Cardinals targeting shortstop as need at trade deadline

With the trade deadline still 3 weeks away, the Cardinals are putting together a list of needs to help propel them into October and postseason baseball.

Probably the biggest need at this point is the SS position and is one the Cardinals are discussing with other teams. Paul DeJong has been the everyday SS for much of the year, but his lackluster plate production is leading the Cardinals to seek outside help. Edmundo Sosa and Anderson Tejeda are other options, but Sosa is currently in Memphis due to his own struggles and Tejeda has bounced back and forth.

Two names that continue to circulate the "rumors" is Elvis Andrus of Oakland and Gio Urshela of Minnesota. Both teams are "out" of the playoff hunt in the American League and could look to deal to acquire talent for a reload/rebuild. Both come with unique pros and cons in fitting with the Cards active roster and lineup, so the front office is going to continue to due their due diligence in making any trade.

Starting pitching is another area the Cardinals may pursue in the trade market, although their staff has been really good, but TJ Zeuch and Dakota Hudson have each had their good and bad moments and the inconsistency is concerning, especially if an injury happens to the other 3. There doesn't seem to be an arm in waits of Memphis that is ready to take the ball every 5th day in St.Louis although Jake Woodford is close.

The Cardinals haven't been linked to any arms thus far as their primary focus is fixing their issue at shortstop and their offensive production.
I can't shave with my eyes closed, meaning each day I have to look at myself in the mirror and respect who I see.

I miss the old days of Operation Sports :(

Hill Placed on 10 Day IL
Derek Hill Left the Fourth Inning of Saturday's game against the Orioles with a pulled hamstring diving back to 1st on a pickoff. He will miss at least 10 days, with the possibility of missing up to two weeks. In a corresponding move, highly touted prospect Riley Greene has been called up from Toledo to make his Major League Debut on the Sunday Finale versus the Orioles. He had previously been delayed by the good hitting outfield, but this now presents him with a "tryout" of sorts to try and stay on the big league club.

Tigers(24-18) Bats Struggle, lose 2/3 at home versus Baltimore(22-19).

What a dissapointment, with the White Sox now hot on Detroit's heels, they drop 2/3 to an overachieving Orioles team. The Bats just couldn't get it done, even when having 11 hits in game three was not enough to get it done. Also the Orioles had 6 first inning runs all series, and Detroit often had to play catch up.

They now head to Tampa, looking to right their wrongs at the plates and get hot. Riley Greene will now make his debut, as the Tigers look to have him break out in a big way, as he was jet lagged coming into the O's finale game.

For the scouting vs no scouting, the difference was very minor. Enough that you probably wouldnt notice any differences if you werent looking for them. And I haven't tested since then to see if they made any changes.

The Cardinals have activated 3B Nolan Arenado off the 60 Day IL. Arenado has been there since April when he tore his calf.

Arenado returns to a lineup that has been struggling, so hopefully his bat back in the middle of the order will spark some life into the bats.

In a corresponding move, it appears the reunion between Pujols and the Cards has come to an end. The Cardinals DFA'd the 42 year old to make room on the roster. Pujols started with promise, but has gone 0 for his last 16 and with traditional DH rules, is just hinders a managers roster moving ability.

Its likely that Pujols will go unclaimed once placed on waivers and will retire from the game.

Cardinals drop 3 of 4 games to Braves in Atlanta

The Cardinals (47-42) dropped 3 games of a 4 game series with the Braves in Atlanta. The Cardinals now trail the Brewers by a game in the NL Central Division.

The Braves lineup just rocked the Cards pitching staff except for Wednesday when T.J Zeuch, who has been a surprise this year, pitched a 3 hit 1 run ball game over 8 innings.

Other than that, nothing in this series was a positive except that it eventually ended.

The Cardinals will go home and welcome the Phillies to town for a weird 4 game weekend series that includes a Monday afternoon game.

.....was chugging along in my Franchise qith the Padres. Had gotten to the 3rd week in June playing 1 game from every series and my power went out. Wasn't saving regularly and lost a month and a half worth of content. Struggling to play now because want everything the exact same. Contemplating just restarting today with a different team, especially with rosters updating today. So dissapointed. Live and learn to save I suppose or set it to auto save.
An Angels save sounds fun, idk. I was so invested this year for the first time since MLB 19.
I could play the 6 weeks over, start with Ohtani and the Angels or maybe another team that has playoff ambitions but maybe not an immediate WS title.
Ugh so frustrating, thanks for letting me vent.

