Don't sleep on a great diet/nutritional plan and simple push ups and sit ups. I have lost around 40 pounds in eight months on diet alone and doing body weight type exercises. I'll step it up soon with something a bit more challenging to avoid plateauing, but it's amazing to see how much nutrition plays into weight loss and how you feel. I haven't been depriving myself of foods I love, but am just really watching portion control and late night eating. That has been pretty key for me.

I never want to be at a higher weight again. My body can carry it but it just doesn't feel right. I need to live in the 225/235 pound range and right now, I'm just about there (233).

Yea, I read a lot of stuff that says diet is half the battle, but honestly, I think it's a lot more than that. Diet, and other lifestyle stuff like getting enough sleep.

Especially when starting out, you don't need to spend a lot of time working out. If you have a good plan, even spending only 3 hours a week working out, you can make a lot of progress. It's much more about what you do outside the gym, if you don't get that under control, it doesn't really matter what you do in the gym.

My experience has been diet is 80% of the battle. I could exercise all I wanted, but if I stray from the diet, it all goes to $#!+.

Ready to work chest and triceps, tonight. Got less than four hours of work and then off to the gym.

I don't get much sleep, maybe a 6 hour average if I'm lucky.. and I don't have a perfect diet. I eat the occasional fried meal, but its mostly baked or grilled...

Also I usually only eat baked chicken and brown rice or tuna for lunch, at work...

Moved back to benching 65 lbs dumbells on the flat bench.

I've been out of the gym for a few weeks and just had to make myself do it. I'm tired of making excuses..

Have increased my everyday bike mileage to 27. Also, I rode a 40 miler this weekend.... I need a bike jersey with the pockets in the back because I got hungry as hell on that ride.

O I also bought the Garmin 500 bike computer with cadence and heart rate monitor.... Great investment.

Don't pay attention to the average speed I was aiming at a certain heart rate zone.

Derk, 27 miles a day is pretty intense. Are you a commuter? What kind of bike you ride?

                          Re: 2012 FITNESS CHALLENGE

The past week, while on vacation, I've been going with this workout:

                          - 125 push-ups (45 standard, then eight sets of ten, all different variations, < 60 seconds break in between each set) all on a slight declining slope on the sand next to ocean water.
                          - Two mile bike ride to the jetty at the end of the beach.
                          - 100 push-ups (ten sets of ten, all different variations, including incline and decline on bench [the two missing in first time], < 60 seconds break in between each set).
                          - Four mile bike ride to the other end of the beach, by the pier, and inland toward Jamba Juice.
                          - Four mile bike ride back to the jetty.
                          - 100 push-ups (same as last time).
                          - Two mile bike ride back to beach house.

In the end, I do 325 push-ups and ride about twelve miles. When I go home, I'm going to start working on chest and abs along with everything else. I wish I could do running, but I've had an everlasting heel injury preventing me from doing so.

I've started taking whey protein (after workout, less than suggested) and casein protein (before bed, amount suggested) yesterday.

I've been calling this the "Bane program," seeing where I can get to in four months. He technically has nothing to do with what I'm trying to get to, but he's been my inspiration, for whatever reason. I'm going to start working on my diet when I return home from vacation as well, but in general, I just want to get more massive. I think I was around 150-155 lbs starting vacation. I'll weigh myself when I return home this Saturday and report results.

Lol, I have been an endurance athlete all my life. In high school cross country we would run at least 12 miles a day.... Now that was insane.

Just a nice slow recovery ride to get some blood flowing through my legs, my inner thighs have been sore as of late. I was going so slow I felt kinda guilty, less than 60% max heart rate.

What is everyone's thought about dynamic stretching being better for you than static stretching?
