    Re: 2023 Offseason Thread

Montrezl Harrell resigns with the Sixers on a vet minimum deal.

I really don't understand the signing, unless Paul Reed is going to leave elsewhere. Harrell doesn't bring anything valuable to the team at this point of his career. Doc tried to use him as a rim protecting rim rim runner. Harrell spent most of his time pouting on the bench when Reed took over backup minutes. I don't get having 4-5 centers on the roster when you have clear and obvious wing depth issues. And from Harrell perspective, I'm sure there wouldn't been other teams that would have been a better opportunity to play.

The Lillard heel turn is happening

@TheNBACentral If Damian Lillard lands with a team other than the Miami Heat, he won't report to training camp, per @MarkG_Medina

"‘He just wouldn’t go,’ a person familiar with Lillard’s thinking told Sportsnaut. ‘He just wouldn’t report.'… ‘I don’t think the other team would trade for him knowing that he doesn’t want to be there,’ the person familiar with Lillard’s thinking told Sportsnaut. ‘He’s a first-ballot Hall-of-Famer, so they should respect his wishes.’"

"Philadelphia 76ers restricted free agent F Paul Reed Jr., has signed a three-year, $23M offer sheet with the Utah Jazz, his agent Ron Shade of Octagon Basketball tells ESPN. Sixers have until Sunday at 11:59 PM ET to match sheet and retain Reed.
One of the terms of the offer sheet provides a unique twist: The first season of the contract is fully guaranteed and the two following become guaranteed for $15.7 million if Reed’s team advances to conference semi-finals in the 2023-24 season, sources said."

I wouldn't be surprised if Philly doesn't match it. It's a deal that is a one year deal for Utah if they're focus isn't on playoffs. But could be a full 3 year deal for Sixers if they advance to the 2nd round

"(2/2) Reporting with @ShamsCharania, via league sources: The new deal also includes a 15% trade bonus, and the guaranteed salaries descend year to year. The salaries below are rounded:
                2023-24: $25.6 million
                2024-25: $23.5 million
                2025-26: $21.5 million
                2026-27: $19.4 million"

A good contract for both sides. Kuz gets more upfront money and since it's a descending contract, it's a more positive contract to move in the future

The descending contract makes sense, but the 15% cancels out that. Still a good deal and someone should trade for him down the line and Washington picks up expirings and draft picks

Reed is generally overrated by Philly fans. But that is because he plays hard and is a hustle guy. Philly hasn't really had that type of guy in a while and since their backup Center spot has been terrible for a while, he gets bumped up by fans. He's better suited to be a backup PF as opposed to center. But he can't shoot and has a very funky looking shot and often tends to go outside of his lane trying to do too much.

But, I am BSing when I say he's the best rebounder on the team and athleticism will take a deeper dive. Last year had to be the worst effort on the boards for Embiid in his career. If he goes, the only athletic guys on in rotation would be Maxey and what D House lol. I'm not a BBall Paul Stan, but he's a better option than relying on Bamba to be playable and the heavily washed Montrezl Harrell.

It is funny with the team success part. It says we know we're not making out the first round, so it's a one year deal for Utah. But we know Sixers are likely going to at least make the 2nd round. They're essentially challenging the Sixers to pay the Luxury tax this year. The other years don't really matter since a lot of money is coming off the books anyway. But unless they salary dump Furkan Korkmaz, they're going to pay the Luxury tax even if they fill the last couple roster spots with vet min guys. So, might as well match. Only way I can see them avoiding the tax is if they trade Tobias or James and take back less salary.

Free agent F Dario Saric has agreed on a one-year deal with the Golden State Warriors, sources tell ESPN. Saric was one of the most sought-after players left on the market. - Woj

More of a $ issue saves Atlanta 4.5 million and 8 mill below luxury tax and helps the roster crunch. Mills seems like the type that will be traded at some point, but could be occasional minutes here in the meantime.

I expect OKC to make more moves. They already have an abundance of young talent with not of minutes to go around now.

They have 21 players and that's the maximum a team can have. I can see them packaging players for picks or a right-now player to help them.

"ESPN story on the Thunder completing an assets deal with the Hawks that takes them to 35 draft picks in the next seven years — including 15 first-rounders:".

That's ridiculous lol. Need as many lottery tickets as possible.

The only thing I could think is TyTy Washington probably wants to play in summer league. But he keeps getting traded [emoji23].

OKC doesn’t have a plan they are just collecting draft picks and young plans with zero clue what they are doing.

They could have used their cap space and tried to win next year. Instead took on bad contracts for very little return and will likely do more of that. You can’t even properly develop the guys they have now. They still have like three 1st next and I don’t think any of them elite picks.

Eventually you’re going to have to make a home run swing and I would think soon while your not paying the young guys
