Game two Tylor Megill got shelled for 8 runs in 1.1 innings and the Mets never had a chance, the ended up taking on some garbage time runs and losing 13-8. After the game Drew Smith was sent to AAA Syracuse and Austin Adams was recalled as a fresh arm was needed after needing 7.2 innings from the bullpen. Game three the Mets took a 3-0 in to the 7th but Adam Ottavino coughed up the lead. The Mets were able to bounce back with two runs in the 8th and Edwin Diaz closed the game out for his 4th save of the year. This was our first win without a HR thanks to some aggressive baserunning.

The biggest surprise so far has been Harrison Bader. I've faced five righties and he has contact/power ratings of 46/43 against righties but he's hitting .500 so far. Something about his stance makes it easy for me to hit.

I don't know if this is a bug or some quirky stat scenario I never thought of, but Starling Marte somehow has a higher batting average than OBP.

    Not a bug.

If you haven't walked much at all and have more sacrifice hits or fly balls than walks this will happen.

Sacrifices don't hurt you batting average but they do hurt your on base percentage.

That makes sense, when I took the screenshot I was still in the portion of dynamic difficulty where nearly every pitch was a strike so I wasn't drawing walks.

The Mets continue to stay red hot with a sweep of the Reds and taking the first of four in Atlanta to get off to a 9-1 start. I lost Starling Marte to the IL with a hand injury but DJ Stewart is providing so much power in his absence that Marte may end up in a platoon role when he returns. Dynamic difficulty finally hit All Star+ which is where I usually like to be so these first ten games have more or less been spring training for me and now the real season begins. Next game is a marquee matchup with Kodai Senga and Spencer Strider facing off.

          Then it would make sense.

If you haven't walked and have a sacrifice then his obp would be lower.

Cardinals Lose Series Against Brewers in Milwaukee

The Cardinals (17-24) dropped 3 games of a 4 game series against the Brewers in a pivotal early season series for the Cardinals. The Cardinals now find themselves 8 games out of first place.

The only positive of this series was rookie Cooper Hjerpe bouncing back from a horrendous debut, by earning the win after going 5 innings, giving up 4 runs.

Other than that, it was business as usual for this Cardinals squad. Pitching falters at some point in the game, and if they don't then the offense is dormant.

Cardinals head west now to face the Angels in a 3 game series. The Angels lead the AL West and have won 9 straight games.
I can't shave with my eyes closed, meaning each day I have to look at myself in the mirror and respect who I see.

I miss the old days of Operation Sports :(

Rays lose their opener to the Blue Jays 3-2.

I will say this. I am a real life Rays fan (we do exist). From a purely baseball perspective, losing Wander hurt. His actions aside from that are abhorrent. But on the field, the Rays replaced him with Rosario. He promptly went 0-4 at the plate and had 2 errors leading to all 3 runs, which cost me the game. Let's just say I don't know how to feel about this or what to do about it.

And I know baseball is a long season, but man, I want to trade Rosario already. He's got about 10-12 games before he sits for a bit if that's how he is gonna play.

Rays fan here also. If allegations are true, what a waste of a career. Game wise how about Caballero at short. Pretty sure he is going to start. And J. Caminero on the farm.

CINCINNATI REDS VS. WASHINGTON NATIONALS - GAME 2

The Reds and Nationals took to the field for the second of three games today. Hunter Greene for the Reds and Mackenzie Gore for the Nationals. It was a 0 - 0 game going into the bottom of the 5th inning. Both pitchers dealing giving up a couple hits each. Gore did a much better job by keeping the Reds base runners honest on the basepaths. Gore picked two runners off helping his struggling catcher who has a wet noodle of an arm.

With one out in the 5th the Reds put together back to back singles. Elly De La Cruz came to plate and laced a double for any normal runner, but for Elly it turned on the afterburners and easily made it a triple with 2 ribs.

