This is why Castro needs to be hitting 3. Castro has tremendous power to the gaps already. He is developing the power to take the ball out of the yard. A 3 hitter is your best all around hitter. Castro has looked awesome this year and is driving in runs. Name a 2 hole hitter that is going to hit .300 plus, hit 20 home runs and drive in runs. I think Castro is our 3 hitter for the long run. At two he's a waste of a great bat, and depriving him of RBI chances.

to be perfectly honest, I hope it works out like you say.

I won't deny that he seems very much to be legit.

what do i care what the lineup is if they are successful?

I really hope our home grown talent works out. Jackson, Szczur, and Soler (hopefully), with Castro and Barney up the middle, and a lot of talented corner guys. Pitching is where we need help.

I like Marlon Byrd and all, don't get me wrong, but I might be one of the happiest guys out there when Brett Jackson gets called up. Byrd's .059 average just isn't cutting it.

Well...at least Castro is a great hitter.

That's about all i can say we have, as fans...

But a 5-game skid isn't that bad, it isn't epically bad by any means...that being said, there seems to be very little light at the end of the tunnel...

Are they really sold on Castro at short? Am I silly for thinking 2B would be better for him? I know I'm not alone. Anyone seen him enough to know whether he could be a 3B with great range?

An infield of Castro---Uh...Valbuena?---Barney---Rizzo... well, at least is has...potential...

Dempster and Woody to DL. Campana called up. Byrd maybe on way to Boston?

I was just coming in here to post the Byrd rumor: http://mlb.sbnation.com/2012/4/21/29...e?sct=hp_t2_a9

Nice to see Tony back with the team. He was off to a great start with Iowa.

Wonder who gets the Starts in CF now?

Lets hope Soto is next. But I think they'll just ride it out with him to get his Value back up.

Wells gets called up to start in place of Dempster. Byrd trade details will come after Boston's game. Eager to see if we eat any of his 6.5 million dollar contract

I'm guessing Reed Johnson will see the majority of starts, with Mather getting a few opportunities as well.

The link I posted a few posts ago says that the Cubs are getting RHP Michael Bowden and a player to be named later for Byrd and they Cubs are paying nearly all of Byrd's salary

                              Got a win...good to see.

Castro...wow...the real deal. Best cubs player since Ryno? Banks? probably...

                              Barney also seems legit.

Clevenger has surely earned himself some more frequent starts...6 hits in his last two starts, i think.

Ian Steward, Blake DeWitt....seriously? Surely there is another warm body they can trot out there and do better than this. move Castro to third and bring up another MIF. anything. It's time to give up on the has beens and the never will-bes. Why even bother with these guys if the club is rebuilding?

Because Stewart has had some success at the big league level. DeWitt got a roster spot because he proved he could handle adversity after getting DFA. Soriano hasn't been all that bad. The only players really killing us at the plate was Byrd and Soto. Even though Johnson, Mather, Baker, and DeWitt haven't produced, they will get a lot more ab's with Byrd gone. I see Soriano, Baker, Dempster, and Marmol gone in July. Other possible guys are DeWitt, Johnson and Baker. If any of those 3 are hitting, they'll be gone. Cubs are going through a youth movement, and those guys don't fit into future plans.

Either way, unless they shape up the bullpen, they won't win any games.
