I've had a few tips from some guys before, but none were trying to be know it alls. Some people can rub you the wrong way, with the way they talk to you.

We had a Sgt. from the Army at our gym and he was a complete jackass. His Navy buddy was really cool, but the army guy taught the kickboxing classes, so he really did act as if he knew everything. I was glad when he went to a diff. gym.

If I ever have a question, I ask the gym owner/doctor. He lifted competitively for years and did a bunch of bodybuilding contest. We have some knowledgeable people in our gym + they have their own store. Their products are so much cheaper than GNC.

            Re: 2012 FITNESS CHALLENGE

I last went to the gym a couple of days ago, and saw one of my softball players doing weights with a trainer. I thought that was pretty cool. I didn't make myself known to her, but her dad saw me, so he probably mentioned to her that I was there.

Also last time, I was in a situation where I had to tell somebody to get off a bike, but I never did. Not because he wasn't doing it right, but because he wasn't doing it. He was sitting on it like a chair, talking to the girl next to him who was actually doing the bike. I found another bike that worked the quads more, but it wasn't exactly the one I was looking for. Nevertheless, I didn't want to cause a stir in the gym, so I just let it go.

By the way, I used to make chocolate milkshakes at night like clockwork. That is, Breyers vanilla ice cream, Hershey's chocolate syrup, and 1% milk. Now, I have it like once every three nights, and before bed I have a casein protein shake regularly. Is there any possible advantage for me to still have milkshakes? I know it's a little more dairy, but is the sugar just killing anything and everything I worked on earlier in the day? Or is some sugar good for you for energy?

              Hate that ****.

There's a guy at my gym who constantly uses benches just to leave his gym bag on. Or sometimes he'll hang his weight belt on one of the bars at the bench press. Sometimes you see people do this who are trying to use multiple machines/areas at once. But this dude will never use the machine or bench that he throws his **** on. He'll just leave his stuff on a bench for his entire workout, as he moves throughout the gym. I have no idea what purpose this serves.

I'm glad my current gym isn't like that at all. I hated my old gym. There were douche bags everywhere. My current gym is very laid back and its rare that I go in and there be more than 5 people. I really enjoy that a lot. I never have to wait for anything.

My gym is like a country club. It's worth paying double ($50 a month) than other gyms not having to wait for machines and what you get with the membership. If you have a Lifetime Fitness in your area you have to check it out. Huge area for machines, rarely have to wait for any machine or weights, 3 studios for yoga/aerobic/spin class, two olympics size pools one inside and out with slides, two basketball courts, 3 raquetball courts, eucalyptus steam room, spa, salon/massage, restaraunt, rock climbing and daycare

                  Todays workout (back)

5x10 Deadlift, 5x20 shrugs, 5x15 rowing pulls, 5x15 lower back press (not sure what the name of it but you sit up and laydown pushing the weight behind your upper back)

Lower abs, 3 different exercises 3 sets 20 reps

                  60 minutes of vinyasa yoga

                  20 miles stationary bike.

Not there yet, I tried lol. I can do the leg lifts but can only go above parallel for now. I'm sure when I get in better shape I can up to that difficulty

I was a member of Lifetime a couple years ago... I absolutely loved it. The problem was I loved it TOO much. It's about 20 minutes from my house, and I was going every day. Which, of course, started cutting into my gas. But I loved it. It was open 24/7, so I loved going there on a Saturday night, getting in a lifting session with ALL the weights to myself, then going to shoot baskets in the gym, and finishing off with swimming for my cardio... We had a special through my job for $60/month membership. I was actuallly considering getting a membership for myself and my oldest son, since he's 12 now and is looking to join me at the gym to lift and shoot baskets. At his age, not all of the gyms around here are willing to let him in. Lifetime is willing to do so, but I can't get my mind past $120/mo for two memberships.

When I was still staying in Hoover, there were nice gyms like that everywhere. My gym now just has weights and machines + tanning beds and a steam room. I only use the weights and machines, really..

You can always progress by hanging in the same position and lifting your knees to your chest (knee ups/hanging knees).

So, I'm currently down 42lbs since January. I'm a month into boxing and have just applied to go back to college, plan on walking onto the football team and possibly the wrestling and track teams as well.
