    Re: 2012 FITNESS CHALLENGE

So, the past 18 months (starting Feb/March 2011) I've gone from ~230 to ~185lbs. I've dropped shirt sizes from XXL to a medium and 40 to 34 waist.

I hate spending money, but its nice to have clothes that fit now lol.

That's why I don't get rid of clothes as I grow older

I've never been this small. Even in middle school I was wearing size L shirts IIRC.

Seriously I look gangsta in all my clothes now. I want to buy more clothes but saving up for a big move.

I told myself I would buy new clothes as soon as I hit 210 pounds and I'm now at 238. Started from 305 in Janurary and my goal is to get under 200 by the end of the year but its pushing it.

            Dude, that's bad-***.

Meanwhile, I'm here trying to gain weight. Seven weeks ago, I was 155 lbs. The problem is that I want to keep the cardio in. The other issue is that I used to have a bunch of fast food (pizza, In-N-Out Burger, ice cream milkshakes every night, etc.) and now I'm eating significantly healthier. I wouldn't say that I'm dieting in any way really, but my food intake contains much less fat than it used to.

In about seven weeks, I've gained five pounds to 160 lbs. Hopefully, in spite of all of this, it just means that I have reduced a lot of my body fat in general, even though I'm not putting on that much weight in general.

Can anyone recommend a workout that can be done completely in about 25-30 minutes?

I am either commuting or at work for 11 hours a day so by the time I get home I'm exhausted. I joined an LA Fitness that is right across the street and work out on my lunch. It takes me about 10 minutes from the time I leave the office and am dressed ready to workout. Then probably 15-20 to cool down, shower and get back. So I have about 25-30 minutes to actually workout. I'm not trying to really lose weight or gain muscle. Just want to get the blood pumping because I sit most of the day.

Starting Insanity today. Gonna do the body shots/measurements when I get home and do the Fit Test. I don't expect it to be too intimidating since I've been doing the Fast & Furious DVD, but nonetheless I'm looking forward to it. I doubt I'll change my diet much since I've already been incorporating a lot of their nutrition guide (namely the meal breakdowns) into my diet the past 6 weeks or so.

So my brother in law just completed the Spartan Beast race in Vermont a couple weeks ago. He's now addicted to these races, and has basically told me that he's gonna make me run the Tough Mudder in May 2013 with him in Massachusetts.

So I started doing some hardcore training today to get in the best shape of my life. I've got 8 months. I've been steadily working out for a few months, so i'm already off to a good start. Ran a couple miles today, did a pushup/towel pullup pyramid, then did a sledgehammer pyramid with a tire (20 swings from the right, 19 from the left, etc. down to 1).

Definitely feeling it right now. Hell of a workout, and i'm excited as hell to participate in the Tough Mudder. Plus, a percentage of the registration goes toward the Wounded Warrior Project, so it's a hell of a good cause to race for. Can't wait!

You can do it man. Had some buddies and my Dr have done it and all I get is how rewarding and fun it is to complete

That's why I did the Tough Mudder event in Pennsylvania several months ago.
                          Get ready for hell.
Then you get to run the race.

Yeah. I've watched a few of the promo vids, and the eyecandy will make it difficult to concentrate.

I'm pretty excited. I know it's 8 months away, but that gives me plenty of time to take that next step in my fitness.

Sucks to hear about your shoulder too man. I imagine the course is grueling enough if you're healthy, let alone nursing an injury.

If I can give you one piece of advice.
Don't JUST run....***n while carrying....doing something else...make it incredible bursts of VERY difficult cardio.
                                Run wet and cold.
It saps your energy, but the day of the race is not the time to get what it feels like.

The shoulder has been like that for 25 years now....always pops out if I have my arm extended fully and put pressure on it or it gets jolted in that position.
It pops back in...and I'm used to it....but it does limit what you can do.

If you can get a partner to run with....***n with a medicine ball and alternate tossing it above your head......tossing it back and forth....rolling it and picking it up while running.