Again Reds limited their starting pitcher to 6 innings bringing in RP Micheal Lorenzen for the 7th and 8th inning. The Reds did score another run in the 7th making it a 3 - 0 game. The Reds would have liked to score one more before the ninth to let Lorenzen go for a 3 inning pitch Save, but no such luck. Fortunately, the Reds have a very solid CP named Alexis Diaz who came in and got the Save easily.

                  Win. H. Greene
                  Loss M. Gore
                  Save. A. Diaz

Tomorrow's game will see the return of SP Johnny Cueto, Cueto was a fan favorite pitching for the Reds from 2008 to 2015. He was traded to Kansas City and later pitched for San Fran, the White Sox and Miami.

Sean Casey said owner SuperFuzzyButt made it a point to bring Cueto back for at least one more year as he is
a solid pitcher and even a better veteran presence in the clubhouse in which this younger pitching staff can learn from...Good Luck Johnny and welcome back home.

Braves Lose First Series In a Month, Cubs Make Their Statement

                    May 13-15,2024

The case could certainly be made that the Atlanta Braves have been the best team in baseball so far this year, and were hosting a team looking to make their claim.

The opener looked Atlanta was right, as Cubs' Kyle Hendricks was all but serving batting practice, getting four outs and allowing four homers, three off of right down the middle changeups. This would create a blowout win for the Braves, who homered a staggering nine times. Ronald Acuna, Austin Rile, Matt Olson, Ozzie Albies, Marcel Ozuna, Sean Murphy (twice), Jared Kelenic, and Orlando Arcia found the bleachers. Bryce Elder was fine, giving up one of two Dansby Swanson homers, and the Braves coasted to a 13-5 win.

The bats would go ice cold from there, as Spencer Strider took the mound and had his worst outing of the season in the second game, giving up four runs in 3.2 IP, the biggest being a Seiya Suzuki three run shot. Albies and Acuna combined for five hits, but the rest of the lineup combined for three as the Braves fell 5-1.

Things were looking up in the rubber match, as the Braves led 2-0 heading into the top of the ninth thanks to a two-run homer from Albies and a phenomenal performance from the Braves bullpen, but Raisel Iglesias would fall apart, giving up four runs in the top of the ninth. The biggest shot was a two-run blast from Yan Gomes and the Braves would lose their first series in May, falling 4-2.

To make matters worse, Max Fried only lasted two batters and is now heading to the 15-Day IL with shoulder soreness. In his place, the Braves are calling Huascar Ynoa, who had posted a 2.74 ERA in AAA before the promotion.

Up next, the Braves get a four-game set at home against the San Diego Padres (20-26). The Braves are 27-15 and lead the NL East by 4.5 games over the Phildalphia Phillies.

                      2025 Washington Nationals

Well, here we are in 2025 (on MLBtS 22). The Nationals have just wrapped up the first month of the season with a record of 17-14, good for third in the NL East. Here is the recap for the last few days of March plus all of April.

Washington started the season strong before running into a scheduling gauntlet mid-month that saw them face the Braves before seeing the red-hot Dodgers twice in a a 10 day span. The Nationals struggled against both teams, but split their series against a resurgent Rockies team, won series against the Marlins and Mets, and swept the Red, Marlins, and Mets to finish the month above the .500 mark.

Injuries: Washington lost Brady House until at least the beginning of May with a broken leg, and James Wood for the season with a torn ACL. Brandon Drury has missed the last week and a half with a strained pec, just the latest in a string of injuries he's endured during his tenure with Washington.

Roster Moves: DJ Stewart (Rule 5) was released by the Nationals after appearing in just 7 games. He was .136/.174/.409 with two home runs and three runs batted in. He was sent back to San Francisco, who also released him, making him a free agent. In a more shocking move, Luis Garcia (.148/.172/.213) was optioned to AAA. Garcia has been struggling at the plate and the club believes he is pushing too hard to get out of his rut. He has all of his options remaining so he will spend some time at AAA to work on his mechanics before coming back to the big league club. He has been replaced by Yasel Antuna, who went 2-3 in his MLB debut, also driving in two runs, working a walk and stealing a base.

