The Braves go into the All-Star break streaking!!

Game 1 vs.the Marlins: Here comes that man again SS/UI Camargo. He came on as a PH for SU Vizzy in the btm of the 8th & struck out! Top of the 10th, Marlins took the lead 6-5 off LRP Santiago. Btm 10th- SS/3B Tulo drew a walk. Up comes Camargo 2R HR to RF(364ft). We won 7-6!

Game 2: SP Fried proved to be human! He went 6IP,3ER,2BB & K. He gave up the game tying 2R HR to Granderson. Making it 3-3. Btm of the 8th: PH Freeman nailed his (10)HR,49RBI, giving us the 4-3 lead, Kimbrel came in close it out, striking out 2, SV(28). We won 4-3!

Game 3: Lots of pitches per Inning for both teams. SP Teheran most pitches in a inn was(28) & least was 12. He only 5.0IP, but long enough to earn his 12th victory. Marlins SP Alcantara threw 31 in one inn, least was 15. He only went 4.0IP. (3)HR total for both teams. SS Albies hit the go ahead 2RHR(5) off RP Conley giving us the 4-1 lead. We won 4-3.

7 game winning streak going into AS break. Record 55-37, up 2.5 on the Mets & 4.0 on the Nats. HR Derby and All-Star game is next up!

Re: MLB The Show 20 Franchise Discussion Thread

Prior to the 2020 season, the Tampa Bay Rays are undergoing several changes. The team’s ownership is changing with the new owner also taking on the role of GM. All other staff will stay in place and the team philosophy will only be changed slightly. The Rays typically operate with a small payroll and aim to compete on the margins but signing low level players at cheap prices, growing them into everyday players and then trading them for prospects. This has earned them a trip to the World Series and several other playoff berths, all while maintaining one of the lowest payrolls in the MLB.

This year, and for future years under new ownership, the goal remains the same; compete in the AL East while maintaining a shoestring budget. For this to happen, the MLB roster won’t be touched in Spring Training, but the MiLB rosters will be changed. Any contract that is not a minimum level contract ($30k-90k) will likely be moved in a trade or outright released. The goal will be to cut 4-5% off the budget (around $3.5MM on their $78MM budget) and get more competitive. This means scouring the free agency pool for high potential prospects at low costs. No prospects will be signed unless they qualify for a MiLB deal and are under team control for 6 years.

The MLB roster will not be touched and only MiLB players and free agents will be considered (during Spring Training) for the revamp of the roster.

The Cubs won the first two games of the season ending series vs MIL. Cubs still had a 1 game lead as the Cardinals were also able to win their games. The Cardinals lost their next game, which meant the Cubs magic # was 1 and all the Cubs had to do was win, and they did. They won 5-4 in extra innings and were able to clinch the NL Central division in Milwaukee.

The Cubs will take on the Dodgers in the NLDS, the same team that swept them last year in the NLDS. Will the Cubs seek revenge with a stronger team? Or will they falter yet again against a team that has dominated the NL for years? The Cubs have a truly tough call for the playoff rotation, with every SP having under a 3.70 ERA on the season.

        Game 1: Julio Urias (14-11, 3.40ERA) Vs Walker Buehler (14-9, 2.91ERA)
        Game 2: Kyle Hendricks (15-11, 3.45ERA) Vs Clayton Kershaw (12-11, 2.91 ERA)
        Game 3: Dinelson Limet (8-11, 3.09ERA) Vs Luke Weaver (5-5, 1.72 ERA)
Game 4 (If Necessary): Yu Darvish (18-8, 3.12ERA) Vs Dustin May (11-7, 3.59 ERA)
        Game 5 (If Necessary): TBD
        Game 1: Julio Urias (14-11, 3.40ERA) Vs Walker Buehler (14-9, 2.91ERA)

Cubs Lose 6-2: Urias got hit for 3 runs in the 1st inning, and Buehler was cruising. Both pitchers were taken out early, Urias in the 3rd after allowing the 3 runs and Buehler after 4, despite pitching well his pitch count was high. The Cubs got on the board in the 3rd and 5th with RBI’s from Rizzo in both frames, but it was not enough as the Dodgers tacked on insurance runs in the 6th and 8th inning to win the game 6-2

        Game 2: Kyle Hendricks (15-11, 3.45ERA) Vs Clayton Kershaw (12-11, 2.91 ERA)

Cubs Win 5-4: Epic game between these two teams as Kershaw gave up a 3RHR in the 1st inning to Javy Baez. The Dodgers struck back and answered with 2 in the 3rd inning thanks to a Willson Contreras HR, but the Cubs tacked on 2 runs of their own in the 3rd with a 2-run double off the bat of late season pickup Kevin Pullar. Hendricks went 6IP and gave up 4ER, but got enough run support for the bullpen to hold the score at 5-4 the rest of the way.

