Re: 2011 NBA Draft Discussion Thread

Na man, in the NBA you don't necessarily draft for need. Especially if you have a top 10 pick.

Draft the best player on the board, unless there's a for sure home run prospect who fits your need also.

Williams doesn't have to start off the bat. Bring him off the bench. I want to see Rubio with all these guys running the floor.

Cross the bridge when you get there, don't reach for a pick because you already have Beasley, especially in this draft.

I think Kemba is more of a scorer too, but apparently he's got a really good Pure Point Rating. And yeah, I've always seen Knight as a Jason Terry type guy.

I saw his PPR, it wasn't anything crazy, but Knights was in the NEGATIVE (last guy who had something like that was Stephen Curry).

Think you can't base too much of what Irving did last year stastically on what he can/will do.

          Did you mean Knight here?

And I'm not basing my assessment of Knight off of the PPR. I've just always thought he would be a good guy to have come off the bench because he's a combo guard that can score off the bench ala Jason Terry.

Yeahhhhh, my bad, completely misread this whole thing. /facepalm.

For some reason I got all of my wires crossed between Kemba, Knight, and Irving.

            Knight had the - PPR

Irving not so much (goes to say I dont know it but I'm sure I would have heard about his PPR being negative, as the consensus #1 draft pick)

            Anyhow...

Byron Scott says Cleveland for sure isn't decided yet on #1.

              A Williams/Knight or Williams/Kemba combo I can't hate on

An Irving/Kanter or Irving/International Big combo for some reason to me seems more iffy

The international bigs are cool but I'm not sure who to pick. They all seem decent at what they do. It's crazy.

I'm not sold on Williams so I'll flip flop with you on that. Idk I just think everyone is getting waaaaaay too hyped on his stats. You gotta dig deeper to really get a feel for what the guy is about (DRose syndrome: Sure he put up 20 something in the playoffs but he couldn't hit the broad side of a barn percentage wise and was taking an extra 4-5 shots from his regular season numbers to raise his average points by 2?). DWill may be shooting 56% from 3 but come on, make the guy shoot more than 2 or 3 a game with a hand in his face for once. Guarantee the number shrinks DRASTICALLY. Saying Dwill is a great scorer is an insult to actually great scorers in the NBA. First of all, you don't even know what position this guy will be playing. That's my biggest concern with him. His handles are awful for the 3 and he's not big enough to play the 4. I want nothing to do with this guy. That's just me though. And if the Cavs do draft him, I hope he proves me dead wrong.

So yes I'm more of a fan of the Cavs drafting Irving and a Euro big. In my mind, I want it to be Vesely. Too much is coming out now about Kanter not looking well in workouts and Vesely has a pretty good Euro resume compared to Valanciunas. If I had to pick one to roll the dice on it'd be Vesely. I'm not as certain on this one as I am about Irving vs. DWill though. Like you said, they all seem to be pretty good at what they do.

I just want the Cavs to get this one right and then get a scorer like Jones or Barnes in next year's draft. After that I think we could seriously compete in the playoffs again. Hell Indiana made it in 8 games under.

Oh yeah, I'm not sold on anyone to tell you the truth.

What I'm kinda extra not sold on is the Euros.

Williams I would love to see him start slow with Minnesota off the bench. I still see him like a Gerald Wallace.

Bulls trying to move up in the draft, trying to get into top 12. (rumor)

There are still rumors out there that the Chicago Bulls are going to try and trade into the first 12 picks in order to secure a shooting guard, especially because it looks like the two best ones will be gone quite quickly.

Honestly, do they really want to bank on a rookie being their starting 2 guard? They're right there in terms of contending.

I don't get it. They should go after a veteran not a rookie regardless.

Did Martin Gortat let the cat out of the bag. He posted something on Twitter basically saying he's being traded.

The rumor is him & 13 to minny for the #2 pick, Suns would then select Williams

It depends on who they give up. They have 2 first round pick, so if they can package those picks for someone like Marshon Brooks then that would be a good deal for them. They probably still try to add a veteran 2 guard.
