This. The XP sliders were optimized for a specific distribution of CPU-driven OVRs, and that's what they'll accomplish. A human, especially in a solo franchise, can obliterate those expected XP totals and build a monster team.

for sure, but thats where the gameplay sliders come into play. it helps with fairness of the game. i hate to lose against the computer but i can only go 1 time undefeated before it gets boring and i quit playing

i like to crank up the xp % during preseason to give them back ups and young players some good xp points. i think TDawg did an awesome job for a base model. i just tweaked it a little to compensate what i am good at so i dont end up having a player with 100K xp in one season

how are these sliders with the cpu doing all the progression and should it be every 4 weeks or end of season?

I just use the auto progress for all XP. This helps to maintain parity with the CPU controlled teams.

Plus, IMO, it seems a bit cheesy to be able to selectively determine how a player develops anyway.

I do the same except I go in and buy traits for them to upgrade them since I don't think the cpu buys traits.