        Game 3: Dinelson Limet (8-11, 3.09ERA) Vs Luke Weaver (5-5, 1.72 ERA)

Cubs Win 5-4: Extra innings thriller in this one as yet again 1st inning runs came for both teams, 2 for the Cubs and 1 for the Dodgers. Limet settled down and went 5IP and 3ER while Luke Weaver was chased out of the game after 4IP giving up 8 hits and 3ER. The score was tied at 4-4 from the 6th inning onward and would push the game into extras, Where Rookie Greg Scruggs delivered an RBI double which gave the Cubs the lead and allowed Kimbrel to close his 2nd game of the series, another stellar performance by the Cubs pen as they went 6IP and only allowing 1 run.

        Game 4 : Yu Darvish (18-8, 3.12ERA) Vs Dustin May (11-7, 3.59 ERA)

Epic game 4, as Darvish allowed 2Runs in the first, the Cubs could not figure out young phenom Dustin May. He was cruising through 4innings and only allowed one hit, but the Cubs were working his pitch count, and they delivered in the 5th inning putting up a 4 spot and firmly taking a 4-2 lead thanks to a 2out bases clearing double by Anthony Rizzo. They tacked another run in the 5th, but the Dodgers answered back with 2 of their own and forcing Darvish out of the game.

Cubs added on and made it 6-4 in the 8th. The Dodgers turn at the plate was game changing. Nate Jones was in to pitch for the Cubs and with 2 outs and 2 on, Willson Contreras hits a 3 run go ahead home run. Kenley Jansen in to save the game for the Dodgers and the Cubs refused to go down. Bryant, Baez, and Rizzo all started the innings with hit, and Nico Hoerner drove in the go ahead runs to give the Cubs a 9-7 lead, where yet again Craig Kimbrel came in to close out the series and notch his 3rd save.

        Cubs Win 9-7

        Cubs win series 3-1

Despite the series only going 4, it was a hard fought battle. The Cubs very well may have knocked out the best competition in the NL and were able to get rid of the LAD demons of past seasons. They head to the NLCS to face off VS the Phillies.

Boston Red Sox @ Minnesota Twins
          Series: MN lead 2-1

What a wild series. The first two games had very low scoring, with the Twins winning Game 1 and Boston winning Game 2. Hits were hard to come by for the Red Sox during Game 1, as Odorizzi had a 2 hit bid in his 7 innings of work. Boston did score first at the top of the 3rd, but a run for the Twins in each of the 3rd, 4th, and 5th. Garver went 3-4 and 1 RBI. Taylor Rogers ended up with his 5th save. Game 2 had the opposite turnout. Maeda did pitch extremely well for 8 innings but it was Tyler Duffey that gave up 3 runs on 4 hits, securing the shutout for Boston. Let’s note that there was only 1 HR over these 2 games. Game 3 was a different story. 9 HRs were launched in this back and forth rubber match. 3 of them came from Nelson Cruz, who now has 10 HRs on the season. Rich Hill had his worst outing of the season, going 5 innings and allowing 4 runs on 8 hits. Boston had 3 players with 3 hits or more; Kevin Pillar was on point with 2 HRs and 5 RBIs. There were 5 lead changes in the game; all of them came before the 6th inning. By the end of the 7th, it was Garver’s 3 run shot that put the Twins ahead 12-8, paving away for a Twins win. Boston ended up putting 2 more runs on the board but it wasn’t enough. This game was the highest combined scoring game of our season as well as the most hits combined. In total, there was 22 runs and 34 hits between the teams and surprisingly no errors.

          ALC Standings:

          Twins, 19-10 (-)
          Indians, 19-12 (1.0)
          White Sox, 17-12 (2.0)
          Royals, 14-14 (4.5)
          Tigers, 6-22 (12.5)

          Who’s Hot?:

We have a total of 6 position players currently on a hot streak. Nelson Cruz is of course pacing the team in many hitting categories; he’s on pace to hit 60 HRs. One player who is excelling all expectations is Byron Buxton. He is 3rd on the team in batting average, sitting at .323. Here’s hoping he can get his 2nd Gold Glove this season. We have 4 pitchers on the hot streak, with Odorizzi, Maeda, and Hill each with 4 wins. Maeda also leads the team in strikeouts with 43.

