Cardinals are heading to the World Series

The Cardinals are your 2025 National League Champions as they defeated the Phillies in the NLCS in 5 games. The Cardinals will be taking on the Astros who won the ALCS over the Blue Jays, also in 5 games. Due to the better record, the Cardinals will have home field advantage for the World Series.

The Cardinals won the first two games of the NLCS in Philadelphia behind Jack Flaherty and Lucas Giolito, who pitched a complete game shutout in Game 2. The Cardinals won Game 1 thanks to the bats as they slugged their way past Aaron Nola and the Phillies 7-4.

Game 3 was an absolute beat down as the Phillies destroyed the Cardinals in the first game at Busch Stadium, 13-3. The Phillies recorded 23 hits with 5 homeruns. Game 3 was started by Max Fried but he lasted two batters after he took a Brandon Marsh liner off the foot that knocked him out of the game. The Cardinals turned to the bullpen to try to get thru it, but it was over before it started.

Game 4 saw Sonny Gray take the mound and take charge striking out 12 Phillies over his 7 innings of work. The Cardinals would cruise to a 5-1 victory.

Game 5 saw Walker Buehler close things out just like he did in the NLDS against the Dodgers. Buehler went 7.1 before handing the ball to Jeff Hoffman. The Cardinals would win 7-2 and advance to the World Series.

Dylan Carlson and Lars Nootbaar were the absolute stars of the series. Carlson ended up with 2 homeruns and 11 RBIs while Nootbaar hit over .400 with 5 RBIs to go along with 4 doubles.

Max Fried will get the ball in Game 1 of the World Series as he has been cleared by medical staff to return to the mound. Sonny Gray will likely get the ball in Game 2. After that, nothing has been decided.

The Cardinals are 4 wins away from their 12th World Series Championship.

2024 Chicago Cubs All-Star Break Update

Overall Record: 62-36 (1st NL Central/4.5 over St. Louis)

        Game Results:

        Game 1
        Cardinals-2
        Cubs-1

        Game 2
        Cubs-8
        Cardinals-6

        Game 3
        Cardinals-3
        Cubs-2

Cubs lose series to Cardinals as the league heads into ASB

Those pesky Cardinals are still hanging around after they got the best of the Cubs, winning two of three in St. Louis. The season series now sits at 6-3 with the Cubs leading it.

The one game that the Cubbies won was stressful throughout. They got out to a 3-0 lead after scoring those three in the second inning behind a two rbi double by Christopher Morel and a rbi single by Nico Hoerner.

The Cardinals just about erased that lead in the bottom half of the inning as they scored two. A third run nearly scored but Brandon Crawford was thrown out at home to end the inning.

The entire game would go that way with the Cubs taking the lead and the Cardinals turning around and either tying it or making it a one run game. That was until the Cubs took the late lead in the top of the 8th with Seiya Suzuki hitting his 19th homerun of the year to give the Cubs the 8-6 lead. Hector Nerris then pitched a flawless 8th inning and newly called up Carl Edwards JR struck out the side in the 9th for his first save of the year.

Patrick Wisdom did homer in the Cubs losing effort in game three. That homer gives him 40 on the year and he has officially broken Barry Bonds' record for most homeruns before the All-Star break.

He will be the top seed in the homerun derby.

        All Star Festivities

Wisdom ended up losing in the first round of the derby to Kyle Schwarber 15-12. Aaron Judge ended up winning it as he beat Ronald Acuna JR 14-10.

        NL Beat the AL 5-0
Cody Bellinger was the lone Cub starter so I player locked with him and went 1-3 with a double. He also had an outfield assist.

        Patrick Wisdom went 0-1
        Seiya Suzuki went 0-1
Justin Steele pitched an inning, allowed no its and struck out 2

The Cubs will now open the start of the "second half" at home against Arizona (53-44/1st NL West).

Sitting 8.5 games behind the dodgers in the west with about five weeks to go in the season. Arizona has surpassed Philadelphia for the second wild card spot and trails my giants by 2.5 games in the wild card race. The national league west looks like it could have three 100 win teams. It’s going to be crazy. By far the craziest season I’ve ever had along with division and wild card race.

            BRAVES - MAY 2024 UPDATE

We went 21-6 in May and now stand at 42-15 on the season entering June. We have the best record in MLB, but just percentage points ahead of the Dodgers. But we have a comfortable 9.5-game lead on the Phillies in the NL East.

Austin Riley joined Ronald Acuna Jr. and Matt Olson as an absolute terror for NL pitching to deal with. Those three are clearly pacing the lineup. Each is hitting above .300 with at least 15 homers and 43 RBIs. No other Braves regular is hitting above .273. Riley had a five-game home run streak that ended on the final day of the month. Acuna continues his 50/50 quest with 18 homers and 24 steals.

Pitching-wise, after struggling a bit in April, the bullpen had a nice month of May. Max Fried may be letting his pending free agency get to him as he has a 4.13 ERA through two months. And age may be catching up to both Charlie Morton and Jesse Chavez as each has an ERA above 5.

