Re: Grand Theft Auto V
But, it is ridiculous. This re-remaster is solely to keep GTA Online as revelant for as long as possible. If it is a free upgrade, then yeah I'll likely play it since it'll be like 2-3 years since I last played it. But, I have to be blown away because I can still remember the game like I just got done playing it. This is something you could have done like with GoW, The Last of Us 2, and GoT which was release a Performance Patch that takes advantage of Game Boost. Outside of additional story content and more stuff on screen, most of what they probably will do could be done with a Performance Patch. This re-remaster feels like one of the common cash grabs just to continue to outmilk the same cow.
We're talking like maybe 2023 for GTA 6. That's 10 year since GTA 5. In those 10 years, if all we gotten from Rockstar was two Remasters and RDR2, that would be disappointing. I honestly want to see a different IP before GTA 6. From 2005-2013, Rockstar had the GTA San Andreas, Bully, MNC 3, Warriors, Liberty City Stories, Vice City Stories, Manhunt 2, GTA IV, MNC:LA, two GTA IV DLCs, RDR, LA Noire, Max Payne 3, and GTA V. From 2014-2021, Rockstar released GTA V remaster(Including Online) and RDR2. You can even go back to 1999. From 1999-2013, they essentially released something new every year. To from 2014-2021, just a remaster, RDR2, and Online. I just want them to go back to their roots. I know in today's time, it is hard to pump out different IPs every year. But, at least get back to a every other year with something new.Comment

Re: Grand Theft Auto V
I know Rockstar is one of the studios that have had pieces written about them having terrible workplace practices and bad crunch time. From what I've read they have taken a lot of initiative to improve the workplace for developers. The article on Kotaku was by Jason "buy my book" Schreier but I think the culture shift has a lot to do with why they aren't pumping games out so fast. IMO the fact that GTA Online is so popular and prints money buys them the ability to take more time developing the next game. There's really no big financial urgency to get the next game out from what I can see.
I hope we get some sort of announcement sometime this year but it will probably be next year. I've got other games to play but I really like the GTA series a lot and would at least like to hear something about the next one.Comment

GTA typically starts announcements almost two years out. So it would be nice to see at least an announcement.
I rather see them go back to a mix of GTA IV and San Andreas & Vice City type of Campaign. I didn't hate the GTA V story, but it felt too Reality TV-ish. I like the serious dark tone of GTA IV and did a good job of setting of VC and SA. They hit most of the time periods with VC and SA detailing the 80s and 90s and GTA 3, IV, and V detailing modern era. So unless they go towards the 70s, I see another modern era gameComment

Re: Grand Theft Auto V
I'm a fan of the longer campaigns, personally.
I just hope not everything is unlocked from the start this time. There is a certain joy and reward to progressing as you go personally, for me at least. I was really good at refraining from seeing certain parts of the map in RDR 2 until the story brought me there, so maybe even if it's not unlocked I can do that for the next GTA myself. But if they restrict me, I'll be okay with that.
I know that's probably not a popular opinion. I just didn't like feeling like I already saw everything after playing GTA V the first 24 hours, because I already like stole a plane, climbed Mt. Chiliad, etc.Samsung PN60F8500 PDP / Anthem MRX 720 / Klipsch RC-62 II / Klipsch RF-82 II (x2) / Insignia NS-B2111 (x2) / SVS PC13-Ultra / SVS SB-2000 / Sony MDR-7506 Professional / Audio-Technica ATH-R70x / Sony PS3 & PS4 / DirecTV HR44-500 / DarbeeVision DVP-5000 / Panamax M5400-PM / Elgato HD60Comment

I liked how in GTA 3, SA, VC, and GTA IV how you had to unlock areas as story progressed. I don't really explore as I'm playing a story. I typically jump into the game and immediately go into the story and don't do extra. I usually try to finish campaigns as fast as possible and move onto next game. I don't take my time and explore until my second play though. But I do like the idea of unlocking areas. Like in GTA 3 where "bridges got finished", GTA VC when "hurricane/storm passed", and SA where you woke up in the mountains then progressed to other areas.Comment

