A Trip Around the League: MightyMaxxx13’s COVID-free MLB 2020 Season Simulation
April 5, 2020
Red Sox 3, White Sox 2
Mitch Moreland hit a solo blast in the bottom of the 8th off Jimmy Cordero to put the BoSox ahead for good. Red Sox swingman Mike Shawaryn pitched 3 scoreless innings of relief to record his first major league win. Eloy Jimenez homered again for Chicago, so make that 3 in his first series off the IL.
Yankees 6, Blue Jays 5
Yanks win an exciting one to take the rubber match. Down 4-2 heading into the bottom of the 9th, Giancarlo Stanton ties it up with a 2-run shot off Ken Giles (his second of the game). After Adam Ottavino allowed the Jays to score the go-ahead run in the top of the 12th, the Yanks would walk it off on a 2-run homer from Luke Voit off of Thomas Pannone.
Tigers 6, Indians 5
Another Sunday afternoon walkoff in this one. Indians enter the 9th with a 5-4 lead - Brad Hand comes on for the save and after recording one out allowed a game-tying homer to Jacoby Jones, followed by a Jeimer Candelario double and a walkoff single from Victor Reyes. Jordan Zimmermann pitched well for the Tigers but didn’t factor.
Royals 7, Mariners 4
Royals run their winning streak to 5 and M’s are now 0-10 to start the year. Ryan McBroom and Brett Phillips homered, and Jake Junis went 7 innings for the win.
Twins 7, Athletics 3
Josh Donaldson hit a 3-run homer off of Daniel Gossett in the 1st inning and the Twins held the lead throughout. Randy Dobnak got the win despite oddly not recording a strikeout over 5.2. Mark Canha hit his 8th and 9th homers in the loss, continuing his absolutely insane 10-game start.
Astros 6, Angels 5
Jaime Barria loaded the bases in the 5th, then yielded to Jacob Barnes who surrendered a grand slam to George Springer. Trout and Rendon would hit back-to-back homers off Osuna in the 9th but Chris Devenski came to the rescue to secure the road sweep of the series and drop the Halos to 3-7. Justin Upton hit career homer #300 in the second inning off of Houston starter Framber Valdez.
Rangers 5, Rays 1
Rangers sweep the Rays at home to move to an MLB-best 9-1. Jordan Lyles allowed just the 1 run over 7 innings for the win and Nick Solak and Danny Santana homered.
Braves 3, Marlins 1
Braves avoid the sweep behind 6 innings of 1-run ball from King Felix, who is 2-0. Marcell Ozuna picked up 2 RBI’s and Will Smith secured the save.
Nationals 5, Mets 2
Anibal Sanchez scattered 9 hits over 7 innings for the win, and Starlin Castro led the offense with a dinger and 3 RBI’s.
Brewers 5, Phillies 4
Justin Smoak was 4-4 with a double, a homer, and 2 runs scored and Corbin Burnes is off to a nice start with his second win. Phils scored 2 off David Phelps in the 8th to make it close but Josh Hader came on in the 9th and pitched a perfect inning for the save.
Cubs 5, Diamondbacks 0
Jose Quintana did it all except get the 27th out - his final line: 8.2 IP, 3 H, 3 BB, 9 K, plus 2 hits at the plate and a stolen base.
Reds 11, Pirates 5
Joey Votto, Eugenio Suarez, Nick Castellanos, and Mike Moustakas all homered (twice for Moose). Anthony DeSclafani pitched 8 innings for the win and Pirates rookie Mitch Keller was pounded and took the loss.
Orioles 5, Cardinals 3
Hanser Alberto hit a 2-run shot off of Jacob Webb in the top of the 10th to win it. Orioles outfielder DJ Stewart drove in the first 3 runs then broke his ankle running the bases. That’s baseball Suzyn...
Padres 7, Rockies 3
Cal Quantrill pitched 7 innings for the win and added a 2-run single for good measure. Chi Chi Gonzalez got the nod for the Rox and allowed 4 runs over 4 innings for the loss. Both teams are 5-5 to start the year.
Giants 3, Dodgers 0
Giants have had the Dodgers number early on, and the Dodgers have lost 3 consecutive series to start the season. Drew Smyly pitched a complete-game 3-hit shutout, striking out 4. Wilmer Flores was 3-4 with a homer, a triple, and 2 RBI’s.
LEAGUE TRANSACTIONS
Orioles place OF DJ Stewart on the 10-day IL with a broken ankle and recall OF Austin Hays from AAA Norfolk.
Marlins sign free agent RHP Wily Peralta to a minor league contractComment

