I would trade Embiid and get back a starting caliber big preferably one that can shoot, wing and draft picks. Its a lot easier to surround Ben with shooters and just move Al over to the starting 5. You could come up with 10 offers instantly that would make them better.

Re: 2020 Offseason Thread
Sure, a core like the Celtics are all top 9 picks, but mid to late picks can be useful if a team drafts and develops better.
Giannis didnt go in the lottery, Siakam was a late 1st pick, Butler was the last pick in the 1st round, so a mid to late 1st is far from some throwaway pick or just some bench guy.Comment

Re: 2020 Offseason Thread
Sixers are expected to hire Sam Cassell and Dan Burke(from Pacers) to their coaching staff. I like their moves so far. I agree that'll it would be easier to move Horford to Center and should get good offers for Embiid who has 3 years left on deal. Still need a Combo Guard/Secondary Playmaker off the bench who can create their own shot, SF/PF 3pt shooter, and scorers off the bench. I do like Morey's about to make trades and draftingComment

Re: 2020 Offseason Thread
Despite his talent, because of his injury history and stamina issues, I personally wouldn't give up those three assets for Embiid. Two of the three and someone else, but not that combination. Also is Embiid a good fit with Carter? I'm not sure that those two are complementary players.Jordan Mychal Lemos

Happy for him to get a real opportunity to coach. [emoji1490]
He’s coached under some good minds on both sides of the ball and had a brief stint in Charlotte while Steve Clifford was out so I’m hoping he does well in Houston.#RespectTheCultureComment

Re: 2020 Offseason Thread
Morey definitely has a good reputation on finding ways to bring in stars and making trades. He's going to have to find a way to get rid of Horford and Harris contract. Harris isn't going to live up to that contract. It was like once they knew Jimmy wasn't coming back they wanted something to show for it. Horford never made sense from the jump. It was for a hypothetical matchup with the Bucks. I never liked the idea of teams forming rosters just to match up well with one team
Part of me still wants to see Ben and Joel stay together. It never felt like they got that close. I rather see them get rid of Harris and Horford, and see them surrounded by more shooters. But it is all predicated on Ben being more aggressive and Joel getting into and staying shape. I'll think Ben would benefit being that #2 guy. I always felt he was more aggressive when things ran through him and passive when it wasn't. If anyone is able to make a deal happen it would be Morey. I do think Morey was a similar situation to Doc Rivers. Where once those high profile names came available, they didn't want to pass up the opportunity. I'm sure Doc was a candidate for Houston since prior relationship with Morey with the Celtics. But, I don't think Brand was apart of that decision. He was in line to be the primary shot caller. Now he has to report to Morey. I know it is tempting for him to possibly leave. But, I think this would be a good learning experience for him.Comment

Re: 2020 Offseason Thread
No the hell that isn’t solid for both sides. That’s every tradable asset we have with any real value for an injury prone, oft unmotivated plodding big man in a perimeter centric, uptempo league, who’ll also be turning 27 in the middle of the next seeson that could or could not actually be played next year depending on where we are with this pandemic. No thanks, I’ll take my cap space and crapshoot of this draft class and try our luck with that instead.

Re: 2020 Offseason Thread
Idk King, I’ve felt the #4 spot in the draft was a bad spot for Chicago since the lottery and don’t see anybody in this draft regardless that looks like a sure fire can’t miss prospect. Only 3 players all year long have looked like true top 10 level picks in this class, Edwards, Ball, Wiseman, and I don’t even feel truly solid in any of them. I don’t think any player Chicago picks starts over White, LaVine, Satoransky, Porter, Thad, Lauri, Carter, if all healthy so Chicago is just posited to sit in mediocrity unless White and Lauri take massive jumps in their game.
Embiid has injury history but he’s also been available in the playoffs 3 straight seasons now. When on the floor he’s easily a top 10 player in the league, he needs to work on conditioning because it feels like he only provides 25-30 minutes of his best play any given night before looking gassed, but he’s an MVP level talent.
This trade gives up no All-Stars, no future picks or assets, you’re selling high on LaVine just having his best case good stats bad team stats to boost value, he’s never bringing a return back better than landing a player like Joel. And you yourself said you’re no longer high on Lauri.. maybe Philly adds a future first to sweeten the deal, or swap Lauri for Satoransky, but I don’t see why Chicago would want that, perhaps Carter, but either way I don’t see a reason why Chicago shouldn’t pull the trigger here.
Unless Chicago gets blown away in a draft workout you’re basically getting Embiid for a volume scoring starter, young role player with still solid potential but better served as a reserve currently, young bench player with the draft pick. Compared to the packages for AD, PG, Westbrook, this is actually a steal for a star.

