have to look at myself in the mirror and respect who I see.

I dont micromanage the other teams. I just make sure they're all trying to build a good team and also keep other teams from making dumb trades. Like if the pirates need a good 2B and there is one sitting there in FA, I'll sign him to their team.

Also I'll check their lineups and pitching rotation every so often and make sure they look right.

Detroit(23-16) Survives 4 Game Series vs Struggling A's(12-27), Win 3/4
The Tigers pitching, once again looked good, giving up at most 5 runs in a game, which was the loss. But the bats would start off hot and hit timingly often, which led to the three wins. Not one game did the bats get too hot, but they were consistent and able to get the series victory on Thursday. Cabrera, Baez, Baddoo, and Candelario have all hit a lull, but that has led to the emergences of Torkelson, Grossman, and Willi Castro as catalysts in this offense, which is currently scuffling at the moment. They finish their first season series of the year, besting the A's 6-1 this season, outscoring them 32-20.

The Tigers now welcome Baltimore to town for a weekend 3 game series. Surprisingly, the Orioles are also over .500 coming in, at 20-18. Perhaps both of these teams are ahead of where many thought they would be in their rebuild.
