We'll see.... funny how the Blu Ray players require it though.

I'm not bashing Sony, but I don't believe anything they say until it's in my hands and works.

I remember when DVD was about to become a standard and they all talked about the advanced anti-piracy features. Hollywood had to be on board of course. And look, of course they found a way around it. They'll do it again with Blu-Ray. They always do.

Also theres a little factor you guys are forgetting about soccer moms/grand parents etc... If little Billy tells mom/grandma he wants a PS3 for Christmas, and mom/grandma brings home a Rev/360...You better believe that mom/grandma will be back at the store getting little Billy what he wants.

Alot of these parents go to gamestores based on what they hear from their kids directly/in-directly...Price isn't always an issue, if it were Gamecube would have blown PS2/Xbox out of the water...In the end these soccer moms and gran parents aim to please their kids/gran kids and if that means spending more they'll do it.
Wow, not in my household and I don't know any other parents that would "give in" or "spoil" little Billy.

I truly believe the soccer mom and dads will wait for the price to drop, or by them a less expensive option.

In this household of three children, it's the best bang for the buck. That's a decision for the parents to make, not Billy.

HDMI is a technology used to view HD content. Similar to the technolgy that uses Monster Cables.
Most HD TV's have both connections to choose from. HDMI is the better of the two.

HDMI can also carry audio signals, which eliminates having to buy a seperate cable for audio.

I don't understand HDMI hook-ups. I Have a DVI video to TV and an optical sound cord to my 5.1 reciever. If HDMI carries both signals, how do you get 5.1 digital sound from your TV to your audio reciever?

You can't unless you're TV has an HDMI output.

It's easier to see on fixed pixel displays, for most people, there is no difference. I know I can't really see one either.

                                Don't shoot the messanger...

Sony rep says PS3 will have hard drive as standard (3/17 article)

Our Sony representative has confirmed this morning that PlayStation 3 will come with a 60GB HDD as standard, but that can be upgraded if preferred.

Some of the larger US websites have been speculating that PlayStation 3 would be shipping with an optional 60GB hard disc drive. However we can confirm this morning that all PS3 consoles will be sold with the HDD out of the box. Sony's president of Computer Entertainment, Ken Kutaragi, announced on Wednesday that all PS3 games are being developed to take advantage of the 60GB HDD.

Another essential use for the HDD will be Sony's online service, which will offer downloads in a similar way to Microsoft's Xbox Live platform. Clearly now it is Sony's intention to standardise the PlayStation 3 community, so that all developers know that everybody who owns PS3 will benefit from HDD-related features in-game. Bizarrely this used to be Microsoft's standpoint with its original Xbox, but the Redmond corporation has since taken an about turn with Xbox 360.
