Howard is leading the league with homeruns (11) but the team just can not put anything together.

If the month of may goes the same way I may have to make some changes.
You are doing better than me. My Phils squad is 12-17 and my pitching has been awful. All my starting pitchers have ERAs above 4.50, I dont know what is going on. That on top of my hitting woes has been a struggle. I'm 4-2 myself. I hope things improve!

I would say screw it and just start it. I know it's fun to have things as realistic as possible but I start my franchise with Knight's rosters and only control my team and let the cpu control the others. I know "My Franchise" won't be exactly the way the real season plays out but im cool with that. It's "My World" and I let the chips fall where they may and just go with it. I don't have enough time to worry about keeping things as accurate as possible.

I'm with you, although i'll play 1 or 2 preseason games just to test out new players acquired in the offseason, but that's the extent of it.

First thing I did was I signed FA Ben Sheets to a 2-year contract. Ended up retiring after year 1, so yeah, didn't do much.

Then, I traded Andrew McCutchen for Manny Banuelos, Andruw Jones, and Melky Mesa. The Yankees got a top-flight OF who could play at LF for Gardner if need be, and who hasn't even hit his prime yet.

I simulated a few months into the season and Banuelos was struggling, and since I picked up a very solid Gerrit Cole in the draft (I made him a super rookie, since he's supposed to be better than Strasburg), I traded Banuelos for Arnoldis Chapman on the Reds. They get their SP of the future, while I solidify my bullpen even more.

Then, towards the trade deadline, Jose Tabata was having an All-Star season, and since I knew he'd demand a lot cause his contract was expiring, I traded him for Nick Markakis and Derrek Lee.

Offseason hit, and I lost Andruw Jones and Derrek Lee, two key players in both trades. I tried to get David Ortiz, but got another 1B instead. But I got a small upgrade at C in Jason Varitek. Also, I picked up this 26 year old SP and 26 year old CF that I forgot the names. But productive offseason!
Hmm, trying to figure out why you gave up Mccutchen and Tabata? That's who you build around with Walker and G.Jones. Plus, you lost most of the old guys for whom you traded on top of it all.

I always love this thread, I get a kick out of seeing how everyone else is doing in their Franchise. This always been my favorite part of any sports game.

I started a season with my beloved Mets, and I am 3-1. I knocked around the Marlins the first 3 games in the season despite Izzy having one of the worst innings i've ever had. He did not retire a batter: 6 hits 6 runs INFINITY ERA. the ghost of Ollie Perez haunts me still!!

Then, as per my MLB tradition I blew a big lead to the Phillies and lost on a walk off. I am convinced it is programmed in haha My bullpen blew a 7 run lead, and Ibanez beat me on a walk off

And I absolutley love the in-game score updates

Re: MLB 11 The Show "Franchise/Season" Progress Thread

I'm about to start a franchise with the Indians, to see if I can jump start their rebuilding project. They have some solid players in AAA (Chisenhall, Kipnis, Phelps, White, etc) and some other low level A-AA players who are kind of interesting. The last few years I have tried to do franchises with the Orioles and Mariners, but would only get a few months in and lose focus, so I'm hoping that starting with a very different team will help me stay on the grind. I am hoping to keep you guys updated with the details and statistics, because I think it will be interesting.

I am going to update the injuries to real life after I mess around with a few games in Spring Training, and then once Sizemore gets back in mid-April I am gonna put him on the block and shop him for a few prospects to add to the rebuilding movement. Any suggestions on trade destinations for him?

Re: MLB 11 The Show "Franchise/Season" Progress Thread

Started a franchise with the Pirates using Experienced, and OSFM rosters. First thing I did was signed Troy Glaus for 2 years to get a small upgrade at 1B. Then, I traded Andrew McCutchen and a pretty good SP prospect for Arnoldis Chapman, a good SP prospect, and a crap CF prospect. The SP had more of a RP build, so I moved him there, where he could crack my MLB bullpen immediately. I always simulate the first season (so I can draft, and play with, my rookies). Drafted this SP named Justin Bailey. He's 18 years old, A potential, and can throw 100 MPH on occasion! After the offseason and everything, he stands as my 6th-best SP, but I have him on my MLB team, since I kill with his fastball. At the trade deadline, I saw Joba Chamberlain was on the trade block. I got him for some RP and one of my better SP prospects. Offseason hit, and I landed Andres Torres, Edison Volquez (my highest-rated SP now!), J.C. Romero, and Joel Zumaya. So I didn't really go for non-pitcher positions (I have a decent C and SS, and a solid 1B, 2B, 3B, LF, CF, and RF), and I got a lot of depth in my bullpen and starting rotation.

Does anyone ever sim/play a franchise?

I'm going to start one today with my Red Sox, but also wanted to start one with a team that I don't know and that's horrible (Pirates, M's, Royals) and build them into a dynasty. Obviously, that's going to take years. How do you guys fit in playing games and simming games?

