Re: 2016 Trade Deadline Thread
Really, LA has Kazmir, Maeda, and Norris as the somewhat sure things (although Norris' 6.72 combined ERA/5.04 combined FIP last year wouldn't make me extremely comfortable with him either). I think Norris' eventual home is in the bullpen there.
After that it's hoping that Urias, De Leon, and/or Stripling can be decent and learn quickly. And I don't think Bolsinger, Stewart, or Frias are being counted on for much of anything.
Even with Kershaw healthy, the Dodgers could've used a solid 2/3 starter. Without him, they might be considering a pair of Tampa starters. Archer and Odorizzi. Archer and Moore. Archer and Smyly. Something like that. It would make sense and any of those guys would love pitching at Chavez Ravine (look at those HR rates!).Chicago Cubs | Chicago Bulls | Green Bay Packers | Michigan WolverinesComment

Re: 2016 Trade Deadline Thread
Yes, but with this current group, everything has to break right, for this team to even get the second wildcard spot.
This is a mediocre team that plays above their heads sometimes.

Re: 2016 Trade Deadline Thread
I still think they will sell. I think they sell off Beltran and Chapman. And then stand pat. I don't see them moving any players that are under contract after this season. And then come back for next year locked, loaded and older.Comment

Re: 2016 Trade Deadline Thread
As do I, and they should. The fan in me gets excited from time to time, but I sincerely doubt they can sustain itm
If they don't sell. They might as well become buyers.

Re: 2016 Trade Deadline Thread
The command has eroded, so he's taken a demonstrable step back this year. But he's still valuable enough that the Rays would probably still get a pretty big return for him, which is why I'm a bit skeptical about getting him.
Yeah, I know Longoria gave the Rays a massive hometown discount a few years ago, but he's getting to the not-so-cheap phase of his contract ($100 million over the next 6 years). That's still a nice bargain for a player of Longoria's ability, but it's not cheap. And Friedman clearly does give a **** about money since he let Zack Greinke walk last year rather than pay him $200 million. The Dodgers have made some rumblings about getting the payroll under the luxury tax threshold, too.
The Dodgers already have a 3B who does a pretty good Longoria impression himself, at a fraction of the cost. If we traded for Longoria, we'd have to bench Utley and play Turner out of position at 2B.
I'm sure Friedman just didn't think Greinke would measurably outperform the guys who were asking for $15m like Kazmir, or Maeda, and that's not being penny pinching, it's just not being dumb. Sure enough, Kazmir hasn't been measurably worse than Greinke by xFIP-, and Maeda has been better. I heard some of Greinke's fancy stats coming into the year weren't great anyhow.
I wasn't arguing that you guys need Longo although you could just shift Turner to 2, no? With Kendrick playing everywhere? Anyway 6/100 is very cheap for a 4+ win player. He's in vintage form this year and most guys who aren't as boring as Tampa players are that put up 4 win players would get paid a lot more than that."Twelve at-bats is a pretty decent sample size." - Eric ByrnesComment

Re: 2016 Trade Deadline Thread
I honestly think the M's should explore trade possibilities for Felix. His trade value is as high as it will ever be, it will decline each year as he gets older. And if he has a steep decline in performance he won't have any value. Pains me to say it as I would hate to see him go. But we aren't making the playoffs this year, trade him to a contender so he has a shot at the playoffs. Felix and D.J. Pederson to the Cubs for Kris Bryant and Schwarber?Green Bay PackersSeattle MarinersNew York Rangers

I wouldn't deal Bryant for anybody right now. Cubs would never deal Bryant.

Re: 2016 Trade Deadline Thread
Felix would be a sub 2.5 ERA pitcher in the NL, add him to that rotation and they will go through the playoffs like the Warriors will go through the NBA next year. So they wouldn't need Bryant lol.Green Bay PackersSeattle MarinersNew York Rangers

Re: 2016 Trade Deadline Thread
You don't deal and up and coming superstar for someone who is closer to the decline of his career than the peak.
Now, I'm a Cardinals fan and I would love nothing more than to see Bryant out of my division and my league...but it isn't happening.
That deal would be criticised by EVERYONE in baseball. Cubs would be a joke.Comment