Mets vs. Cubs game 2:
4 wins in a row! Another dominant win for the Mets (53-20) 6-1.
Jacob deGrom (10-3) pitched magnificent and outplays Jon Lester (9-2) to reach 10 wins first.
It started poorly with Javier Baez hitting a leadoff HR for the Cubs on an 0-2 count to LF. But in the 3rd Cespedes brought in 2 of his 3 RBI's on a double to make it a 2-1 Mets lead.
A pitchers duel till the 6th where Michael Conforto (24) hit another HR and Cespedes drove in another run to make it 5-1. In the 7th, Jeff McNeil hit a solo HR to make it 6-1. Jon Lester went 5 1/3rd for 4 ER's on 5 hits and 2 walks.
deGrom pitched 8 innings on 101 pitches with 11 strikeouts and only 3 hits given up for 1 ER. He continues to lead the Cy Young race and could make it 3 in a row.
The Cubs looked tired throughout and continue to play poor offense against the Mets despite Heidi Watney saying otherwise.
They look to sweep tomorrow before a big 3 game home trip against the Nationals. They are now 10.5 ahead of the 2nd place Braves who are currently tied w the Diamondbacks and Dodgers for the wildcard lead.
overall the only teams to have given the Mets trouble have been the Brewers and Dodgers. The Dodgers especially who have swept the Mets in dominant fashion. Hopefully not a future playoff matchup..Comment

Re: MLB The Show 20 Franchise Discussion Thread
I know it seriously is amazing.
I ended up signing him to a 1+1 deal for 16/yr. He's too good. What did you trade for him? I let Ces go, resigned Betances, Stro and Ramos, and signed Andrew Miller, JBJ and Braun
End of May, Chi Sox offered me Dom for Grandal (they signed JT Realmuto) so I took it, and cause of that, I knew it'd be super tight. So played first half of season and traded Noah to SD for Trammel, Patino and Potts. I signed him to an extension before so they at least keep him going forward.
I'm not playing with the full minors (playing with the base game rosters) so I don't have Alvarez so Grandal will be my C going forward, and Trammel either in LF or CF. Patino is my future #2 hopefully
I was not having much success pitching with Stroman so I traded him, Jordan Balazovic (was un-signed in FA) and RP Corey Taylor for Kluber and SP Lance Lynn who is also playing super strong.
Will probably try to sign a bunch of guys before the season ends and worst case trade Cano and a RP or too for cap space if my SP's are all asking for too much.Comment

Mets vs Cubs game 3:
Throw it away, lol. Mets lose 8-1 as Noah Syndergaard gives up 6 runs in the 3rd inning but goes scoreless besides that in 7. Just nothing going on and lots of runners left on base. Cubs had 16 hits and their bats really woke up today after 2 lackluster games.
Onto the *Phillies series.Comment

Angels Trip Up Twins
Marsh homers twice in win
May 3, 2020
Anaheim--- Brandon Marsh homered twice and drove in three runs, and the Angels bullpen held the Twins scoreless over the final four innings, as Los Angeles knocked off the Twins 5-2 on Sunday afternoon.
The Angels right fielder went four-for-five on the day, and is now hitting .330 on the season.
“I have felt locked in since day one,” commented Marsh. “I had a good spring and made the team, and now I am trying to make the most of this opportunity.”
The 22-year old Marsh has been a pleasant surprise. He came into spring training with no experience above double-A ball, and now here he is excelling at the major league level.
“The kid can play. He has a smooth swing and plays hard, the right way,” commented Angels skipper Joe Maddon.
Anthony Rendon, Tommy La Stella and Brian Goodwin each contributed two hits in the win for the Angels. Mike Trout had three more strikeouts, and nine K’s in the series, as his batting average dropped to .236 on the season.
Homer Bailey (5-1) suffered his first defeat of the year for Minnesota. He worked five and two-third innings, allowing four runs on eleven hits and a couple of walks, to go with his nine strikeouts.
Jake Cave, who entered the game in replacement of Bryon Buxton, hit a two-run homer in the fifth for Minnesota’s only offense. Buxton left the game after a pick off attempt at first base in the 3rd inning. It didn’t look good as there was very limited movement of his arm. He was sent for x-rays but there was no word at the time of publishing.
Minnesota will head back home for a six-game homestand. The first series will be a matchup against the San Francisco Giants. Jhoulys Chacin (2-2, 4.95) starts for Minnesota, while the Giants will offer up Andrew Triggs (1-3, 5.77).Comment

