Re: 2011 NBA Draft Discussion Thread

Chad Ford's big board got a whole lot more interesting and looks like he agrees with what I've been saying since day 1.

New updated big board as of today.

    1. Irving
    2. Williams
    3. Knight
    4. Vesely
    5. Kanter
    6. Valanciunas
    7. Leonard
    8. Walker
    9. Singleton
    10. Thompson

OK Cavs come on!!! Even Chad Ford knows it now!

I agree with you. Fast, good 1 on 1 player, decent jumper, great handles, success at college level.

Marshon Brooks look to be climbing in mock drafts

NBAdraft.net says the Bulls get Shelvin Mack and Chandler Parsons.

DraftExpress.com says Justin Harper and Travis Leslie.

I'd hope we good get Brooks. I'm not sure that Mack is anything more than a back PG in the NBA. I just didn't see "it" with him. He just looked like good college player to me. Maybe he'll prove me wrong.

BUT Parsons is a MUST get. That kid can ball. He's got great vision, a good jumper, and just looks like he's got the will to get better. I really, REALLY, would like the Bulls to pick him up.

I never saw Harper play (if I did I didn't remember) and I'd pass on a Leslie until the 2nd round.

I just want the Bucks to get Burks or Brooks, and I want Rick Jackson to get drafted somewhere. With his rebounding, shot blocking, and touch around the rim (despite no real post moves), he should be welcomed to some NBA team.

You know how everyone thinks Euros are soft and how Dirk was "soft" until the this playoffs? This kid shatters those stereotypes. He goes harder to the rack than some kids from the Bronx. He's got an attitude when he plays. And at 6'11" with his offensive skill set I think he could be a force in the NBA at the 4 spot. Talk now is he's really been working on his outside shot. He already runs the floor great which, with Irving, we need guys who can run the floor. Irving's a magician in the open court. I just think Vesely complements Irving's style of play better, and is NBA ready compared to Valanciunas.

                Just my .02 though
Doesn't Valanciunas have MAJOR contract issues ala Rubio that could be a problem too?

I just think Vesely is better suited to the nba game and has the potential to be a a solid pro or even an all star if he pans out and you can't say that about many players in this draft. I think if the Cavs can get Irving and Vesely or Kanter out of this draft they should be very pleased with themselves.

I also agree about Walker, the guy's just a baller and could be a great pro imo.

Do you guys see him as a PG or more of straight scorer like Ben Gordon in the nba?

New stuff I heard yesterday/today was his contract is no longer an issue like Rubio's was. He's coming to the NBA regardless now. And imo Rubio never should have been drafted in the first place. I really scratched my head on that one when he was picked.

I was against Kanter in the beginning and hearing more stuff about his recent workouts I'm really against him. I really want Vesely a lot. I think the Cavs can really build around him and Irving. Target a great scorer in next year's draft and even a legit center (don't think Kanter is that guy). Vesely may not be lightning quick or guarding the 3 on the wing but offensively he can play out there and that is impressive at 6'11" and can straight find the rim.

Walker is a straight baller. I actually see him more like Westbrook. Not necessarily the speed but the ability to score the ball from the point. Let's face it not many teams come out in a full court press so I think labeling guys with the term "point guard" is kind of overrated. LeBum played point (bringing the ball up) in Cleveland 65% of the time he was on the court.

I still think Valanciunas upside is probably twice of that of anyone not named Kyrie Irving.

He has the potential to be a top center. He can move, has a great FT percentage that can possibly develop into a mid range game, is great defensively, and shows great touch around the rim.

Plus he is 7 foot, which almost guarantees that he'll be in the NBA in 5-10 years. Also, Vesely is represented by CAA and Leon Rose. Knowing DG, that could be a factor in not drafting Vesely, especially if Valanciunas and Vesely are close in their opinion.

If minny keeps their pick they are going Kanter. I don't want Knight. I'd rather Walker at 5. If the Raptors end up trading for Jonny Flynn I would even skip taking a PG.

They might. Who would have thought Kahn would draft 2 PG's with back2back picks in 09? Kahn is liable to do anything with that 2nd pick

I just can't see them gambling that hard after all of the past failure. Kahn needs to get this one right, Derrick Williams is more or less a sure shot (in 2-5 years I'll look back at this post and realize how wrong I was, right?), in comparison to the rest of the available talent.

Marshon Brooks at 15 is another surprise. Dude went from a 2nd rounder to late 1st, now he's almost a lottery pick.

And my Hornets slim probability of trading into the 1st to get him continues to fall by the wayside.
