Re: 2012 FITNESS CHALLENGE
Yep. Basically for the standard push-up, hands are directly underneath your shoulders (fingers pointed straight outward), and head is lifted up enough so the chin is the lowest part of my head itself. I will go down until my chin touches the floor, then lift back up.
Try this push-up exercise:
- Do four push-ups at a pretty standard pace, if not more quickly (as long as you have your form right).
- Do four more push-ups, but this time take four seconds to go down, and four seconds to come back up (as in, you will slowly, constantly descend and ascend).
- Do four more standard-paced push-ups.
- Rest for 1 - 2 minutes, repeat exercise two more times.
This will help build endurance if you want to start getting a lot of push-ups in one "rep." Try doing it with getting your chin on the ground each time, and keeping your body as straight as possible.Samsung PN60F8500 PDP / Anthem MRX 720 / Klipsch RC-62 II / Klipsch RF-82 II (x2) / Insignia NS-B2111 (x2) / SVS PC13-Ultra / SVS SB-2000 / Sony MDR-7506 Professional / Audio-Technica ATH-R70x / Sony PS3 & PS4 / DirecTV HR44-500 / DarbeeVision DVP-5000 / Panamax M5400-PM / Elgato HD60Comment

Re: 2012 FITNESS CHALLENGE
Worked out 1st time in a month now that i'm finally in my school routine and have everything set up.
Jogged/Ran a mile today with very little problems today as I felt I could run some more which is a good sign as i'm improving my cardio it seems. Although I think I need to pay attention to how I breathe as sometimes I'll get some pain around my pec and heard not breathing properly can play a role(I got an EKG over the summer which was all good besides just a bit of a strong heartbeat).
The small gym here in my complex has some cardio stuff, dumbbells and a machine so it's alright need to find some more exercises. However I think what i'm going to do is just workout on campus after if I can then since I walk home just do cardio in my apartment gym.
Weighed in at 170, my goal is 150(I've been 160 but haven't been below that in awhile).Last edited by Chrisksaint; 09-12-2012, 01:04 AM.Saints, LSU, Seminoles, Pelicans, Marlins, LightningComment

Re: 2012 FITNESS CHALLENGE
Anyone have experience with LA Fitness? I am not a fan of gyms or having to pay a monthly fee, but my new job has led me to working out about 3 times in the last 5 weeks.
I leave for work around 7 and get back at 6. I do a lot of sitting so my energy has drained a lot from inactivity. I have an hour for lunch and there is one across the street from me. I actually have energy around this time of the day so I was thinking about joining and at least getting maybe 20 minutes of SOMETHING in. I may not be at this job in 3 months so I wouldn't want to have to do a year membership or anything.Comment

Re: 2012 FITNESS CHALLENGE
Leaving for the beach tomorrow. Insanity came in the mail yesterday. Hopefully I don't pack on too much, but I doubt I'll eat too much during the day.

Re: 2012 FITNESS CHALLENGE
My friend let me use his guest pass for his la fitness a few times. My impression of it was that it was well maintained, nice locker rooms, plenty of equipment, but no kettle bells (rows and rows of dumbbells though)...and no towels, you have to bring your own. They also had different classes and a pool, neither of which i used. The trainers didn't really walk around at all either, they all congregated at the entrance talking to each other. Normally, if they dont have clients or aren't on a break, they should be walking around.
Overall, while its nice looking, I didn't like it. Im not sure what it was about it. The negatives I mentioned aren't deal breakers to me really. It might just be that im used to my gym which is much smaller, and i know where everything i need is. And towels...Comment

I hate LA Fitness. Yes they are affordable (25 bucks a month in AZ) but they don't have towels and its so busy at the locations here in Arizona that you always have to wait for machines, ALWAYS. I ended up paying double for a much nicer club (lifetime fitness) and couldn't be happier.
If it isn't busy then by all means it should be ok, but I hated that I had to bring my own towels or have to pay for them.Comment

Re: 2012 FITNESS CHALLENGE
I'm one month down as of today with the insanity workout. What an insane month it has been, but each work has been rewarding. I definitely feel tighter, lighter, and stronger. I've been dieting my own way as I really don't have the time for a five meal diet program, but I've been seeing results.
Didn't take any before pictures and I won't take any after pictures as I feel the most important thing is if I'm feeling healthy, which I am. This is really an empowering workout. Any Insanity grads out there?Comment

Re: 2012 FITNESS CHALLENGE
DDP's YRG Yoga has some cool push exercises with holds and some involving your hands pointing inside at each other (all chest!)
Here is what the master can do:

Re: 2012 FITNESS CHALLENGE
Without digging into insanity. Anyone have any suggestions for a good ab workout/routine that isn't super stressful on the lower back ?
I try not to work my lower back much, because of an injury I suffered when I still worked for Home Depot. While pulling a side by side refrigerator up a flight of stairs, I slipped and fell and tweaked something in the lower right side of my back... It's been a few years ago, but some pain still lingers from time to time.
I try the medicine ball approach and a few ab machines, but it seems to just make my back sore. I can still lift and I'm not THAT brittle (still play sports weekly).. just trying to find something new.Last edited by AUChase; 09-17-2012, 04:29 PM.Comment