Re: 2020 Offseason Thread
Yeah, I don't like that trade for either team. For the Bulls, you're losing trading away good assets on the gamble that you get a motivated and in shape Embiid. You can't play him alongside Carter. So you'd have to trade him away as well. That doesn't really move the needle. Embiid already got paid, going to a non-playoff team isn't going to motivate him. I rather Bulls continue to develop Carter and White and hope they hit with the 4th pick.
For the Sixers, it wouldn't move them closer to a being a title contender. Still would have to move Harris or Richardson. It'll be easier to move Richardson. Is a lineup of Simmons-LaVine-Harris-Lauri-Horford capable of getting higher than the 6th seed next year? Then Sixers aren't in the position to develop a rookie this year in a shorten offseason with championship aspirations. This isn't a draft I want to trade up into. Sixers need a immediate contributor like Matisse was. I wouldn't mind if they traded away the #21 pick and a future 1st if that meant trading away Tobias or Horford contract. They have 5 picks, i wouldn't be surprised if 3 of them were traded and/or draft & stash international player.Comment

Re: 2020 Offseason Thread
See I disagree because I think Carter can absolutely play the 4 next to Embiid and slide to center when Embiid sits, or just play the Trez role as a 6th man 4/5 and keep Thad starting. Carter has already spent minutes guarding some quicker "bigs" sharing minutes with Lauri and Portis, I believe he even requested to be moved to the PF spot permanently last year but they had no true center on the roster. It's always going to be unknown how "motivated" Embiid will be regardless of situation, but a change in scenery for all we know might be all he needs. I don't think this is him going to a non-playoff team though because I instantly feel they are a playoff team after getting him.
As poor as Chicago was last year they were still the 11th seed. They would be getting Porter back, adding Embiid, and giving more of the backcourt touches to White who was notching 24 a night on nearly 50/40/90 numbers post All-Star break. If the number 4 pick was a complete deal breaker for them perhaps multiple future firsts, or a pick swap plus a couple 2nd rounders could get it done.
For the Sixers they wouldn't necessarily have to develop a rookie this season. But I do think the number 1 reason for them to move up would be to have a shot to draft Wiseman and let him play behind Horford for a year or two. I think his potential ceiling is highest in the draft, but he needs a couple of years off the bench. If Charlotte gets him at 3 like it's rumored to happen they could get a contribute now player like Avdija or Toppin. If this trade was to be made I don't think they would necessarily have to make a trade elsewhere, though they could, but I was looking at it more so that Lauri would play the 6th man 4/5 role and they would start Ben/LaVine/Richardson/Harris/Horford. This is a best case scenario in terms of spacing for Ben, and Lauri spaces off the bench as well.
This trade vastly improves their shooting, improves their playmaking as they add a combo guard skilled type of player in Lavine, and Horford can move to that playmaking 5 role he had for Boston. And I fully expect them to try to land another immediate contributor like Matisse with their 2nd round picks. Someone like Tre Jones, Grant Riller, or Cassius Winston. As far as how high they could finish, we're still kinda waiting to see what type of player Ben will be when he's just fully given the reins. Until we see that I think it's up in the air.Last edited by ojandpizza; 10-29-2020, 09:38 PM.Comment