Re: Grand Theft Auto V
I hear you, but after this long a wait id definitely be disappointed with a short story lol. If they went back to multiple releases per generation I could get behind a shorter game

Re: Grand Theft Auto V
That's what I want if it is a shorter story. I definitely want more releases. Not the yearly release type or even the GTA 3, SA, and VC type where it is 3 releases in 4 years. But, would love a biannual release. Did anyone complain and say that GTA 3, VC, and SA felt like the same game. They didn't feel like the same game reskinned. As long as they change the location, story, and atmosphere, it won't feel like the same game. They could use same assets and engine and just switch up location and story. I would love a 2023, 25, and 27 release where it uses same assets/engines and just changing time setting and locations like in the PS2 era.Comment

Re: Grand Theft Auto V
I wouldn't have complained if we had received GTA VI 4 years later and it looked and played very similarly in a new location/era with some new unique features added. GTA's style of gameplay is naturally fun and doesn't need to be reinvented and see innovations constantly. I just want new locations, eras, stories, characters, etc. The graphics, mechanics, and little details will all naturally progress over time.
I don't want to wait 10+ years between releases so we can get little details like horse testicle shrinkage in cold weather like we get in Red Dead Redemption 2. I'd rather have 3 GTA's in a 10 year span where the graphics improve slightly each release and there are a few more little details added each release, but the big changes are all related to the era, location, story, etc. just like we got with III to VC to SA.“No one is more hated than he who speaks the truth.”

Re: Grand Theft Auto V
I don't know, I think they still have a long way to go. Their gameplay mechanics have a lot of sluggish components. Hand and weapon combat isn't quite refined, AI (including police) could be completely revamped, and I really wish they could make a lot more accessible interiors / if they have countryside make everything as interesting as RDR 2 was (I literally felt like every step out there I could've discovered something new, whereas GTA had pretty much nothing).
Best video game franchise ever because of its sandbox elements, but I'd like to see these years have taken many strides in simply improving... and not online.Samsung PN60F8500 PDP / Anthem MRX 720 / Klipsch RC-62 II / Klipsch RF-82 II (x2) / Insignia NS-B2111 (x2) / SVS PC13-Ultra / SVS SB-2000 / Sony MDR-7506 Professional / Audio-Technica ATH-R70x / Sony PS3 & PS4 / DirecTV HR44-500 / DarbeeVision DVP-5000 / Panamax M5400-PM / Elgato HD60Comment

I do think that since GTA VI is going to built with these new consoles in mind, that it should be leaps and bounds above GTA V. Like I said, GTA V is essentially two generations behind now. The upcoming re-remaster is going to try to take advantage of new consoles hardware, but at heart it's a 7th gen game.
I would want them to use the same assets/engines kf it is like a GTA 3-SA situation. Where you have 3 releases in 4 years all in the same generation. I always want a game to feel as up to date as possible
I can see then giving a clip of the Re-remaster during their E3 timeLast edited by illwill10; 05-26-2021, 09:55 AM.Comment

I wish I could say I had the discipline to not explore GTA V's map right away but I didn't. I sort of learned my lesson by the time RDR II came out but I'm not at all adverse to slowly unlocking the map as the game progresses. Tough to beat that sense of discovery when a new area opens up (say, entering Mexico for the first time in RDR).
I'm another who'd love a longer single player campaign, too. I love just having things to do, whether it directly relates to the storyline or serves as extras to stumble upon, accomplish, and/or discover. RDR II hit that tone perfectly for me. Even after the storyline, the amount of nooks and crannies (and the things to be discovered in those nooks and crannies) was off the charts.Comment

Fully echoed, particularly the bold.

With what the new consoles and Rockstar are capable of, I do see a lot of nooks and crannies. I can see most if not all buildings accessible because the memory constraints of what GTA V were build on(7th gen) are drastically better. More NPCs and stuff happening on screen with less static more dynamic interactions.
I wouldn't mind them making GTA Online a fully standalone. They could make it FTP and they still roll in the dough with GTA Online alone. That way they could separate resources towards each. I'm surprised they made a single player DLC like what you saw the other GTA titles. They usually did it with side characters. They're were plenty of side characters they could've done a 3-5 hour DLC withComment