            TEAM RANKINGS

            AVG: .270 (5th in MLB)
            ERA: 3.44 (9 in MLB)

We're on pace to shatter the MLB home run record as we have 122 through two months - 30 more than the second-best team.

Astros dominate Game 1 of World Series

The Astros dominated Game 1 of the World Series in Busch Stadium Friday night. The Astros beat the Cardinals 7-1 behind 4 homeruns and a terrific pitching performance by Framber Valdez.

Things got off to a bad start for the Cardinals before the first pitch was even thrown, as Willson Contreras suffered a lat muscle strain during pre-game warmups. Contreras is listed as day to day and the Cardinals are hopeful he can return by Game 3 in Houston on Monday night.

Jeremy Pena got things started in the 2nd inning with a solo homerun off of Max Fried. In the 5th, things fell apart as the Astros would score 3 runs with 2 outs, that all started with a passed ball by Elias Diaz. The past ball allowed Alex Bregman to move to 2nd and then Chaz McCormick drove him home with a single. After a walk, John Meneses hit a 2 run bomb that made it 4-0.

The bullpen wasn't able to keep things in check as Andrew Kittridge gave up a solo blast to Alex Bregman and John King gave up back to back homers to Kyle Tucker and Yordan Alvarez. By the 7th inning stretch is was 7-0 Astros.

The Cardinals managed to avoid the shutout by pushing a run across in the 9th which chased Valdez from the game, but that would be all they could muster in a 7-1 loss in Game 1.

Sonny Gray will get the ball in Game 2 tomorrow night. Hunter Brown will take the mound for the Astros.

Texas Rangers update. Season 4 MOM.

As we enter September we have 18 games remaining and alot to play for. We are 85 and 59 and currently have a 4 game lead over the Astros. We are also tied with the Twins for the best overall record. Shane Bieber remains number 1 in Cy Young as he attempts to win back to back. Yordan Alvaraz of the Astros is once again headed to another MVP as this would be his 3rd on a row. My offensive leaders are Corey Seagar and Wyatt Langford but my incredible offense has 6 players with over 20hrs. Will update at the conclusion of the regular season

Cardinals lose in heartbreaking fashion in Games 2 and 3

If the Cardinals are going to win their 12th World Series Championship, they are going to have to overcome incredible odds.

The Cardinals lost Games 2 and 3 in extra innings and now trail the Astros 3-0 in the World Series.

Game 2 was an absolute pitchers duel between Sonny Gray and Hunter Brown. Nolan Arenado put the Cards on the board first with a solo homerun in the 4th inning. But the Astros quickly tied it in the 5th when Jose Altuve drove in Corey Julks to even the score at 1. It would go until the 11th inning when Kyle Tucker hit a solo homerun off of Garrett Crochet to break the tie and put the Astros up 2-1. The Cards would go down in order in the bottom half as Bryan Abreu shut the door.

If Game 2 wasn't hard enough to swallow, Game 3 in all likelihood broke the Cardinals spirit. Up 4 runs in the 8th inning, after Willson Contreras returned to the lineup and smashed 2 homeruns and drove in 5, the Cardinals bullpen couldn't hold the lead. Jordan Hicks and Genesis Cabrera combined to give up 4 runs in the 8th inning and watched an 8-4 lead become an 8-8 game. Then in the 10th inning, the Cardinals had two on with one out when Nolan Arenado grounded into an inning ending double play. First batter of the bottom of the 10th, Corey Julks, took an inside fastball from Ryan Helsley and drilled it into the left field stands for the walk-off homerun.

The Cardinals will hand the ball to Jack Flaherty in Game 4. The Astros are giving Cristian Javier the ball to try to clinch the World Series.

Can the Cardinals do the unthinkable?

Cardinals force Game 5 with 4-3 Game 4 win

The Cardinals avoided the sweep Tuesday night as they beat the Astros 4-3 at Minute Maid Park in Houston. The win will force a Game 5 in the World Series.

The Cardinals jumped out early when Alec Burleson bombed a 463ft homerun to right field that damn near hit the big scoreboard and landed on the terrace. But the lead was short lived as the Astros got 2 runs in the bottom of the inning after Jordan Walker misplayed a ball in right field that should've been the third out. Yeiner Diaz would double home Yordan Alvarez and Alex Bregman would single home Diaz for the 2-1 lead.

But the Cardinals fought back with a RBI double from Dylan Carlson in the 4th that scored Nolan Gorman and then Brendan Donovan launched a 2 run homer that I'm still not sure was a homerun to make it a 4-2 ball game.

In the 7th, Yeiner Diaz would take the 13th pitch of his at-bat against Jack Flaherty and put it into the right field stands to make it a 4-3 game. Shelby Miller would get out of the 7th to preserve the lead. Jeff Hoffman and Garrett Crochet would get thru the 8th, and then Ryan Helsley shut the door in the 9th to secure the victory and force a Game 5 in Houston.

