    Re: The OS Golfer's Thread!

June starts my Money season for golf. Start out tomorrow with a 2 man best ball tournament. Went to the range today and hit 200 balls. really concentrating on my shoulder turn, swinging out to 1 o'clock and keeping the wrists hinged. Was consistently hitting my 6 iron 190. I'm getting a little too much height on my drives, they are going 250 in the air, but not getting very much roll, but they are straight. I was peppering the flag at 120 with a utility wedge and getting nice groupings at 150 with my 8 iron. 3 wood needs some work. I really need to be getting 240 out of that, right now its going about 220. Think I'm casting that a bit. In the end, it all comes down to putting though. Need to get some practice in tomorrow before the round.

Played my second 9 last night. My Dad worked with me on my chipping for about 15 minutes and it was like night & day. I fell apart on the last 3 holes & went bogey, bogey, bogey. But I shot a 39. Not bad. I think if I work on it this year I can get my handicap below 5.
340? should be playing from the tips with that ... jesus!

I hit my 6 iron about 190, my 8 iron is close to 170... definitely sounds like a cast there...and same with your 3 wood. Mine is around 250-260 out of the fairway and 270 off of the tee (when hit properly lol)

Went through a bit of a struggle with ball striking today, but managed to crack 100 again. Had a couple of REALLY bad holes, but somehow was able to make up for them just enough. Putting wasn't as horrendous today because I didn't really have any huge 30 or 40 foot putts to deal with. Still needs a lot of work, but definitely felt better today than last time.

Played a course I've never played on before, ended up shooting an 86. Not bad but ball striking for me was an issue, a lot of thin shots and I kept over drawing my irons.

Had my first ever hole out from a bunker hole 15. Had about a 40 foot bunker shot with the green sloping away from me. To make matters worse the ball was about 2 and a half feet from the lip and the ball was about a foot below the lip. Popped the ball out of the bunker, hit my landing spot perfectly and ball slowly began to roll down toward the hole. Ball tracked its way down to the hole, hit the flag stick and dropped! One of the best bunker shots I've ever hit.

I also broke mu 60 degree wedge today. Forgot I had it placed along a rock ledge and ran over it with our golf cart... At least I have an excuse to get my wedges re shafted now haha.

Hit the range for the first time with a buddy this weekend. An old guy was walking by us as he's coming off the 18th green. He tells us just before we walk past him: "I just discovered a great tip that will instantly take 5 strokes off your round. Do you want to hear it?"

We're both skeptical but we say, "yeah sure, what is it?"

He goes: "Skip the first par 3"

Woke up early this morning, and went to my go-to course for a round. Men's league was on, but all tee times were open after, so I played the front 9 twice for speed purposes. Miraculously shot a 51 on the front, and a 51 on the back. This is odd, I usually shoot around 100 but have a low-mid forties 9 followed by a mid-high 50's 9. Managed to get my wedges working beautifully - hit the pin twice, once from around 40 out, and the second time from around 70, neither went in though ... too bad my drives are still crap.

Has anyone played the Calloway X2 Hot+? I am working on my swing and I am losing a lot of balls in the process so I am looking for a cheaper option while I work out the kinks. E6 is still a good ball, but I am looking to try another ball in in the sub $30 range, until I feel like I have my swing back to a good place and go back to my R330-RX and Z-Star combo.

                  Re: The OS Golfer's Thread!

I played the round of my life yesterday.

Shot 76. 40 on the front, 36 on the back.

My putting was pretty on point all day. I was making some lengthy par putts on the front nine, and was just barely missing some lengthy birdie putts, that left me in great position to tap in for pars, on the back.

On the back, I was playing golf the way it's supposed to be played (I just never am able to play like that.)

I was in the fairway off the tee, then hit my second shot on the green, then two putted for par. Almost every hole on the back, that's how it went.

Even though I was elated with my overall play, I was disappointed because it could have been even better.

On the par 3 17th hole (195 yards), I put a 3 iron about 5 feet from the pin, and then missed the birdie putt. I had to "settle" for a par.

On the next hole (a short par 5), I drove the ball around a dog leg, and left myself just 140 to the green for my second shot. I then hit the worst 8 iron I'd hit all day, and put it about 20 feet off the side of the green, in the rough, and had to chip up for my 3rd. I ended up with a 2 putt par, but I should have been on the green in 2, and putting for eagle and birdie.

I could have realistically shot -2 on the back, had I capitalized on those opportunities.

I was feeling so good after playing 18, I went out for 9 more and ended up shooting a 40. But I was +3 on the last 4 holes, so I was probably getting a little worn down.

Still, in my last 3 rounds playing by myself, I've shot 79, 80, and 76. Starting to feel good about my game going into this summer.

Pretty much the way I am going to try to play the rest of this season. Hit the fairway, aim for the biggest part of the green (the center) and two putt. I've been getting into trouble going for pins when I should not be. My last four holes on Sunday I did that, and went Par, Par, Birdie (par 3 with center pin location), Par. Made the game seem so simple.

That is a great round BTW, congrats and keep it up.

Golf Balls unlimited. I only pull out new Pro V1's for tournaments. All the other times I use 4A rated used NXT tours. About $12-15 per dozen. They are the legit balls, not the refurbished Pinacles with Titleist painted on them.

Honestly you can get old models of pro v1s in AAAA quality for 20 bucks. I got a dozen for $12 and they looked brand new.

AAAAA is the best but AAAA will do wonders for a cheap alternative while maintaing a great ball.

I have a box of them, and also played Hot Pros from last year. X2 hot+ are decent distance balls, i definitely drive straighter with them. I recommend those or the even cheaper hx bites or hx diablos. All decent for keeping it straight.

I personally wouldnt use pro v's even if they are cheap, those things spin out of control your drive will be worse than ever imo. I use chrome +'s which also spin a lot, but switch to one of the callaway balls mentioned when my slice is too much.

I'm starting to do this now, I usually only hit driver on really long par 4s (over 420 yards) and par 5s, but only if I think I could realistically reach the green in two. Otherwise its 3iron/3 wood off the tee and an 8iron- pw into the green. Aim for the center, unless its a tiered green, then aim for the proper side and if you miss it can still be an easy up and down.

I'm pretty sure I've dropped at least 3 strokes from not pin hunting. (also I've noticed that my miss with my wedges is a slight pull, so I may even aim ever so slightly right of my "perfect" target.)

I'm so on and off with my long irons. They were terrible at the range today. Everything else was bang on. Anybody who hits them well have some advice for me? It seems the only way I can kind of hit them is if I have absolutely not movement what so ever, which is a contrast from my woods which I hit very well, where I have lots of body\hip movement.

For me I find having a good smooth tempo helps tremendously. Also feeling like I have a wider swing arc along with a short pause at the top to get everything in sync.

Those are just what I feel when I hit a long iron good, it maybe different for others.