                      Around the League
                      Who's Hot
Los Angeles Dodgers (23-9), Tampa Bay Rays (19-12), Seattle Mariners (21-11)

                      Who's Not
New York Yankees (10-21), Minnesota Twins (11-20), Oakland Athletics (10-21), Pittsburgh Pirates (9-21)

                      NL East Standings
                      Atlanta 19-11
                      New York 19-13
                      Washington 17-14
                      Philadelphia 13-18
                      Miami 12-19

Looking forward... In terms of scheduling, May should be an easier month for Washington. They will face Atlanta and Miami twice, as well as Houston, Cincinnati, San Diego, Colorado, and San Francisco.

                        GAME 3
                        CINCINNATI REDS VS WASHINGTON NATIONALS

                        CIN (2-0) vs WAS (0-2)

Reds fans showed up at Great American Ballpark with their brooms in hand hoping for a three game sweep of the Nationals.

Pregame the Reds highlighted SP Johnny Cueto's return. 3 players on the Reds roster who were teammates of Johnny's in 2015 when Johnny last pitched for the Reds were in today's starting lineup.
C Tucker Barnhart, 1B Joey Votto and RP Michael Lorenzen (two way player in LF). Billy Hamilton was in attendance for quick moment as he had to catch the Reds helicopter ride to get back to AAA Louisville Bats for their game. Many of Johnny teammates who are no longer in baseball were in attendance. A montage on the big board showing various clips of strikeouts by Johnny during his time as a Red as well as former teammates still around the league on video offering their support to Cueto. We even noticed a tear or two in Johnny's eyes but after warmups Johnny went back into the clubhouse and got himself composed because he had a job to do.

Cueto vs SP Patrick Corbin for the Nationals, both pitchers came out strong keeping the other team off the scoreboard. The Reds have had a noticeable struggle vs lefties this series which should be their strong suit as the have some really good right handed bats in this lineup. Let's hope it is due to how early it is in the season.

In the bottom of the fourth the Reds pushed across the first run of the game taking a 1-0 lead into the 5th. Against LF Jake Farley, who the Reds traded to the Nationals in return for LF Jesse Winker, Cueto HUNG a cutter to the big bat of the left handed hitter, and well, that ball is still in orbit circling the earth. Tied 1-1.

Cueto made it through the Reds customary 6 innings for Reds starters not allowing any more run. Cueto 6 IP, 4 H and 7 SO. Tied going into bottom of the 6th the Reds scored 2 more runs going up 3-1, and most importantly giving Cueto an opportunity to still get the Win.

Lefty RP Alex Young pitch a scoreless 7th.

In the 8th the Reds brought in righty SetUp RP Tejay Antone. Tejay was not expected to make the Reds Opening Day roster instead being sent down to rehab after coming off not ONE but a SECOND Tommy Johns surgeries in the past 4+ years. Tejay pitched a strong 8th, with only 11 pitches he had a scoreless inning.

CP Alexis Diaz was warming up to come in the game in the 9th to secure his second Save as the score was 3-1 in favor of the Reds. With platoon changes, skipper Aaron Boone subbed in a lot of his left handed bats and well that paid off as the Reds scored 2 more runs making it a 5-1 game.

Not wanting to waste his Closer in a non save situation, Boone elected to keep Tejay in let him go for his first Save as many have dubbed Tejay as CP #2 and perhaps taking the Closer spot altogether. Tejay got two quick out but then allowed RF Stone Garrett to hit one over the left field wall. Not a moon shot like Fraley's earlier in the game as it barely cleared but still counted. Tejay would regather himself get the final out and his first Save. Reds win 5-2.

Cueto was so happy to get the Win and thanked all the fans at the ballpark afterwards.

                        WIN. J. Cueto
                        LOSS. P. Corbin
                        SAVE. T. Antone

Reds are off to Philly for 3 games. SP Nick Lodolo hopes to keep the win streak going with SP Graham Ashcraft slated to pitch in game 2.

Good night from Great American Ballpark.

Prescott, AZ (AP) - The Flagstaff Hops split a four game series with rivals Prescott in their first ever visit to the brand new ASARCO Park.

