Re: Torre in Tampa
Agreed. Pretty lame there, bkrich.
I wish Joe Torre the best. I would have loved to see him come back, but I understand why he didn't. Yankees won't the be same without him.Comment

Re: Torre in Tampa
Willis threw a ton of innings, and tons of high pitch counts, and had a terrible year this year.
Sanchez had an injury history, but was still thrown out there pitching a ton in September.
Doesn't prove anything, but neither does any relievers who got hurt or were ineffective after being used a lot by Torre.Originally posted by Jay BilasThe question isn't whether UConn belongs with the elites, but over the last 20 years, whether the rest of the college basketball elite belongs with UConnComment

Re: Torre in Tampa
I like him as a baseball guy. Don't like his ability to get along with the players, FO, and media.Originally posted by Jay BilasThe question isn't whether UConn belongs with the elites, but over the last 20 years, whether the rest of the college basketball elite belongs with UConnComment

Re: Torre in Tampa
Willis was changed mechanically. It has nothing to do with being overworked. He was just a mess mechanically. You could tell with every game he pitched.
Josh Johnson also had an injury history even before he hit Joe Girardi's hands.Comment

Re: Torre in Tampa
Case & point. Game 2 this years ALDS. Torre has historically gone to Mo for 2 inning saves almost 90% of time in the playoffs. So what does he do he sends Joba out there. Why? You see your players can't touch Carmona & it looks like 1 run is gonna be all your gonna get. Cleveland has the top of the order coming to the plate.
Also when Joba was having troubles with the BUGS, he doesn't even have Mo warming up, just in case something gos wrong. Even if your not gonna bring Mo in 2 least Cleveland see's him warming-up which could lead to them swing @ bad pitches because they know if Mo comes-in & the game is basically over. Then what kills me is Mo goes out & pitches 2 innings anyway. So why not the 8th & 9th...
This is just 1 example of Torre's bad managing
Just my opinion. I would have been fine with him doing whichever, but I think he would have been bashed either way if it didn't work.Originally posted by Jay BilasThe question isn't whether UConn belongs with the elites, but over the last 20 years, whether the rest of the college basketball elite belongs with UConnComment

Re: Torre in Tampa
Out of the guys for the job I'd most like Girardi on the team. Even if he did seem to overwork the pitches a bit, who knows if he will continue with that. It was his first year managing and the Marlins had a couple of good starters and an awful bullpen. I'd be fine with Mattingly on the team also. The only guy I don't want is LaRussa.Member of The OS Baseball Rocket Scientists AssociationComment

Re: Torre in Tampa
So if these guys had injury histories, why isn't Girardi even trying to be careful with them? Injuries are risks for all young pitchers. You have to do what you can to minimize the risk, not throw them out there like they are a 10 year veteran.Originally posted by Jay BilasThe question isn't whether UConn belongs with the elites, but over the last 20 years, whether the rest of the college basketball elite belongs with UConnComment

Re: Torre in Tampa
I am not saying that I would not want Girardi, he's my first choice now since Torre isn't going to happen, I'm just saying I have some concerns. I have more/bigger concerns with Mattingly and LaRussa though.Originally posted by Jay BilasThe question isn't whether UConn belongs with the elites, but over the last 20 years, whether the rest of the college basketball elite belongs with UConnComment