Re: MLB 11 The Show "Franchise/Season" Progress Thread

Was simming through spring training (so I could finally play my first game in year 2, after simming year 1), and I wanted to upgrade my pitching even more. My SP sucked, and I saw that the Orioles needed a 1B and had Jake Arrieta on the trading block. I pulled the trigger and swapped him for Troy Glaus straight up. Then I moved Ross Ohlendorf to RP (didn't make a huge difference, but he wasn't in my starting rotation anyways, so now he'll be in my AAA bullpen). Then, I saw Manny Banuelos on the trading block. He was struggling, and the Yankees got Zach Grienke in the offseason, so he wouldn't be used for a while. They were in need of a RP after they lost Rafael Soriano, so I traded Evan Meeks and one of my pitching prospects for Manny Banuelos and David Roberston. Then, I moved Banuelos to RP, because I knew from the start he had the build of a RP, and that's why I traded for him. Now, my bullpen is ranked 3rd, but I think I have the best in the league. I also have 3 pitchers on my MLB team who can throw 100 (might be 4, but I know 3 for sure [and the 3 pitchers are rookie Justin Bailey, Arnoldis Chapman, and Joel Zumaya]).

I personally play a few Spring Training games to get the feel for my pitchers, and new players from the past offseason, and then I just go ahead and start the season. Usually play all games of the first series, and then go every 3rd or 4th game from there on out. I know some guys have mentioned in some other threads about playing every sixth game, that way you can mix up what starters you get to use and still play with the team often enough to feel you're still in charge. That way also has the benefit of allowing the season to go by pretty quickly. I would recommend trying that out and seeing how it works, if you find you have more time then play a bit more often and sim a bit less!

Have fun, enjoy it, its just a game and it'll always be there....well at least till March of 2012

Good stuff here. In the past, I would play every game. I am now playing one game a series. I like this, as I still get some say in how my team performs, but I also let the players' abilities become a factor. About half of my team plays better when the CPU uses them and the other half play better when I use them. It works out to be quite interesting indeed. You also don't get bored of playing the Mariners or Rangers 3-6 games a month.

How I pick which game to play depends on which pitcher is struggling the most, who I have used recently, and of course who the matchup will be. I try to take on an ace whenever I can. There are times where I will use the same pitcher for two straight starts, and other times where I won't pitch with a guy for several weeks because the matchups look dull. I like one game a series better than once every 6th game since I get to play at least one game against every team on the schedule. I am not sure what I will do when the playoffs come, but I will worry about that if/when it happens.

I've decided to play my first 11 games, sim the 12th, and from that point on I'll play 2, sim 1.

I figured this would allow me to establish my own streaks, in hopes that the sims will reflect that.

I'm 2-2 on the year in my Yankees franchise.

I've seen a no-no broken up on a CPU bunt (in the 5th inning), hit a walk off homerun with Andrew Jones, pitched a team shutout, and absolutely had my butt handed to me at the hands of Minnesota.

The game variability this year is out of this world...

I'm only 4 games in and I feel like I've seen it all!

It reminds me of a (rarely) well written Summer blockbuster flick. I never know what's behind the next corner.

Created two franchises- a full 162 gamer with the Tigers and a sim franchise with the Royals. Not too much going on with my Tigers yet, I have played five games and I am 4-1, my offense has been excellent, not so much my pitching with the exception of verlander. My Royals franchise has been a blast though. My first season wasn't great and I had the second worst record in the league but I made some key moves, trading Joakhim Soria to the Yankees for Jesus Montero and a japanese SS prospect who I think was Hak-Ju Lee or something. I also traded Jeff Francis to the Braves for Johnny Venter's. I had a nice pick in the draft so I got a 3B who has superstar potential. Moustakas and pitchers Montgomery, Crow and Duffy were called up mid-way and offered some hope for the future.

In the off season I lost Luke Hochevar. He had good ratings and potential but lost 18 games and I wasn't willing to pay his price so I neglected to offer him arbitration. I signed Spa Scott Olsen and Mark Rogers to take his place. Also signed Joel Zumaya and brought back Jeff Franceour. I just finished my 2012 season, didn't make any moves other than trading alex Ogando (waivers) and a of prospect for SP Aaron Haring so I could send a struggling Crow back to the minors:

                            1. SS Alcides Escobar
                            2. OF Alex Gordon
                            3. C Jesus Montero
                            4. 3B Mike Moustakas
                            5. DH Billy Butler
                            6. 1B Eric Hosier
                            7. OF Lorenzo Cain
                            8. OF Melly Cabrera
                            9. 2B Chris Getz

                            Scott Olsen
                            Mark Rogers
                            Mike Montgomery
                            Danny Duffy
                            Aaron Haring
                            Closer: Johnny Venter's

That's what I was thinking too. Play a few spring games and then dive into the big series and every monday, thursday and sunday or something. Maybe get a season every couple weeks or month. I also forgot I can either just bat or just pitch which helps games go along too (haven't played since 09).

Any suggestions on a bad team with good prospects ready to go? I'm talking like M's, Pirates, Royals, Indians, Marlins, Orioles, Nats???