The Hops opened up a big four game series in Prescott with a 4-3 victory on Thursday evening. David Petrovski hit his first home run as a Hop to help lead the ten hit attack for the visitors.

Flagstaff would grab a 2-0 lead in the second as Petrovski and Forrest Owen each hit solo home runs off of starter Ken Smith. They would increase that lead to 3-0 in the fourth on a solo home run from Robbie Westbrook. It was his eighth on the season.

Geraldo Rodriguez was cruising in the fourth, getting the first two outs before giving up a bloop single to Khris Kovach. He then hit Harwill O'Kane on an 0-2 pitch and then hung a curveball that Paul Knapp crushed for a game-tying three-run home run.

The Hops would retake the lead in the top of the fifth on a two-out RBI triple from Roberto Geronimo. That would prove to be the game winner.

Besides that rough third, Rodriguez (2-5) was once again pretty effective. He got the win, pitching six innings and allowing the three runs on six hits. Samuel Espinoza, Oliver Benedict and Vic Miller would not allow any baserunners over the final three innings with Miller picking up his 18th save.

Ken Smith (6-7) took the loss for the Hot Shots. He pitched five innings, allowing four runs on five hits.

Thomas Sanders made his Flagstaff debut on Thursday evening, going 2 for 4 with two singles.

On Friday night, the Hot Shots hit three home runs and scored five runs in the bottom of the ninth as they rallied to stun Flagstaff 7-5. Willie Reece hit his second home run of the game, a two-run shot of of Pedro Macias, to walk it off for the Hot Shots.

Flagstaff grabbed a 4-0 lead in the first inning. David Petrovski doubled home Roberto Geronimo to get the Hops on the board. Thomas Sanders then hit a sacrifice fly to make it 2-0. Forrest Owen followed that up with a two-run home run to put the Hops up by four.

Willie Reece homered off of Alex Farmer to get the Hot Shots on the board in the bottom of the first.

A Josh Carroll RBI double in the third cut the Hops lead to 4-2.

A David Benitez solo home run in the fourth put Flagstaff up 5-2. It was his 11th on the season.

Alex Farmer pitched seven innings, allowing two runs on six hits. Oliver Benedict pitched a scoreless eighth. Vic Miller came on in the ninth and got shelled. He gave up a two-run home run to Paul Knapp and then a solo home run to Noah Wilson that tied the game at 5-5. It was his fourth blown save on the season.

Pedro Macias came on and gave up a single to J.J. Ruffin and then served up the walk-off game winning home run to Reece to end it.

On Saturday night, the Hot Shots hit three home runs and cruised to an 8-3 victory over the Hops. George Collins led the way with a double, home run and two RBIs to lead Prescott to the victory.

Flagstaff once again jumped out to an early lead, scoring twice in the first. Art Mason hit a sacrifice fly with the bases loaded that scored David Benitez. Grant Mitchell then lined a two-out RBI single to score Robbie Westbrook.

But the Hot Shots would score four times in the second off of Juro Yamaguchi. Harwill O'Kane singled home Josh Carroll. George Collins then doubled home Khris Kovach. The Hot Shots then hot two sac flies to make it 4-2.

A George Collins solo home run in the fourth made it 5-2. Ryan Meger and Josh Carroll then hit home runs in the fifth off of Yamaguchi that made it 8-2.

David Benitez would hit a solo home run in the eighth for the Hops, his 12th on the year.

Juro Yamaguchi (2-8) was awful again, allowing eight runs on eight hits in 4.1 innings of work. Kenneth Valdez pitched the final 3.2 innings, not allowing a run or a hit. For Prescott, it was a bullpen game with Mile Coburn (4-1) earned the win. He pitched 3.2 innings in relief and did not allow a hit.

Sunday saw IBL history as Russell Fluty threw the first no-hitter in league history and was two outs away from a perfect game, allowing a walk to Noah Wilson, in a 6-0 victory for the Hops in the series finale.

