Probably because you're at least maintaining muscle mass instead of losing it while doing cardio-only.

Re: Weight Loss - Tips & Daily Check-in

ODogg - Let me make a suggestion to you based on my experience. Stop counting calories. Let me give you a super simple setup. Try it for a couple weeks and see how you feel.

      - Don't count calories - Calories CAN be important, but they can actually confuse the issue.

      - Protein - Try to eat one gram of protein for every pound of your weight everyday. It seems like a lot some days, but protein is SOOOOO important, especially when you're working out. In fact, you should be eating (or drinking) protein within 14 minutes of any work out.

      - Fat - 30-40 grams per day MAX. I don't like a bunch of those fat free foods with all of the additives, but watch the fat.

      - Carbs - Biggest factor. Keep your carbs under 100g (maybe 120 if you have to) per day. One of the biggest mistakes people make is assuming that eating a bunch of fruit is a good diet. Some fruit is super high in carbs and they add up quick.

      - Multi-Vitamin - If you're not taking one...start.

      - Cardio - Limit it to 20 minutes at a time. Make it intense, but 20 great minutes is actually better for you than 60.

      - Powerlifting/Functional Strength - Do some research on it. Squats, deadlifts, friction sleds. Building strength takes weight off of you. It's shocking how well it works.

      - Health/Technique - Can't train if you're injured, so learn good technique. It's better to do less weight and reps correctly than garbage sets.

I'll check in on here or shoot me a PM, I'd be happy to give you tips and ideas on things that worked for me.

      Good luck.

Yeah when starting a new exercise regimen you tend to lose fat and gain muscle whih pretty much cancel each other out.

I've heard a few people say, Dr Oz and Bob Harper from The Biggest Loser in particular, that you shouldn't necessarily go by what the scale says, you go by how your clothes fit. You might not see significant weight loss but more muscle and smaller pant sizes.

The scale is the worst enemy. Lost inches on your body is huge. In the last 15 weeks, I lost almost 50" in major areas (waist, neck, shoulders, thighs, etc.) In 15 weeks I went from 38x32 jeans to 33x32.

Getting your A/C fixed was the problem. If you would have let it slide you would have sweat it off by now.

Like others have said, don't go by scale alone. Since muscle is more dense then fat, you will look smaller after losing 5 lbs of fat but gaining 5 lbs of muscle even though the scale remains unchanged.

What you really need is a body fat % scale, not just a weight scale. That way, you can monitor yourself more accurately. I mean losing 2-3% bodyfat a week is much more important then the your weight going down a few digits on the scale.

An update on my progress. I weighed in at 335.8 this morning for my official Tuesday weigh in. That makes it 22 pounds lost in 7 weeks. Shirts from Christmas that didn't fit now fit! I've done this while still going out here and there for drinks and going to weddings and picnics. Those days I just eat 1 meal of whatever I want and it seems to work. I'm still following weight watchers and it is doing the trick. I feel fuller now even when I am eating less.

My wife hit the 20 pound mark this week as well. I can't wait, she has 13 more to go until she hits her second goal and we get to eat at Olive Garden!