Buxton Injured Again
May 4, 2020
Minneapolis--- The news on Byron Buxton was not good, as the star outfielder will take another extended trip to the injured list. Buxton broke his right forearm sliding into first base on an attempted pickoff in the third inning of yesterday's loss to the Los Angeles Angels, and is expected to miss up to two months.
Buxton, who started the season on the IL, was off to a hot start hitting .362 with five homers and eleven runs batted in over 21 games. He spent the first 10 games of the season still recovering from off-season shoulder surgery.
Nick Gordon was added to the major league roster for the first time in his professional career. He was batting .333 with three homeruns and 15 RBI's at triple-A Rochester. The son of former major league pitcher, Tom Gordon, Nick has long been a prospect to watch for Minnesota, but has been passed up in recent years by the likes of Jorge Polanco and Luis Arraez.
"I am just happy to finally be here, to be in this big league clubhouse," commented Gordon at batting practice this morning. "This is every kid's dream, especially when you grow up in this environment with your dad."Comment

Re: MLB The Show 20 Franchise Discussion Thread
I restarted my franchise this year for the Yankees because as a fan why wouldn't I. The team has improved drastically compared to 2 years ago. I restarted and I honestly can't get past how bad players get at a certain age. I transition back into RTTS and I try to ignore this game and how it disrespects each player in the league. 33 years old is not a peak for players in Baseball for everyone. Ryu, Price, Kershaw, Verlander and Scherzer become unplayable three years into the game and it's sad. Played Verlander in the Opener in a season I simmed and smacked him around on HOF and honestly I've never destroyed him like this ever. I get outta the game mind you he won win AL CY Young the first year as high to mid 90s. Now is a 78 only started cause Mccullers was hurt. This game makes no sense.Comment

Chacin, Twins Take Down Giants
Right hander goes 8 ⅔ innings in win
May 4, 2020
Minneapolis--- Jhoulys Chacin was in control from the get go, firing eight and two-thirds innings and the Twins’ hit three homers as they hung on to defeat the visiting San Francisco Giants 5-3 on Monday night.
Chacin (3-2) was trying for the complete game, but three straight two-out hits in the ninth knocked him out of the game. Overall, he scattered eight hits with one walk. He threw strikes all day, despite recording only one strikeout on the evening.
The offense was led by Jorge Polanco’s four-for-four day, and three home runs from Josh Donaldson (13th), Miguel Sano (4th) and Jake Cave (5th). Donaldson’s two-run shot got the Twins’ on the board in the third, and Sano and Cave both homered in the sixth to break the game open.
Giants starter Andrew Triggs (1-4) threw the ball well, making only mistakes to Donaldson and Sano. He went five and two-thirds innings and was charged with three runs. He gave up eight hits and two walks to go along with his three strikeouts.
Minnesota and San Francisco will meet up again tomorrow night with a pitching matchup of Jose Berrios (0-4, 3.27) and Johnny Cueto (3-2, 3.50). First pitch is set for 6:40 PM.Comment

Re: MLB The Show 20 Franchise Discussion Thread
I battled back but the 10-game winning streak finally ended...
JUNE 28, 2020 | BRONX, NY
Once again the Chicago Cubs battled back from an early deficit but a pair of homers late were too much to overcome this time as they fell to the New York Yankees Sunday night, ending an impressive 10-game winning streak. "It was an amazing road trip and a crazy stretch for us," said Cubs first baseman Anthony Rizzo after the game. "We battled back over and over and proved just how resilient we are."
Jose Quintana completed six innings, allowing three runs on seven hits while striking out five. Quintana earned a no-decision. Ian Happ and Albert Almora Jr. hit back-to-back home runs to kickoff the fourth inning after the Cubs fell behind, 3-0. The pair of home runs made the game 3-2 and two innings later Victor Caratini drove in the tying run on an RBI single.
Tied at three in the top of the seventh, Gio Urshela knocked a solo homer off of Cubs reliever Brad Wieck to put the Yankees back out in front. An inning later Giancarlo Stanton added another run with his own solo shot off of Jeremy Jeffress. All five Yankees came by way of home run.
In the bottom of the ninth hard-throwing southpaw and former Cub Aroldis Chapman shut the door, striking out the side in order to earn his 24th save of the year and ending the Cubs winning streak.
Despite the loss the Cubs sit atop the NL Central division by a comfortable 8.0 games as they return home to face the second place Milwaukee Brewers in a four-game series. Tyler Chatwood (5-2, 4.66) will make the start for the Cubs while Brett Anderson (2-5, 5.67) will be on the bump for the Brewers.
The Cubs have not lost two consecutive games since they dropped a pair to the Cincinnati Reds back on June 4-5.Comment

