We've hit September 2022 in my Braves MLB 21 franchise. Time for the playoff races to heat up.
We're 87-41 with a 12-game lead over the Mets. The top of the lineup of Acuna, Albies, Freeman and Ozuna has been carrying us. I bragged about Austin Riley just before the All-Star break, but a stat popped up a couple of games ago that he was hitting .119 for August. He's clearly pressing, so we gave him a few days off to try to clear his head. Joc Pederson is also really scuffling. We need those two to heat up as the weather cools off.
Real-life events have me ready to move on from Ozuna, but he's been my hottest hitter. It doesn't make much sense in the confines of my franchise to dump him at this point, or even in the offseason. Going to have to figure out what to do there.
We're leaning toward bringing up Roman Quinn and Touki Toussaint as our September call-ups. We'll probably shuffle some guys back and forth between Gwinnett and Atlanta throughout the month. Michael Harris and Jared Shuster will likely get promoted to Triple A.
Playoff Races
The Braves and Padres likely have the top two seeds in the NL. The Padres have an 8.5-game lead over the Dodgers in the West. The Cardinals hold a 3-game lead over the Cubs with the Brewers 4.5 back in the Central. The Dodgers and Mets hold the two wild-card spots with the Nationals 4 back.
In the AL, the White Sox are running away with the Central and the top seed. The Astros have a commanding lead in the West and will likely be the No. 3 seed. The Yankees and Rays are battling for the East and the second seed. One of those two teams likely gets a wild-card spot with a free-for-all for the other spot. The Twins currently hold that spot, but the Blue Jays, Royals, Angels and even the red-hot A's are in contention. Oakland has won seven straight.
Award Winners
Right now, Bryce Harper and Yordan Alvarez are the front runners for each league's MVP. Jacob deGrom and Lucas Giolito are the favorites for the Cy Young.
