I actually don’t have an issue with their strategy. They’re realistically the only team that could probably get away with it. Maybe Utah also.

"Just In: San Antonio Spurs coach Gregg Popovich – the winningest NBA coach of all-time – has signed a new five-year contract extension with the franchise."
He's not leaving the sideline until he's on a stretcher. I thought he would've retired after Kawhi left lolComment

Rich Paul is a ****ing Goat [emoji238].
The Bucks are signing F Chris Livingston to a four-year, $7.7 million rookie deal, CEO of Klutch Sports Rich Paul and agent Brandon Cavanaugh tell @TheAthletic @Stadium. First two years guaranteed. It’s the largest ever total salary for the final pick in the NBA Draft.
I know it's cheap. But I didn't think this guy would get signed to a long term deal.Hands Down....Man Down - 2k9 memories

Re: 2023 Offseason Thread
Props to Rich Paul but also the Bucks obviously see something in him to offer that deal.
If he hits though this deal could also **** him.. 4 years means if he’s playing well enough after year 2 to get a Caruso, Reaves, THT, Kuz type of extension he’s not going to get it.Comment

Re: 2023 Offseason Thread
I’d be more on board with this if they weren’t winning games or failing to develop their guys. They look much more promising than Detroit, Houston, or a team like Philly before Embiid took off... SGA, Giddey, Jalen Williams, and Jaylin Williams all had really solid seasons last year. They nearly made the playoffs and will have a decent shot at getting back to that point this year too. And if we’re being realistic they really need to see what they have with Chet before doing something drastic with their roster.
They’re basically a .500 team right now and being a .500 team when your top 8 rotation players are all under 25 years old and you still have tons of picks in the future is probably an “issue” most teams would welcome having lol.
At some point they’ll likely lose a couple of these guys. You can’t just pay them all (unless you’re piling up rings) but if these guys are getting lots of minutes together now it’s going to be tough to decide which ones to let go.. also with the CBA taking effect who knows if this path isn’t the ideal one. They’ll quickly be in the tax if they keep all these guys long terms, and under these new rules that largely limits you to paying just your own guys. Having all those picks might be their only avenue to upgrading their roster in the future.Comment

"Reporting with @espn_macmahon: Dillon Brooks’ four-year, $80M deal with the Rockets? Well it’s landed at four-years $86M in the sign-and-trade — with $4M more in incentives that can bring it to $90M, sources tell ESPN."
"Here’s the per year breakdown:
23-24: $22.6M
24-25: $22.3M
25-26: $21.1M
26-27: $20M
All 4 years are guaranteed"
So it's a descending contractLast edited by illwill10; 07-09-2023, 10:07 AM.Comment

"The 76ers are matching Paul Reed’s three-year, $23M offer sheet with the Jazz, sources tell ESPN. Per sheet’s terms, Sixers must guarantee last two years of Reed’s deal if they win the opening round of playoffs this season."
Almost surprised they matched it lol. I just don't like the idea of having 4 centers on the roster. But, I can see Reed playing more PF this year.Comment

Re: 2023 Offseason Thread
Even if Reed plays more PF this year, that doesn't explain resigning Montrezl Harrell. He was pouting the entire 2nd half of season when he lost the backup spot. In a perfect scenario, he doesn't play at all. Then there were talks that they were going to bring over a Center Petrusev they drafted a couple years ago. I don't see that happening now with the last 3 signings, plus based on Summer League, Petrusev doesn't look like a NBA center. Sixers have 2 more spots left, and those 2 spots needs to be wings that can shootComment

Re: 2023 Offseason Thread
I am in the camp of thinking the whole tournament is unnecessary. Who, outside of Adam Silver, asked for this? I am intrigued, though. I think that eventually it will take on the vibe of early season NCAA basketball tournament games. They don't mean anything, but it's kind of a celebration of the early season and a chance to see how teams stack up with some stakes.

I think pretty much everyone was asking for the regular season to mean more/teams to take it more seriously and this is one of the league’s ideas to address that (and more importantly for the league, another way to make more money). And I tend to think it’ll work at least to some extent.
Certainly isn’t the ultimate solution though.

I think I did see that PJ Washington is likely going to sign his qualifying offer since most of the money dried up. I wouldn't be surprised if Ayo D. does the same.
Not much left over. Only guys like Oubre, T Ross, Wood, Bol Bol, and a couple other guysComment