          Who’s Not?:

Only 2 players are on the cold seat, Miguel Sanó and Marwin Gonzalez. They are hitting .228 and .207, respectively. Sanó is 2nd in HRs though with 7. Gonzalez, primarily a platoon player, has played in 16 games and has the 2nd worst average with RISP which is at .182. He could lose playing time to Ehire Adriánza, who has a .571 RISP while only playing 5 games.

April isn’t done, folks! Just two games left and we face an even tougher team in the LA Dodgers (21-7). Since it’s a 2 game series, I was thinking of streaming it tomorrow at 4 pm CDT. My twitch link is http://www.twitch.tv/Relichris. So hopefully you guys will join me and encourage me with any tips, tricks, or critiques.

Thank you guys for liking the posts I make on here. I don’t often play the game much due to the stress I’ve been under (trying to find a job so I can stay where I live and survive, lol), but I’m gonna try to play 2 games a day so I can move steadily on the season.

I’m playing all of Spring Training, mostly so I can get my difficulty and sliders worked out. I started on Hall of Fame with default sliders - after 6 games I’m 5-1, with a .295 avg and 2.55 ERA. I’ll play a few more games before I decide, but I’m thinking I need a bump to legend before I attempt messing with the sliders. I’ll need to compare my team stats to the rest of the league to make sure I’m in a realistic range. Any pointers in this area are appreciated.
Just when I thought it was time to move to up to legend, I drop 2 in a row to the 0-11 Tigers and the hapless Orioles. Gotta love baseball. Yanks are 8-3 now through 11 spring games. I checked my team stats and we’re at or near the top in most categories, which IMO is in line with expectations based on the roster. 15 spring games left to work on this - I haven’t played with sliders yet.

Still too early to have a verdict on any position battles. Loaisiga and Michael King have both been solid so we’ll see how they handle getting stretched out a bit. They’ll each make their next start with a 4 inning or 75-pitch limit.

Mike Tauchman is on fire, leading the team in hits and OBP. I’ve been using him in the 2-hole behind either Gardner or LeMahieu depending on the lineup, but he’s versatile enough to hit anywhere. I’m not in love with his defense in center and his arm is well below-average, but if he keeps hitting like this he probably is going to start in left.

Green, Britton, Ottavino, and Chapman have all blown saves so far. We came back to win most of those games but I don’t like how shaky the bullpen has been early on.

              End of Season - 2020

We were able to avoid a 3rd straight 100 loss season as we finished 72-90. 20-32 in August and September. 15.5 games behind the Twins who needed a game 163 against the Indians to win the division. We did manage to win more division games than we lost going 39-37. And we were much better on the road going 41-40 compared to 31-50 at home.

As for the pitching it really didn't change much. Daniel Lynch was the bright spot in September giving up just 2 ER over his last 25.1 innings pitched. We ended up sending Brady Singer back down to AAA for the last 3 or 4 weeks of the season. He had a 6.67 ERA and 2.12 WHIP in 7 starts. Averaging just 4 innings per start. We called up Eric Skoglund to replace him and really didn't go well with a 4.98 ERA. Then Heath Filymer came up as a September callup Wasnt all that terrible with a 4.18 ERA but could have been a little lucky based on his 5.07 FIP.

              Standings
              Spoiler

Mondesi and Dozier ended up tied for the team lead in WAR at 5.6. Dozier hit .298/.384/.497 with 26 HR and 97 RBI. Defense was all that great putting up 10 errors in 1161.2 innings split between RF, 1B and 3B. Mondesi finished the season hitting .282/.339/.489 with 46 doubles and 12 triples to go along with 18 HR. His doubles and triples lead the majors with Dozier finishing 2nd in doubles. Jorge Soler lead the majors in HR with 50 breaking his team record from last year of 48. He was able to pul his AVG up a bit as the season ended hitting .248 with a .358 OBP and .913 OPS.

Alex Gordon has let the team know he plans to retire. He finishes his career 5th in Royals history for games played, Runs, Hits, and Doubles. 3rd in Home Runs and Walks and 6th in RBI.

If Mike Matheny was actually in the game id keep him around but he isn't so the whole coaching staff is gone. Hoping to bring in some guys that can help our pitchers not be trash.