The Cardinals will send Lucas Giolito to the mound and the Astros will hand the ball to Jose Urquidy.

Cardinals force series back to St.Louis with Game 5 win

The World Series is heading back to St.Louis for Game 6 after the Cardinals beat the Astros 5-4 in Game 5 in Houston. The Astros lead the World Series 3-2.

The Astros struck first with Jose Altuve going deep in the 1st inning to put the Astros up 1-0. But Lucas Giolito settled down and got thru the 4th before the Astros would score again. In the 5th inning the Cardinals got an RBI double from Nolan Gorman to tie the game at 1, but the Astros would score 2 in the bottom half to make it 3-1 when Kyle Tucker launched a 2 run homerun.

In the 7th the Cardinals scored 4 runs to take a 5-3 lead with Alec Burleson clearing the bases with a double with 2 outs. Then Arenado walked and Willson Contreras doubled him home.

The Astros got one back in the 9th when Yordan Alvarez launched a 450ft homerun to make it 5-4, but Helsley would strikeout both Diaz and Bregman to end the game send it back to St.Louis.

The Cardinals will hand the ball to Max Fried. Not sure who the Astros are sending out.

Cardinals force Game 7 of the World Series

The Cardinals are one win away from doing the unthinkable and winning their 12th World Series Championship.

The Cardinals won Game 6 Friday night in St.Louis 5-3 over the Astros to come back from a 3-0 series deficit to now force a winner take all Game 7 in the World Series.

The Cardinals started fast with Nolan Arenado getting a RBI double in the 1st inning to take a 1-0 lead. The Cardinals would have a 3 run 4th inning, capped by Nolan Gorman's 2 run double to take a 4-0 lead. In the 7th Lars Nootbaar would launch his 6th homerun of the postseason (2nd of World Series) to make it 5-0 and the Cardinals felt they were going to cruise into Game 7 with the way Max Fried was pitching.

But in the 8th, with two outs, Fried would give up a single to Jake Meyers and then walk Jose Altuve, which led to him being replaced by Garrett Crochet to face Kyle Tucker. And Crochet again this postseason couldn't get the needed out and gave up a 3 run homer to Tucker to make it 5-3. Yordan Alvarez was next, and if it wasn't for a great leaping catch by Tommy Edman, who knows how the inning would've ended.

In the 9th, Ryan Helsely came on and gave up a 1 out walk to McCormick but was able to retire Bregman and Joey Meneses to end the game and send the Cardinals to Game 7.

The Cardinals will give the ball to Sonny Gray while the Astros will counter with Hunter Brown. These two had a pitchers duel in Game 2.
I can't shave with my eyes closed, meaning each day I have to look at myself in the mirror and respect who I see.

I miss the old days of Operation Sports :(

Cardinals suffer heartbreak in late game loss in Game 7

The Cardinals were three outs away from doing the unthinkable and coming back from a 3-0 series deficit and clinching their 12th World Series title. But then it happened again, the bullpen was unable to put a game away and the Cardinals will have to wait until 2026 to try to get this close again.

                              This one stings.

The Astros jumped out early when Alex Bregmann hit a solo homerun in the Top of the 2nd off of Sonny Gray to give the Astros the early 1-0 lead. But the Cardinals would tie it in the bottom half after a Nolan Arenado double, was followed by Willson Contreras single and then Nolan Gorman's RBI single to tie the game at 1. It felt like a missed opportunity when the Cardinals were unable to score anymore runs despite having 2 on and no outs.

But in the 5th, the Cardinals would score two more runs on a Nolan Arenado 2 run double with 2 outs to make it 3-1. In the bottom of the 8th, they would get one more wihen Willson Contreras singled home Arenado to make it 4-1. The team, the crowd, the city, believed that the unbelievable was about to happen.

Ryan Helsley came in to close the game after Walker Buehler got them to the 9th by allowing no runs on just a single hit in 3 innings of work. The first batter was Yainer Diaz who would single on the first pitch he saw. Next would be Alex Bregman who would do the same thing. After Joey Meneses struck out, Jeremy Pena would line a double scoring two make it 4-3. Helsley would then be replaced by Jeff Hoffman who had been so good in the series. He would walk Chaz McCormick on 5 pitches and then the man that broke the Cardinals hearts in Game 3, did it again in Game 7. Corey Julks would take a 2-2 hanging slider and blast it into the left field seats putting the Astros up 6-4. Hoffman would strike out Altuve and Kyle Tucker to end the inning but the heartbreak had happened.

The Cardinals would get two on the bottom of the 9th as Dylan Carlson and Brendan Donovan both worked walks with one out, but then Tommy Edman would strikeout and Lars Nootbaar would hit one hard, but would land just into Yordan Alvarez's glove just shy of the warning track in left field as the Astros would clinch the World Series Championship.

To say this one hurts would be a vast understatement. A 3 run lead, 3 outs away, for it to end the way it did, is just a tough loss to take, especially in Game 7 of the World Series.