Re: MLB The Show 20 Franchise Discussion Thread
JUNE 29, 2020
It has been almost two full years since Brandon Morrow donned a big league uniform, but that could very likely change withing the next few weeks. After an injury-plagued last few seasons the 34-year old veteran has worked his way back and is expected to be called up sometime around the All-Star break, barring no further injuries.
"It's been a difficult and often frustrating road," said Morrow who has spent 2020 with both Double-A Tennessee and Triple-A Iowa. "I finally feel good and my numbers show that I can still compete, I just hope to get the opportunity to do it again at the Major League level."
Morrow, who suffered another injury setback this year in Spring Training was had to recover the first two months of the season before being game ready. Morrow pitched simulated games until he was cleared to play in mid-April. After a couple weeks with the Cubs Double-A affiliate, Tennessee Smokies, Morrow was promoted to Triple-A on May 26th. In 10 2/3 innings with the Iowa Cubs Morrow has posted an impressive 0.84 ERA a 1.03 WHIP while striking out 9 batters.
Morrow isn't the only possible up-coming addition to the Cubs bullpen. Southpaw Tim Mayza and Arodys Viscaino, both of whom were signed by the Cubs to one-year deals on May 31st have also been playing in Iowa. Mayza, 27, has posted a 4.76 ERA in 5 2/3 innings with the Iowa Cubs while Viscaino has been knocked around a bit in his 14 innings, allowing 12 runs and 17 hits in just 14 innings of work. However, despite sub-par numbers by Mayza and Viscaino, a call-up still may loom on the horizon as both players have shown the ability to record outs at the Major League level.
President of baseball operations, Theo Epstein has kept all options open throughout 2020 and the signings of Mayza and Viscaino, as well as the possible return of Morrow, might be just what the Cubs need in the second half of the season as they make their playoff push.
"We really like our club right now and the way everyone is playing," said Epstein. "But that doesn't mean there's not room for improvement, there always is."
It's been no secret that the Cubs have been desperately looking for help on the mound, especially in the bullpen by way of trade. The Cubs have been tied to various rumors regarding Blue Jays closer Ken Giles and it looked as if a deal was certain a few weeks ago. While the Cubs are likely still shopping for pitching help, the trio of Morrow, Mayza, and Viscaino could help bolster what has been an inconsistent Cubs bullpen.Comment

Cardinals drop series to Pirates
The Cardinals dropped 2 of the 3 game series against the Pirates in Busch Stadium to kick off the week. The Cardinals won the series opener on Monday in a slugfest, but were unable to keep the bats hot for the final two games only scoring 4 total runs on just 8 total hits.
The Cardinals are back in action tonight as they begin a 4 game series with the Rockies.I can't shave with my eyes closed, meaning each day I have to look at myself in the mirror and respect who I see.
I miss the old days of Operation Sports :(

JUNE 29, 2020 | CHICAGO, IL
The Milwaukee Brewers smacked 16 hits, including three home runs as they routed the Cubs at Wrigley Field Monday night, 11-4. The loss marked the first time since June 3-4 that the Cubs have dropped two consecutive games.
Cubs starter Tyler Chatwood was touched up for 6 runs on 10 hits through just 4.0 innings as he took the loss and fell to 5-3 on the year. Brett Anderson got the win for the Brewers, completing 5 2/3 innings while allowing four runs on nine hits. Christian Yelich continued to be a nuisance as the hit a pair of home runs and drove in five. And Lorenzo Cain was a tough out once again for the Cubs, finishing 4-for-6 on the night.
The Cubs will look to right the ship Tuesday night as Yu Darvish (9-3, 4.79) will take the mound. Eric Lauer (6-1, 2.85) will be on the hill for the Brewers who are looking for their fifth straight win. Milwaukee has lost just once in their last seven games and have had the Cubs number in 2020, winning 7 of 10 thus far. Despite the loss the Cubs still hold a 7.0 game lead in the NL Central division over the Brewers.Comment
