I must admit maybe it has been this way, maybe not. But I think Fox has done a great job with the US Open this year. Maybe its because its on the west coast but them showing 8 hours of coverage today is just great. I enjoy seeing guys who I know won't win it like Phil and Rory play their round.

Yeah, I have to say, I have no issues with Fox's coverage for their first time. I actually like the shot tracking comet thing since on TV you can never follow the ball flight otherwise. I also like the yardage graphics (although I wish they would put them up for a second, then take them off when the shot is occurring).

The commentary team is "meh", but unless it's someone really entertaining like Feherty or McCord, it's sort of all the same to me.

SinisterAlex: The FOX team spent a good 5-10 minutes talking about the poor spectator accessibility/experience on the broadcast today, so it wasn't just you. The president of the PGA was asked about it and more or less acknowledged they could do better. Awesome pics, BTW - looking forward to seeing more!

I don't know how I feel about the the shot trail.

I can go back and forth on that. I think their camera's have been pretty poor but I don't know if that's a fox thing or if balls are just hard to track on this course which is quite possible.

I think they are still learning how to switch between golfers and have struggled with that aspect a bit but that too is to be expected for the first time.


I don't at all like the commentary BUT for the first time I'm not opposed to them getting another. It's hard to do perfectly right the first time.

I don't know how I feel about the the shot trail.

They have a tendency to stay with the golfer too long after the shot. Overall though the visual presentation is growing on me. Flesch and Buck should be replaced. Buck is their guy though and as long as he wants to do this he will.

As far as the broadcast... They did fine. The flight trail was a tad overdone though.

The USGA are trying way too hard to make their major the hardest major to win. The us open should have never been played at this course. I feel for DJ, what a terrible way to lose. 3 putting within 12 feet, good job USGA way to screw the players this week. The course didnt even look like a pga course.

I dunno...I feel like players always complain the US Open courses. It's like an annual tradition.

I like it just fine the way it is. The greens did look pretty bad, but a bunch of guys managed to kill it out there, and the winning score is lower than what we're used to seeing (even or -1). I think the poa anna thing is being over-blown. And for 1 tournament a year, if they play on a course where they can't go 14 or 15 under, well...so be it. I'm fine with the US Open being the toughest test of golf or whatever. It's compelling viewing. For my money, that 2004 US Open at Shinnecock, which everyone complained about being unfair, was among the most compelling US Opens I've ever seen. I say, bring it on USGA.

I made my jokes on Thursday. That course looked like they should've been playing for the Clarig Jug....I will say this. WHen I hear players say that the greens are like putting on broccoli, I feel for them be cause us wekeend hacks have all played on greens like that and its no fun at all.

Yeah, I always thought that was a bit of a joke that he got penalized for grounding his club - I mean, no one in their right mind considered where he hit from to be a bunker. It was, at best, a sandy patch of ground/turf, with no distinct borders and really not even in the field of regular play (if I recall correctly). I mean, the gallery was standing in it until his ball landed there - what kind of bunker are fans allowed to stand in? But I guess it's hard to argue, since the PGA allegedly told everyone to consider all sand on the course as a bunker so....

The players are unloading now, which I guess is a bit of an annual tradition. I don't take them all that seriously, but I do tend to take Gary Player seriously, and he was fired the f* up:

Yowza....usually internet video clip titles are totally BS (so-and-so "destroys" such-and-such), but in this case, Player really did 'crush' Chambers Bay...

I guess I watched about 40 hours of golf last week. Love the West Coast start time. Anyway the golf gods owe DJ a major. 2010 was a joke. You got people standing in a stand trap and penalize the guy for gronding his club in that mess? Watch Rory win the next 2 majors this year.