                            2022 Arizona Diamondbacks 05/13-05/15

                            Overall Record:28-13 (1st NL West)

Diamondbacks win series Vs. Cubs 2-1

It could have been another sweep but Chicago was able to win the first game of the series on a ninth inning inside the park home run by Nico Hoerner. The play was made thanks to a poorly played ball by Arizona's right fielder, Pavin Smith. Hoerner hit a sinking line drive to mid-shallow right field and Smith aggressively charged the ball just for it to land just as he got to it, he was unable to pull it in and it went to the wall. With no backup, Smith had to truck it to the wall and by the time the ball reached home plate, it was too late.

Game two saw Mark Melancon blow his first save of the season but Christian Walker was able to walk it off in the bottom of the ninth with a solo homerun.

Game three was all about Zac Gallen who pitched 7.1 strong innings allowing just 4 hits while striking out eight Chicago Batters. Melancon would redeem himself with his sixteenth save of the young season and Arizona would win yet another series.

The Diamondbacks will now start a road trip with three games against the Dodgers (22-18, 3rd NL West).

Cardinals win 3 of 4 against Phillies in St.Louis

The Cardinals (50-43) took 3 games of a 4 game series with the Phillies in St.Louis. The Cardinals are a 1/2 game ahead of the Brewers in the NL Central Division.

The Cardinals dropped the series opener on Friday night but came back to win Saturday, Sunday, and the odd Monday series finale.

Dakota Hudson lost Friday's opener as he just labored on the mound. He only gave up 4 runs, but it was against 10 hits, 3 walks and only 4 strikeouts. The offense just didn't have anything to offer putting up just 1 run on 4 hits in the game.

Saturday saw Jack Flaherty get his first win in his last 6 starts as he's now 9-4 on the season. Flaherty would pitch a 3 hit complete game in the Cards 4-1 victory. Tyler O'Neill's grand slam in the 1st inning held up the entire way thanks to Flaherty who struck out 9 in the game.

Sunday was an afternoon game and Adam Wainwright was masterful. Waino went 8 innings giving up 1 run on 5 hits and fanning a season high 11. Wainwright was pulled at 121 pitches. The Cardinals offense made sure there was no doubt in this game winning 8-1 behind Dylan Carlson's 4 for 4 day.

Monday was T.J Zeuch and again he surprised going 8 innings allowing no runs on 3 hits and striking out 5. The game would go 11 1/2 innings before a run was scored when Ali Sanchez delivered a walk off single scoring Paul DeJong for the 1-0 win.

The Cardinals welcome the Dodgers to town for a 3 game mid-week series before facing the Reds at home this weekend to conclude the 1st half of the season.

                                Cardinals take series against Dodgers

The Cardinals (52-44) took 2 out of 3 games against the Dodgers in St.Louis. The Cardinals now are tied with the Brewers atop the NL Central Division.

The Cardinals lost the series opener with Miles Mikolas on the mound thanks to the bullpen blowing up late after the Cardinals took a 2-1 lead thanks to a Paul Goldschmidt two run bomb. The bullpen gave up 4 runs in the 8th and 3 in the 9th as the Cards fell 8-3.

Wednesday was another bullpen blowup after Dakota Hudson pitched well. Jordan Hicks walked the bases loaded in the 8th with Cards up 4-2 and all three runs would score to make it 5-4. But the Cards had magic as Tyler O'Neill woudl drive home the tying run in the bottom of the 8th and Corey Dickerson would provide the walkoff single in the 9th.

On Thursday Jack Flaherty struggled thru 5 innings and was down 3-0 when he left. Tbe bats came to life again when Tyler O'Neill hit a grand slam in the 7th to put the Cards up 4-3. They would add one more in the 8th for the 5-3 win.

The Cardinals will welcome the Reds to town for a 3 game weekend series as the first half of the season comes to a close.

Cardinals place Paul DeJong on IL with fractured hand

The Cardinals have placed SS Paul DeJong on the 10 Day IL with a fractured hand. DeJong is expected to miss anywhere from 6-8 weeks.

DeJong was struggling this year hitting just .186 with 8 homeruns and 23 RBI's.

No corresponding move has been made.