Fluty (3-7) was dominant, striking out seven and just issuing the one free pass in the ninth inning.

Offensively, the return of Oscar Aleman to the lineup, gave the Hops a much needed boost. He was recalled from Triple-A Albuquerque with the injury to Grant Mitchell. Aleman went 3 for 4 with two home runs and he drove in three runs to help propel the Hops to the victory.

Roberto Geronimo got Flagstaff on the board in the fourth with a two-out, two-run double. Aleman then hit a two-run bomb to make it 4-0. They would add a run in the fifth as Robbie Westbrook scored as Emmitt Hampton grounded into a 6-4-3 double play. Aleman would then hit his second home run of the game in the sixth, his fourth on the season.

But the story was Fluty and his historic performance. Incredibly, Rio Rancho's McIntyre came close on Sunday afternoon also, just giving up a solo home run in the seventh as he tossed a one-hitter.

The Hops will return home for a quick two game series against a team that they have never faced, Las Vegas (43-43), beginning Monday evening at 7:05. In a weird scheduling quirk, the Hops will then have two off days before hosting Colorado Springs (35-48) on Friday evening.

Notes: Grant Mitchell left the game in the second inning, injuring his shoulder diving for a foul ball. He will be placed in the Injured List and is expected to miss 4-8 weeks. Oscar Aleman has been recalled from Triple-A Albuquerque.

Trades: Flagstaff makes another move as they send underperfoming 24-year-old Arturo Mardones (81 OVR, C POT) to El Paso for 29-year-old right fielder Thomas Sanders (80 OVR, B POT).

Around the League: Santa Fe's Ron Sposato (8-5) outdueled El Paso's Mark Donnellon (8-4), tossing a complete game one-hit shutout, as the Jays defeated the Express 5-0. Sposato only struck out one and walked five in the win. Corey Barton homered twice (16,17) and drove in three for the winning Jays.

Long Beach's Kyle Carroll went 2 for 4 with a home run and drove in two as the Surf Dawgs continued to play well, disposing of Henderson 8-3 to move up into second place in the DL West, behind surprising San Diego. Long Beach is (9-4) in their last 13 to pull to with two games of first place.

Former Hop Josh Ortega hit his first home run in San Antonio, but the Javelinas dropped a 5-2 decision to Fort Worth, moving the Kings just 1.5 games back of San Antonio in the ML East. Cal Velasco keyed a five run sixth inning for Fort Worth with a grand slam (8).

Chandler won the finale of a four-game weekend series with Mesa, 7-0, splitting the series. Mike Anderson (12), Cory Law (14) and Ervin Cordero (9) all homered for the Chiefs in the win, with Ramon Garcia (4-7) picking up the win, tossing 6.2 innings and allowing just one hit, while striking out nine and walking five in his first start since coming over from Flagstaff.

Long Beach completed the three-game sweep of Henderson on Sunday afternoon, scoring four times in the top of the ninth to pull out a 7-5 victory after the Silver Knights had scored five in the bottom of the eighth.

Rio Rancho's McIntyre (6-7) tossed a complete game one-hitter, only giving up a seventh inning solo home run to Luke Brady (17) in a 9-1 victory for the Owlz. McIntyre struck out 12 and did not walk a batter facing just 28 batters in the win.

Oakland suffers first sweep of 2024 by St. Louis

The St. Louis Cardinals overmatched the Oakland Athletics in their three game series.

Each game was close aside from the final score of the first game of the series. St. Louis won that game, 10-6 but that score could be deceiving.

After four innings, the score was tied, 4-4. Unfortunately, the Cardinals had a big fifth inning that eventually led to their series opening win.

In that inning, the Cardinals scored five. Those runs came via a ton of hits against Oaklands starter, Alex Woods.

The Pirates were never able to make that inning up as they eventually lost, 10-6.

They then went on to lose game two, 4-3 in extra innings and game three 2-1 after a lackluster offensive performance by each team,

The A's now head to Cleveland to face off against the Guardians (11-8/1st AL Cenral) who beat them 3-1 in the opening series of the 2024 season.
