    Re: 2013 FITNESS CHALLENGE

I'm going through one of those frustrating points where my mind plays tricks on me with my weight. My waist measurements aren't changing but my weight has been going up. Have any of you guys lost a large amount and noticed if your skin ever tightens up all the way?

I wasn't huge before (265) and got down to 215 (Now about 222) and it seems like some areas just won't completely go "lean" for me. I'm not talking sagging skin. It's just like my body won't let me forget where it once was and I've been trying like hell to get rid of all the extra cushion.

I've all but given up, after getting down to 158 prior to Winter Break i've gotten back up to 175.

Need to get some more motivation and use more self control when i'm at the grocery, finding healthier meal recipes will probably help. Being exhausted after class this semester has led me to eat a little more fast, frozen, and junk food.

If I wasn't trying to cut most of my sodium, I would enjoy what I'm eating rigth now. I can't use many seasoning salts I'm used to for my baked chicken. Anyone have any good baked chicken recipes ?

I was looking at the package of seasoning and it has 1200mg of sodium for every 1/2 tsp. of seasoning. I couldn't make myself use it after that.

I feel super energetic, awake and just overall really good. No more feeling bloated, headache or in need of coffee every morning (like last week). The toughest thing is being at the parents (Snowed in from our apartment) and my mom's great cooking that my dad, cousin and my preggo wife get to eat, while mom and I are juicing.

Regarding Netflix, after watching the two docs I mentioned - I watched "Forks over Knives" which brought in a lot of scientific and clinical support to the idea of being "plant based". This led me to the Engine2Diet, and man does that food/recipes look incredible. I plan on going that route after this reset/reboot.
I ordered the Engine 2 Diet book and Forks over Knives book from from Amazon. I went up on his site and printed out the grocery menu. I should have the books this Friday when I get home from work. I started tonight which is a complete change but I am going to do the 28 day challenge.

I cut coffee out of my daily life and now that the headaches and withdrawal has subsided, I am feeling much better! I was getting tired of depending on it every day. Plus, I always added sugar and milk which only contributed to my fat gain. I've noticed my attitude is better, no longer grumpy in the mornings. No more crashing in the evenings which lead to more grumpiness. I'm also a heck of lot less stressed which had to be the caffeine.

I'm willing to go Vegan for the month of March just to cleanse my system. I even started a cleasing program to clean the garbage out of my system. Everything is looking up as I am moving in the right direction.

I've also become impressed with the Urban Rebounder and the 14 workout videos that came with it. I am enjoying the change in cardio routines and for the first time in years, I am actually sore from my rear down to my calves. Meaning the workout routine works! It might look like a workout for girls but even NASA stated it is the best piece of workout equipment invented. Just had to say that as it was enough to spark my interest into researching this. Now that I have it and use it daily, I must admit that I wish I started working using it back in January as I would have been miles ahead of where I am now.

Yes, I use Mrs. Dash seasoning http://www.mrsdash.com/

I also bake my meats in oven bags with these seasonings:

I've lost a ton of weight recently in a short amount of time and I haven't had any issues with my midsection abd love handles tightening back up.....I'm also older at 36. I think the trick is, and what seemed to work for me, is to drink a ton of water a day. Not sure if it has more to do with genetics, but I know that I drink a ton of water a day and did through my whole weight loss and it yielded great results

I agree, water is the key! I usually drink a glass or two prior to meals. I am slow to eat so that my brain tells the body it is full before I over eat.

I'll give it a shot. I dunno if water in the system has anything to do with burning fat, but it's not like it's an unhealthy risk.

My frustration comes from the fact I haven't changed what or how much I eat, nor have I changed my workout routine. I'm doing the same things that got me down in weight, yet now the weight is climbing back on. I realize there is some muscle gain in there, but for me the love handles and lower abdomen are refusing to surrender completely.

Water will aid in weight loss and will help your body burn fat. At least 64 ounces a day......it's not a magic bullet, but combined with proper diet and exercise it will help your body burn more fat metabolically. Pretty much aids your certain organs to burn the fat more efficiently

The body adapts so therefore you need to change it up. That is why P90x is so popular as it is uses different exercises they call "Muscle Confusion" to get results. Same thing with what you eat. My buddy has always done the Atkins Diet and this time around it is doing absolutely nothing for him.

Without hydrating with water, you will not lose weight. Read this:

That is so awesome, man! Did you watch the movie(s) on NetFlix as well? Much props to you for getting the cleanse part started first - that's what I'm doing. What day are you on for your cleanse?

You aren't kidding about feeling great. Seriously, it's ridiculous. I am full of energy - just in a great mood. Work production was awesome, and people were asking what I was doing, etc. We had a pizza day at work today - and all I had to do was walk in and smell the flavors, and walked out.

The thought of meat/fish or chicken just doesn't sound good to me right now - especially after watching Forks over Knives, then seeing Rip explain the food part in Engine2Diet.

I'll have to check out the Urban Rebounder as well, sounds interesting. I play soccer as much as I can, so fitness won't be a problem - of course I've got a baby on the way in July so that might change a lot of things pertaining to fitness.

Awesome stuff again, bro - we gotta keep eachother accountable. I was thinking about starting something on youtube for a video journal - not sure I want to though

Haven't watched the movies yet but I did watch all of the ones on Engine2diet.com. Plan to watch the Netflix one tomorrow.

I'm on Day 3 of my cleanse so I have a ways to go but all is going well. I play and coach soccer at the age of 41 soon to be 42 here in a few. I just got done working out on the rebounder and if anything, the workout videos is what makes it worth it. My core and legs feel great right now. In the morning it will probably be different but I'm gaining muscle and slimming out from this no matter how silly it seems.

Congrats on expecting!!! I have two already grown up so enjoy it while you can as time flies. The Engine2diet is a big change but I am really looking forward to it. Started this evening but I am going to count March 1st this Friday as the official start just for ease of tracking.

As far as from a PT aspect, the avg person should consume at least 92 oz of water per day...

Nice, I'm on day 3 as well. The cravings get more intense at night though - so I'm trying to distract myself as much as I can. The cleanse I'm on requires an intake of 4-6 egg whites tomorrow for breakfast and dinner; but I'm just going to juice and chew on some carrots/cucumbers and one of the best ever...dried Kale (whole foods).

I got the book on amazon kindle for pc as well - so I'm reading right now, excited about all the recipes it mentions.

How have you dealt with nay-sayers, non supporters, etc?

My biggest thing is i HATE when someone finds out I'm doing something for my nutritional gain and they say "you don't need to lose weight" even though the gut hanging over my belt would say otherwise, I still get frustrated because that neither helps me or inspires me.

The benefits of FOCUSING on your nutrition are weight loss and overall mortality - what is wrong with that?

I'm a bit on the fence to playing soccer tomorrow night due to the cleanse, etc - but we'll see.

Yeah encouragement and all that definitely helps. I've had to keep myself going and have the willpower. Nobody here's noticed I've lost 20 pounds since the beginning of the semester but I'll just have to think about the looks I'll get when I reach my goal.
