Re: The OS Golfer's Thread!
Not quoting me, but I thought I'd answer, HF. I'm using SwingbySwing app, and my goodness...it is simply amazing. I wish I had used it when I got my handicap as well. Used it for the first time today, wish I had used to it yesterday as well, considering I scored the same:

Re: The OS Golfer's Thread!
I actually use the SwingShot golf camera:
Get personalized certified PGA Pro golf coaching through SwingShot. Download Swingshot app on Android or IOS and improve your swing today!
It is absolutely amazing. Just push it into the ground, press the button, and it gives me 10 secs to set up, etc, then I have 44 seconds to make a swing. That is just one of the modes, I believe it's called Course mode. There are several other modes though.
It comes with a USB dongle that connects to my PC, and can view the files from there (.mov files).Comment

Ah, haha, great I like the app as well - telling everyone about it.

I ended up buying one of the better rated gopro knock offs just to see if I will use it enough. Plan to record some golf rounds and some soccer free kicks.TB Lightning | Liverpool | Panathinaikos | Toronto FC

Re: The OS Golfer's Thread!
Played twice over the long weekend.
Played Saturday morning and shot 97 (47-50). I triple bogeyed two holes on the back including the 18th which left a sour taste in my mouth. My iron play was decent as I was no longer catching fat or thin, but my distances are still off. Put the driver away mid-round and hit a hybrid off the tee.
Played Sunday afternoon at the same course and shot 90 (44-46). I double bogeyed the 18th to kill a great round. I was so frustrated and the 18th seems to have my number. Said thing is that its nothing special. Just a basic dogleg left with water on the right which shouldn't effect me but it does, as I end up far left in shrubs each time. Driver was better, irons were solid, and I putted very well except for 3 putt on 8th and 18th, although one putt on the 18th was actually from off the green.
Playing Saturday at a Links course. First time playing there in 5 years, should be interesting.I can't shave with my eyes closed, meaning each day I have to look at myself in the mirror and respect who I see.
I miss the old days of Operation Sports :(

Re: The OS Golfer's Thread!
Shot a 92. 46 front and same for back. I had my usual idiot moments along with a couple holes where I screwed myself with driver and having to punch out without advancing ball.
So next up is Friday's fundraiser ... Then I'm pretty sure I'll be out on Tuesday which I'm really excited about due to some "changes" I'm trying... Going to use Friday as a second look at the changes before going full scale
I'm hoping to get video of Tuesday's round if course not too busy. Probably just use my GoPro but maybe my better family cam.. we'll see.Joshua:

Re: The OS Golfer's Thread!
Hey fist, thanks, man!
This is a very non-traditional swing, and I'm still learning the little things about it that make huge gains. The main benefit, for me, is that this a swing method that is built off of playing from a pre-set position, versus micro-managing the motions to get there. Very little moving parts, and my entire right side is not used - which is why I still struggle, because it definitely still creeps up (as evidenced of my over the top swing).
Here is Jim's YT if you're just curious (I know you have a good golf game already and don't want anyone to go down the paths I have, and continue to have gone):

Re: The OS Golfer's Thread!
One other thing about this Jim guys swing, is there a 3 wood video anywhere. I feel pretty confident with all my clubs except that 230 yard shot from the fairway over junk. I'd just want to see where his impact point is. His setup looks like it would be snap hook city for me on the woods.Chalepa Ta Kala.....Comment

Re: The OS Golfer's Thread!
Great ? about the 3W etc..
For me I used Jim's method (That is what I was alluding to in previous post. Used Jim's method on last 7 holes) on everything except woods and shots inside 100 yards. I was too scared to try as my driving and wedge short game is doing great. Actually never even crossed my mind to try it on 3W.
What I did use it on was frankly very surprising and eye opening at the pureness of strike.
My 1st swing was roughly 148 yards. I aimed 5-6 yard R and then did the setup etc... Pure strike and a great R-L ball flight.. BUT the draw was about 10-15 yards so missed green. I adjusted and was pretty on point then on. Either on green or just off.
My friend and I are doing a range session Sunday and I'll be trying the 3W then. I'm driving too well (and wedge short game is nice) to go away from what I'm doing there.
In the end the main issue I had was how it looks so far away from a traditional setup and so a part of me was the "guy that didn't want to look goofy".. However if this gets me posting lower scores, F what I think I may look like Lol..
EDIT: The more I thought about it.. I don't get much forward weight shift (to the extreme of Jims system) with woods/driver.. so I doubt I use it for those anytime soon.. BUT I'll give it a shot on range.Last edited by Skyboxer; 06-01-2016, 10:34 PM.Joshua:

Re: The OS Golfer's Thread!
Good luck with that - hope it works out! I share your frustration. I've only been out a couple times, and my approach shot has been my best shot for a few years, with anything under 60 being flopped on, but so far this year, I've gotten behind some approach shots rather than lifted them up. End up being long by some distance.TB Lightning | Liverpool | Panathinaikos | Toronto FC

A couple things though I noticed in his videos is that he really never tells you how to swing. He just swings. But he doesn't explain really the proper mechanics of not using your arms until you rip through the shot. I would imagine that a lot of people who just watch his videos cast at the top of the swing. He's obviously has a lot of natural golf ability and a good swing speed, but he never explains how his method can add distance, he seems to be approaching it more from the point of teaching someone who has never made solid contact. And I cant find any videos of him hitting a wood off the deck. Also he says head infront of the ball, I cant see how he can drive the ball with that method. I drive the ball well enough, but I've had to work at keeping my head behind the ball to add distance and not pull it.

Re: The OS Golfer's Thread!
The main thing I'm going to focus on is ball position. I think I've had the ball too far back in my stance and you have to be real precise. I like what this Jim guy says about finding the natural low point of the swing.
A couple things though I noticed in his videos is that he really never tells you how to swing. He just swings. So basically where all the focus in conventional swing method is about movements during the swing, Jim's method is about anchoring the set up position and swinging inside by way of closed shoulders.
If you think about it, the position most good conventional (2 plane) players are as they start their downswing, is the same as what Jim's swing does in full. Back faces target, inside/shallow approach to ball, weight shifting to left (Jim's style - weight is already on left side).
Also, within his school there are multiple videos that show all sorts of shots. I told him about this thread and he may bump in to answer any questions. The guy is really one of the most genuine you will meet. I sent in my video to be analyzed this morning, and he already got it back to me. It's one I"ll have on my blog/vlog as well, because it is a gamechanger for me.Last edited by Matt10; 06-02-2016, 03:31 PM.Comment