Ian Kennedy, Greg Holland and Trevor Rosenthal are the only free agents we have. Holland will probably be back. Ian Kennedy is like 40/60 and Rosenthal is for sure gone. Probably won't make any big signings maybe a middle of the rotation starter or a reliever if there is someone young enough to be a factor in another year or 2 when we will hopefully be competitive.

Re: MLB The Show 20 Franchise Discussion Thread

Just completed the 2020 June draft in my Red Sox franchise. Before going over the picks, a brief overview of the season. We are 37-27, sitting a half game up on the Yankees. However the Yankees are starting to get healthy so it'll be tough to hold them off. A couple of roster moves in releasing Martin Perez and trading Heath Hembree to the Padres. San Diego has had a few injuries in their bullpen otherwise Hembree would have been released as well. He had an ERA of 4.6 but was squeezed put of a spot by other pitchers performing better while he was injured. Perez had an ERA over 6. Pretty obvious why we moved on there. Brian Johnson took the spot in the rotation for now. On to the draft....

                Round 1: C Vaughn Potts(73 overall/93 Pot)
Potts is an 18 year old catcher from New York. His defense is advanced for his age but blocking is a weak point. Below average contact skills but has potential for above average power. Needs to improve against lefties but the bat can be very good for a catcher. Also can run a bit with a speed rating of 59.

                Round 2: 2B Reggie Netzel(65/ 89)
Netzel is a 20 year old from the Netherlands. Tall for second at 6'2" 180 lbs. While his power is far below average, everything else about the bat is above average. Not fast but should have enough speed to be good on the base paths. However defense is a major problem with all his rating being under 50 including arm accuracy of 32. The bat probably won't play at DH due to lack of pop so that needs to improve.

                Round 3: 1B Darrick Joy(69/84)
Joy is your standard slugging right handed first baseman/DH. The defense might be rough and he's slow. But his batting skills are excellent across the board. And unlike most bat first players, he doesn't strike out a lot despite also having good discipline as well.

The rest of my picks are most likely depth picks. However who might be the most interesting pick I had is Robert Cordova. He's an 18 year old right hand pitcher from Iowa. 70 overall and 89 potential and got picked in the 5th round. His pitches include a 97 mph 4 seamer, 95 mph 2 seamer, 82 curveball, and an 84 mph change up. I'm kinda tempted to try him as a starter since he is only 18. However he could fast track as a reliever. Gonna have to decided when he comes in next season.

I just play for the first time ever a HR Derby in the Show. Playing my Braves franchise carry-over from 19'. My team leader in HR's Donaldson(23) was a participant in the HR Derby.
                    1. Trout 27HR 2. Stanton 27HR 3. Judge 26HR 4. J.D. Martinez 26HR 5. Arenado 24HR 6.Baez 24HR 7. Donaldson 23HR 8. Muncy 23HR.

I faced off against Stanton in the 1st round and lost 17-18. It was neat experience, distant presentation package. Martinez won the HR Derby (26,21 & 19) over Stanton..

I played the All-Star game too. I had 3 representative's of the squad: SP Fried 13-3, CP Kimbrel 28SV & Acuna Jr. .340 20HR, 51RBI. Unfortunately the AL won 6-4, but Acuna represented well 1 for 1, 2R HR & sac fly RBI. Fried & Kimbrel both threw a scoreless inning.

Back to the regular season on the road. We got a 3 game series vs. Brewers and 3 games in Sunny San Diego... The Playoff push is on, holding on to 1st place in the NL East by 2.5 games over the Mets. Although CF Inciarte is out for 1-2 mnths with a broken ankle, I am not planning a move to push me over. OF Heyward has been out since May with a fractured ankle as well, but he'll be back after the Padres series. I discovered I could hit well with OF Rafeal Ortega, he is currently batting .293 1HR, 18 RBI. Batting in the 8th spot in our line-up. He has (79) SPD and (75) Arm Str. So he can play any where in the outfield.

                      Wild Walk-off Twins’ Win
Twins take down Tribe in 12 innings

                      April 6, 2020
Minneapolis--- If this game is any indication of the battle for the American Central crown this year, we are in for a heck of a lot of fun. The Minnesota Twins edged division-rival Cleveland 3-2 in twelve innings in front of a playoff-like atmosphere at Target Field on Monday afternoon.

Mitch Garver’s seeing-eye single scored Eddie Rosario easily from second, and the Twins were jumping for joy.

