    Re: 2013 FITNESS CHALLENGE

I've been home from work today. I put on some pants and long sleeves and went for a 2 mile jog this morning after breakfast.

I just went to town and did some shopping and ate lunch with my recruiter in the mall and I'm back home now.

Just did a quick 9 minute cardio routine from youtube, but I pause my xbox in between and do sets of pushups and situps.

I'm trying to burn that oven roasted chicken sub

I don't have "cheat days" just to have cheat days. That said, I don't stress out about food on days/nights I go out with friends. Obviously, if you're still in college going out every night its not the same situation, but once those days are done and you have a full time job, that doesn't exactly happen anymore...

When I want to go out, I go out and have a good time, period. Then all those other days, I don't feel the need to have cheat days and can stick to my healthy eating (not that I find it particularly hard, I enjoy eating good healthy food... but still, its nice to not stress about going out whenever and eating what you want with friends).

Its actually funny, because a lot of my friends think I eat like that all the time and can't figure out how I've lost so much weight and gotten in better shape.

Both books on Engine2diet showed up a day early

Going strong vegan style! It really kicks in tomorrow as official. I still have to go grocery shopping tomorrow night which is going to be a complete change from what I normally eat. Going from high protein / low carb to this should be fun.

I'm still taking in protein shakes so that I don't lose muscle mass. Just finished another great workout with the urban rebounder with the URX Extreme workout DVDs. It's crazy but even after working out, relaxing for a few, I am ready to go lift weights. I'm going to do that before bedtime as I have some extra energy to burn.

I'm so glad you are doing it bro. Its hard at first but believe me man, it changed my life completely going vegan. Weight loss, energy, skin everything is better but the best is reversing diabetes. My doctors were baffled knowing that everyone in my family has it and I was able to do it.

I recommend getting Vega Sport as a protein supplement since you'll be working out hard and its all vegan

            Noice!!

I'm looking forward to seeing what workout program I want to take on - this is the last day of my cleanse.

            Monday - 210.5
Friday (as of this morning) - 203

The book is awesome, I'm reading it on kindle for android right now - amazing how much detail he goes in regarding everything. Then he focuses on a lot of his life as a firefighter and a triathlete - think that is pretty cool. Also, a friend of Lance Armstrong? Can't beat that.

Let me know how the shopping goes. That grocery list, to be honest, is quite daunting for the first week. I hope I can muster enough patience in finding the items (I HATE shopping, unless it's online).

Are you going to do firefighter or cadet? I'm assuming firefighter?

Wow, Rockin - that is awesome. Reversing diabetes? I know the movies show it, but it's pretty cool to hear an OS bro doing so! Congrats, man!

I haven't had any crazy health issues in the past. I was a pro athlete until tearing my ACL which set me up to just eat whatever I wanted, so I gained about 30 pounds, and packed on 10 more within the last 6 months. On the BMI scale, sitting 5'8 and 200+; I'm in the 'obese' range, so when people say you don't need to lose weight - I beg to differ (and then I wonder what they think is overweight or obese).

I got to have a salad (romain lettuce, sprouts and nuts) yesterday and just sprinkled some lemon and a dab or two of balsamic vinegar - it was incredible. I'm looking forward to all the new tastes out there, and looking forward to the challenge of no meat/chicken or fish for the next month - and maybe beyond.

So far the book is fantastic as it is opening my eyes! Going to a Organic Whole Foods store this evening which is about 30 minutes away from my house and hopefully worth it. I'm sure it is going to hit me in the wallet but it is better to pay now instead of with my life later. Like you, I usually just purchase what I need online. I did order two Vega Sports Performance protein powders (Chocolate and the other Vanilla) that RockinDaMike suggested. Again expensive but I believe it will be well worth it.

Going Firefighter my friend. Doesn't make sense to not jump in the pool with both feet especially when I am ready to go for a swim. I'm really interested in going with this for the month of March and possibly longer. I'm sure in time it will become easier. Yes that grocery list seems rather tough at first but I see it as a new adventure!!!

                Re: 2013 FITNESS CHALLENGE

Last saturday I bought a scale and had a major reality check weight wise. So this past week I jolted my diet and cut portions, and increased veggie and fruits. I didnt add a major workout plan but I did some long walks around my neighborhood. This morning I lost 8 pounds since last week. Im really pumped to begin this fitness journey. The scale reinforced the work I was putting in regulating my food intake. My appetite has decreased in that week while I make sure my body isnt actually starving. Cut carbs and increased proteins and its working wonders. Looking forward to participating in this thread more often.

Well, I had a terrible Thursday.

I drank way too much, but didn't eat anything unhealthy at dinner and remained steady with my diet yesterday, while drinking a bunch of water to recover.

I stepped on the scales this morning and I'm 221.5

I'm looking to get under 220 before Monday. I'm going to run at the park tomorrow and sweat some more of it out. I say 213 is my goal, but I think if I can get to 215 I'll be okay. I have 13 more days to get there.

I need to drop 14 in three weeks which is a huge unhealthy task. However, I know that I can get it done!

Btw: it is a biggest loser contest Wish I hadn't slacked off for nearly two months.

I'm in limbo a bit because I haven't had the chance (nor $$) to go grocery shopping for Engine2 food yet. So i'm just half continuing my cleanse and eating whatever mom makes, in small portions.

Wife and I are moving next weekend - so hopefully I'll be able to start Engine2 firefighter right away.

Those of you guys that are looking to lose some pounds in a week, try the cleanse I did by Drew Canole:

I've lost 25 now. Now the challenge will be not gaining weight when I go home for spring break. Can't be tempted by In N Out, Cicis, Rubio's, and the plethora of mexican food.

                          I don't think it's completely unhealthy.

Just cutting a lot of sodium will help you shed a few lbs in water weight too.

Played soccer for 90 minutes today as a center mid (definition= lots of running). Felt great so I am in fairly good shape conditioning wise.

Went grocery shopping and picked up every item from the engine2diet. Just ran the numbers for week #1 = $470. It was more because my wife wants to give it a go with me for this month so that required extra. Most of the items are long term items for the cupboard for cooking in general. Both of us agreed that we were basically starting from scatch so therefore it was going to be more money in the beginning. We also didn't have to go organic but I did on everything so there you go.

Tomorrow is day one with the recipes for the next 28 days.
