    Re: 2012 FITNESS CHALLENGE

I only got to the gym twice this week due to car problems.

Legs are still sore from monday and probably went too hard on the chest on Friday. Sitting here and my pec muscle twitches every few minutes

As far as effort, it takes a total of 15 minutes to juice, drink it and clean it up. It does get expensive but I think of it as an investment to my overall health. Plus I get this immense energy from it and my skin has never been better.

A draw back from juicing is that you lose the fiber from the vegetables. I do add fiber to my drinks sometimes but I take in a lot of fiber anyway from beans, oatmeal and fruit I eat throughout the day.

I also limit fruit that I juice too because of the sugar content. What I usually juice is the following

      6 kale leaves
      2 cups of full spinach
      2 cucumbers
      1 stock of broccili
      half cucumber
      half lemon
      1 granny apple.
      2 sticks of celery

I do this when I get up in the morning. I usually don't eat, but if I do I'll have a half cup of oatmeal. It does get expensive but I look at it as an investment to my health and to be honest, nothing beats feeling good and energetic naturally.
You juice ALL of that every morning? I never, ever thought that I would consider something like that, but you're doing a darn good job of selling it lol.

I made a mistake, i don't use 2 cucumbers, just half of one but yes that's what I do pretty much every morning, sometimes I won't have broccoli. I also added flax seed oil to it to get all the omega 3 and good fats in it.

I think of it as the closest thing we have to drinking the fountain of youth. Ask yourself, "why I'm I afraid of food that will make me healthier, feel better, look better and make me live longer?"

Why aren't we afraid of food that poisons us, makes us fatter, causes heart disease, cancer and many other health problems? And we know it does but we as Americans keep eating junk.

To me, taste of the food is not worth all that. Talk to someone who is blind or their foot was cutoff because of diabetes. It'll wake you up. It's because of the way they ate their whole lives.

Eating badly is a drug. I can't explain it better than that. The way someone fiends for junk food is no different from a crack addict looking for their fix. My advice is to go to a jamba juice or a place you can get juice and try it for a week.

How are you doing with meat cravings? I probably should watch forks over knives or read the book to recommit. It seems like as long as I eat meals throughout the day I am fine, but on occassion I will wake up late for work, have my 11 hour shift, and by the time I get off I haven't had anything substantial all day and o end up with a burger.

Also, I would reccomend the nutritional book vegan for life. They back everything up with studies and take a more pragmatic approach than many vegan proponents I am familiar with.

And that is a good idea to stop by jamba a few times. I was worried about spending money on q juicer only to not like it.

Be always prepared with food. I always have some sort of nuts or trail mix at work. I also have a tub of Vega protein at work. If I'm out I'll get a bean salad or burrito.

I been to chipotle a lot haha. Also go out to Asian food spots since they are vegetarian friendly. Pretty much get tofu with whatever I'm getting.

              Re: 2012 FITNESS CHALLENGE

I did a mud run over the weekend.

It was not the crazy Tough Mudder but the less insane Rugged Maniac.

              3.2 miles.

I didn't do it for time, as we wanted to finish as one and my friends cousin was really giving out.

We ended up finishing in an hour, but I could have easily gone through in 33 or so minutes.

Quickest time was 22 minutes, not bad not bad.

Tough Mudder will be in the same area with crazy obstacles in October and it is 12 miles. I am thinking about it but it would take serious preparation for it.

That's awesome (mud run)! My wife's CrossFit is teaming with Spartan Race and Parcour for an adventure race/triathlon in October. It's gonna be a straight up 5K, standup paddling, and an obstacle course. Should be interesting considering the parties involved

DO IT! I did PA#2 this season and it was an awesome experience. Failed miserably on the monkey bars and olympic rings but otherwise got through it OK.

I had a blast doing this, short 5K as well.

I was actually in the Poconos when that was going on, at least I think. Was it around May 12th or so? I believe they had people park at the raceway. The hotel I stayed in had a bunch of runners staying there. I'm thinking about it. It is a lot more than the Rugged Maniac was but also more brutal.

I would have to cut 10-15LBs to be able to do it.

Yes that was it. It's a lot of teamwork - everyone out there is helping everyone else. I kind of figured I was falling off the monkey bars - there's no teamwork for that obstacle. I was more worried about the Berlin Walls and the halfpipe, but was able to get past both with some help. Other than those 3-4 obstacles, the rest are mentally tougher than physically. And yes, 12 miles sucks...so be prepared for that too

Everything I read about the PA Tough Mudder said 11 miles. So the whole second half, every time we'd pass a mile marker I'd say "only 5 more miles for a headband and a beer", "only 4 more miles...", "only 3 more miles..."

So we hit the 11 mile marker and we are in the middle of friggin' nowhere in the woods. No headbands, no crowds, no beer! Talk about blue-balls

Getting my mountain bike out of the shop, today... time to find some alternate ways to get excercise.

I haven't been in the gym much, recently. My new work sched. hasn't been making it any easier. I'm debating on just getting a few more free weights, a short bar, a flat bench and working out at home for a few weeks.

If you can afford it, that is the best way to go IMO.

Sometimes it's really inconvenient to make it out to the gym every other night, and nothing beats working out with the comfort and privacy of being in your own home.

You might still want to get out to the gym on weekends, or when spare time opens up but working out at Home has made my life a lot easier especially when I need to fit in a work out, in between Work, travels, family time.

Yeah, I've been the past two days to get my chest/tris and back/bis in along with some cardio and abs, but generally speaking, I haven't been in as much.

Thankfully my muscle memory is pretty solid. I got back in and put up the same weight on everything I did..