“I got a first pitch fastball and I just tried to stay through it,” Garver answered after the game. “I didn’t get a lot of it, but I got enough of it. It felt good after being lost in my first four at-bats.”

The Twins had some more good news in this one, but also some bad news. Miguel Sano finally jumped out of his early-season slump with four singles, but the Twins also lost Josh Donaldson for some time as he was removed from the game after hustling back to first base after a long flyout in the 3rd inning.

Jose Berrios started for the Twins in this one, and put together a solid performance. He went six innings allowing the only two-runs, back-to-back homeruns in the third inning to Ernie Clement, who was making his major league debut, and Roberto Perez. Berrios struck out eight while walking none. Devin Smelter (1-0) pitched two scoreless extra-innings to pick up the win.

Cleveland and Minnesota will meet again tomorrow afternoon with a first pitch scheduled for 12:10 PM. Kenta Maeda (2-0, 1.64) will get his third start in a Twins’ uniform, while Cleveland will counter with veteran Carlos Carrasco (1-0, 3.21).

Minneapolis--- If this game is any indication of the battle for the American Central crown this year, we are in for a heck of a lot of fun. Thanks for checking. Glad it works. And thanks for the heads up with the picture. I will make that change when I am done with my current series against the Indians.

                            Cardinals drop series to Reds

After sweeping the Phillies in a 4 game series, the Cardinals couldn't follow up that success against the Reds as they dropped 2 of 3 to their division foes.

Michael Wacha was knocked around in the series opener, the bats were silent in game 2, and they finally put it together in game 3 as Junior Fernandez was serviceable.

Jo Adell had a terrific series despite the club losing 2 of the 3, as he collected 3 homeruns and 10 RBI's in the series, as he was essentially the only offense for the Cardinals in all 3 games.

Brendan McKay continues to struggle as he went 0'fer at the plate not getting on base once in the series.

The Cardinals will now host the Diamondbacks for a 4 game series

The Dodgers (28-8) take 2 out of 3 against the Cubs (14-24) by scores of 10-2, 4-5 and 5-1.

4 May 20- 5 home runs, 2 by Cody Bellinger (16 HR) powered the Dodgers to a game 1 win. Bellinger and Max Muncy (15 HR) continue their home run race to lead the team, with back to back bombs in the second. The inconsistent David Price (3-3, 3.38) pitching 7 innings, allowing 5 hits and both Cubs runs.

5 May 20- After allowing 2 runs combined in his previous 6 starts, Alex Wood (5-1, 1.45) allowed 5 in 5 innings to earn his first loss of the season.

6 May 20- 5 runs and 5 hits (3 HR) by the Dodgers in the first 2/3 of the first were enough to earn the Dodgers win in the series finale. After teeing off of Cubs starter Jose Quintana (3-3, 5.65) the Dodger hitters managed only 3 hits against the Cubs pen.

After a Thursday off the Dodgers will host the Padres (13-24) for 3 games before hitting the road. Projected pitching matchups:

                              Walker Buehler (4-1, 2.25) v Joey Lucchesi (3-2, 2.28)
                              Julio Urias (4-1, 3.12) v Garrett Richards (2-3, 4.25)
                              Price v Cal Quantrill (0-1, 3.42)

                                Cardinals split series with Diamondbacks

The Cardinals split their 4 game series with the Diamondbacks.

The D'Backs won the series opener and then game 3, and the Cardinals won game 2 and the series finale which say the Cardinals come back from a 10-1 deficit by scoring 4 in the 7th and then 6 in the 9th to win 11-10.

Michael Wacha and Carlos Martinez were both beaten up really bad in this series although Martinez got a no decision thanks to the comeback.

The Cardinals will now head on the road for a 3 game series against the division leading Brewers to close out the month of May.

Cardinals place both Bader and DeJong on 10 Day IL

The Cardinals placed OF Harrison Bader and SS/IF Paul DeJong on the 10 Day IL after the series finale against the Diamondbacks.

Bader left the game in the 3rd inning after attempting to rob a Pavin Smith homerun. Bader crashed into the wall and injured his lat muscle.

DeJong left the game later in the 7th after attempting to make a diving stop on a groundball hit by Nick Gordon. DeJong came up holding his wrist. X-rays were negative and DeJong was diagnosed with a sprained wrist and is expected to miss 2 weeks.

Outfielder Eddie Ortiz and SS Samuel Franco have been recalled from Memphis to fill the open roster spots.
