    Re: 2012 FITNESS CHALLENGE

Hmm... so the bottom line about vitamins/micronutrients is all about personal preference?

I'll stick to my multi-vitamins, I've already seen a "discernible difference" in having more energy and better recovery since taking them. Not to mention in the long-run I'd rather hedge my bets on multi-vitamins helping my immune system and try to prevent certain things, then to rely on prescription drugs and uncertain treatment. Between "pissing my money in a toilet" and the possibility of having a serious chronic disease later in life because of the lack of vitamins, I'd rather choose the former.

Maybe I have a different view after studying a bit on nutrition back in college and seeing certain documentaries. Nothing is certain and of course I'm not an expert in nutrition, but in the end I'll take what works for me.

Some studies show they can contribute to an increased risk of cancer as well...so yeah there's also that to look forward to. Of course, everything can be linked to causing cancer these days cant it?

I also disagree with you completely on your energy/recovery comment. Placebo effect.

True. I'm tired of reading contradictory reports and studies, you either take the time to learn about things yourself or accept that certain things are too complicated and that you can't pinpoint one factor.

As for the second part, I can see where you are coming from. For the record, I can't get all my micronutrients through my diet or else I wouldn't be able to cut weight, so I use the MVs to supplement what I can't get. I probably did have a vitamin deficiency before I started to use MVs.

Simply put, if I were able to increase my caloric intake and eat more foods and get meet my micronutrient needs, I'd probably see the same effect. So there's that as well.

In the end, MVs are a decent supplement if you need them, but they aren't necessary.

If you're eating a lot (not just calories, vegetables I believe aren't that calorie dense anyways), you probably won't have to worry about taking multi-vitamins.

Took a week off in the Cayman Islands, did this one today to shock the system and get back into the groove:

          -30 handstand pushups
          -30 overhead squats (95#)
          -30 squat jumps
-30 muscle ups on the gymnastics rings
          -30 situps on the GHD
          -30 deadlifts (225#)
          -30 chest to bar pullups
          -30 power cleans (155#)
          -30 burpees
          -30 kettle bell swings (70#)

completed in 21:39. Legs were quivering...

so, apparently Jack3d doesn't react well, to being left in a hot car all day.

            It's like one solid block.

I've got to strengthen my left wrist up.

I fell down playing flag football, about three months ago and bent it back. Now, periodically It starts to hurt. I've been doing a little P90 to get some different ideas for working triceps at home, since I can only make it to the gym about 3 days a week, right now..

I tried doing some simple push ups and I can't put any weight on my left wrist without it hurting.

I really wish I could find a gym that'd allow me to do power cleans, most don't seem to allow it and that was my favorite football workout for some reason.

Odd. I've heard of some college/high school gyms restricting certain lifts, but not a paid membership gym. I know when I signed up, I signed a waiver basically saying that I'm responsible for those sorts of things.

My gym MIGHT restrict the use of chalk, which is fine. I've seen the end result of someone a bit overzealous with it in the locker rooms a few times...chalk everywhere. Just a mess.

Yea, my wife's CrossFit gym has a "punishment" for chalk whoring. Me being the husband/maintenance man.....I usually end up having to clean that mess up, so I'm one of the strictest enforcers of this policy when I'm around

I'll have to look into it, but odds are I'll just wait until I finish college to join another gym as my tuition covers the gym at FSU.

Been at it for about a month a half.

                            M/W/F: Pull-Ups (2x failure), Push-Ups (3x failure), Abs. (Elbow Plank, 2x 30 seconds. Side Plank, 2x 30 seconds both sides.

                            T/Thu: 2 mile run, or 10 50 yard sprints with a parachute.

Absolutely sucks not having a gym at home. Planet Fitness is not worth it for me since im only home 3 months out of the year.

I maybe over doing it but I been feeling great and not been tired these past 10 days. I have not missed a day working out yet. I do some exercises spread out throughout the day on the weekends. Also going lighter weight and more reps for the next 6 weeks.

When I do elliptical I start off a slow pace at my fat burning bpm at 130 bpm for 15 minutes, then I go hard 15 minutes going up to 150-170 bpm, then the next 15 i slow down and try to get back to 130 but usually at 140 bpm then go hard again for 15 minutes then 10 minute cool down. Also wearing a sauna suit while doing it.

Sunday - 1 hour of regular paced yoga, 70 minutes elliptical.
4 bicep exercises with dumbbells 4 sets, 10 reps. I do various levels, incline, sit up, facing the the incline bench doing curls and stand up hammer curls.

Monday - 1 hour of slow pace yoga where you hold poses

Tuesday - 5 sets of regular bench 10 reps each. 5 sets on incline or decline 15 reps each, tricep exercise 5x15, shoulder press 5x15. 3 upper ad exercises 3 sets 15 reps each. 70 minutes elliptical

Wednesday - 1 hour casual raquetball keeping my heartrate at 120 to 140 bpm, 1 hour of fast paced hot yoga

Thursday - 5x10 dead lift, 5x15 rowing or lat pull, 5x15 lower back exercise, 5x15 upperback exercise. 3 lower ab exercises 3x15, 70 minutes elliptical

Friday - 1 hour of Hot Yoga (when its labeled hot, they put the room at 95 degrees)

Saturday - 5x10 squats, 5x15 leg presses or leg extensions, 5x15 calf raises, 5x15 hamstring exercise, 3 oblique exercises 3x15, 70 minutes elliptical

I feel I'm getting good rest of two of the days where I just do yoga and I haven't felt tired so I going to listen to my body until it curses me out.
