Guys, I have fallen off the wagon.
I've been having to spend more time around my house, because my parents were out of town. Then I spent last weekend celebrating the 4th and I've been working til 8pm this week, except for the 4th.
I know it sounds like a bunch of excuses, but its just been a tiring past week or two. I will probably be busy this weekend too. I vow by Monday to be back in hitting the weights.

but naw jk.. I wouldn't say you necessarily fell off the fitness wagon completely, I would say you are just taking a break to let your body fully, rest and recover, enjoy yourself for a bit, and are getting caught up with work.
It's good to take little breaks every so often, as long as you're ready to go when you get back to your exercises. Now if you were to take a month off and start eating Ice Cream, Donuts, and Pizza everyday that would be "falling off" completely.Minnesota Vikings

Re: 2012 FITNESS CHALLENGE
So last time I updated was way back when in January. I'm still chugging along and I have a few updates.
I learned something cool, that apparently if you weigh yourself on a scale you should put it on tile/a hard surface, not carpet. I used to weigh myself on carpet so that added about 5 lbs on the scale.
That means back in January I was more like 175 lbs, but now I am up to 182-183 lbs. Not great progress but considering how bad my shoulder is it's actually pretty good.
Because I am pretty hard headed and I absolutely love baseball, I ignore the pain in my right shoulder a lot. This messes up my lifting progress pretty bad. I've had to take weeks off at a time or skip lifting days because my shoulder is pretty bad. I'll be going to the doctor for it once my baseball season ends in mid-late august, but until then the damage is already done and I doubt I can do much more to it (and if I do, that's all on me which I can accept).
Not really important but I did find out I am most likely 6'3 not 6'2 like I previously thought. My brother was measured at 6'1 his doctors visit last week, and I'm a solid 2 inches taller than him. I guess I'll find out for sure when I go in for my shoulder.
Recently I got a summer job that starts early in the morning around 5am so I can't workout at my regular 8am. I believe this was a blessing in disguise for my lifting because ever since I've been working out at 1pm I've been having great workouts again. Again it comes back to my shoulder, and my shoulder always feels like crap in the morning but as the day goes on it usually feels better.
So while my progress hasn't been amazing, I'm happy with it. Being able to play baseball is worth a slip in progress for right now.Comment

Re: 2012 FITNESS CHALLENGE
Took the next step in my health and I've taken all meat including fish, eggs and dairy out of my diet the last two weeks. I thought by doing this I would take a hit in my weight lifting but I actually got stronger. I'm going to continue and see if I can make this permanent.
I do feel great actually. I thought I would get weaker but everyday I feel like I'm getting stronger and more in tuned with my body.Comment

Re: 2012 FITNESS CHALLENGE
Being 18 years old Im still young but I encourage everyone to get to the gym and start a workout as well as eating healthier. This has changed my life.... Im 6'2 (roughly) and started working out seriously in April this year. I weighed 128lbs then and now I am up to about 146lbs (fluctuating +/- 1-2 lbs). Currently I am doing a six week workout called "Blood and Guts" by Dorian Yates- great workout; seeing a LOT of improvement. As for supplements I take Titan by Complete Nutrition as well as a multivitamin and I use Buzzerk as a pre-workoutXO GT: TDavis45

Re: 2012 FITNESS CHALLENGE
Most Mornings: Green juice: kale/spinach/lemon/granny apple/cucumber/broccili and I'll put in a table spoon of flaxseed oil or have a bowl of oatmeal with a bananna
a couple hours after that I'll take a Vega shake, either my meal shake or protein enhancer Vega Shake
Snack: Almonds, Cashews, trail mix or sun flower seeds. (no salt added) A piece of fruit; apple, peach, pear, grapes whatever fruit basically.
Lunch: Black been burrito with veggies, black been soup or a been salad. If I don't have beans, i'll have a salad and my Vega shake.
Snack: shake or nuts with fruit again
Dinner: I've had tofu stir fry, tofu with rice noodles, black bean burrito or salad. I'll eat a big salad usually with spinach, tomatoes too. I'll also have different types of soups like tomato soup, black bean soup.
I also eat mexican food like tortilla with beans, rice, salad and pico is something I always get. I also tend to eat asian food since a lot of dishes are vegetarian friendly.
I'm still new at doing this but that's pretty much what I've been eating. I also take multi vitamins twice a day, CLA x 3, green tea extract x2 aminino acids, l carnitine, l glutamine, and protein shakes as supplements too.
I'm actually never really hungry too since the foods I eat have a ton of fiber and I eat like every 2 to 3 hours. On my work out days, I add two more servings of protein shakes.
What made me decide to go this way is I saw a documentary called Forks Over Knives on netflix. I suggest watching it and it will give you some motivation to try it. I got into juicing when I saw Fat, Sick and Nearly Dead also netflix.
I thought hey, if I'm going to do this, I'm going 100%. If I do that then I don't think I can fail and be able to drop medications I've been taking for years.
I also realize, why be afraid of food or not eating healthy. We should all fear of getting a disease, being unhealthy and dying early or paying crazy amounts for medications and surgeries.Comment

Re: 2012 FITNESS CHALLENGE
I got back into the swing of things, today.
The week off wouldn't have been so bad, but intertubing on the lake this past weekend really kicked my ***.. It's nice to get that "swole" feeling back again. I could literally feel myself losing muscle over the past week.Comment

Re: 2012 FITNESS CHALLENGE
I started lifting 3 months ago this week. I was barely benching 125 5 times had to jump down to 105 on some sets, now I'm at 205 regularly and maxing at 225. With this rate I'm gonna hit 300 on my next 4 months.Comment

I have been experimenting with veganism with moderate success as well. I have not gotten into green juices though, would you recommend utilizing them? It just seems like a ton of effort when I could have instant oatmeal, cereal with soy milk, or even a smoothie.

As far as effort, it takes a total of 15 minutes to juice, drink it and clean it up. It does get expensive but I think of it as an investment to my overall health. Plus I get this immense energy from it and my skin has never been better.
A draw back from juicing is that you lose the fiber from the vegetables. I do add fiber to my drinks sometimes but I take in a lot of fiber anyway from beans, oatmeal and fruit I eat throughout the day.
I also limit fruit that I juice too because of the sugar content. What I usually juice is the following
6 kale leaves
2 cups of full spinach
1 stock of broccili
half cucumber
half lemon
1 granny apple.
2 sticks of celery
I do this when I get up in the morning. I usually don't eat, but if I do I'll have a half cup of oatmeal. It does get expensive but I look at it as an investment to my health and to be honest, nothing beats feeling good and energetic naturally.Last edited by RockinDaMike; 07-15-2012, 04:34 AM.Comment
