Re: Dual Archetypes Confirmed... Thoughts? Combinations?

i really want to play a sharpshooting defender. i know there are different opinions about this archetype combination in general, but i'm quite confident on this. now i can't decide between SG or SF. i assume it's easier to guard the 1-3 as a SG, than guarding 2-4 (including a lot of posterizers and big PFs) with a SF, thoughts?
I have a 6'6" 230 playmaking defender that gets the same defensive attributes as a sharpshooting defender, and at my current ratings of 87 speed, 86 acceleration, and 76 lateral quickness, I feel like that build is just too slow to stay in front of all the 6'5" and 6'4" speed boosting point guards you'll inevitably face online. I only have one attribute upgrade left in speed/acceleration, and two upgrades left on lateral quickness, so I am pretty much convinced that the primary defender build mixed with secondary playmaking or secondary sharpshooting is only meant to guard non-speed boosting archetypes.

I recommend making either a slashing defender or a pure lockdown defender if you want to guard speed boosters online, because the slashing secondary archetype won't drop your defensive ratings as low as playmaking/sharpshooting will.

In fact, I plan on making a pure lockdown defender as soon as I get enough VC to max out his steal and block ratings, since those are the only stats you really need to start upgrading the archetype's key badges.

I like the ante up because it’s mostly good players and nobody double teams. It’s really straight up man and if you suck on D your getting exposed. After playing that then going to the park you realize that 90% of the 2k community totally sucks on defense and only look good because their teammates collapse the paint. I was dunking on so many ppl in ante up.

Yeah agreed, I cannot guard the extremes in the archetype spectrum either: small very fast PG and max height/weight 5.
      Or at least not consistently

Ante up is where you are playing for VC?
      Never tried it

Haven't been to active on these forums this year as I haven't been playing as often compared to previous years.

Just an update on my 6'7 230 SF Sharpshooting/Defender (Defender Primary). This build really needs some TLC in order to see some results. I was really doubting this build at first but once the badges and attribute upgrades starting coming, I'm starting to play more how I envisioned this player to play. I'm 87 OVR right now with my "highest" badges being silver defensive stopper and chasedown artist (these go to gold) as well as silver catch & shoot. I've had park games of 17/7/4/4/3 and I've had games where nothing was falling and I was getting scored on like I wasn't a defender-primary build. Still lots of room for improvement though.

          Defense Pros:
-good lateral quickness and strength (via bruiser) will help you stay with your man. Even if he gets by you and drives, the chasedown animation will help block/contest. I've had some nasty chasedown blocks which is truly enjoying to watch.
-good rebounder when in position (hustle rebounder). I think I've only had 1 or 2 rebounding attribute upgrades so there's room for improvement.
-I intercept tons of steals that I don't get with my other players
-I feel like defensive stopper should follow you regardless of what position you're guarding. Just becasue I'm not guarding my position (or 1 up/down) shouldn't mean my defensive prowess takes a hit. I want to be Kawhi good being able to guard 1-4.

          Defense Cons:
-snatchback dribbles give me issues. I feel like my recovery time should be better. Too many times I feel like my change of direction isn't fast enough
-Being 6'7, you are still outmatched by 7'0+ inside bigs. You can handle stretch bigs in the paint however.
-Being a hybrid defender build means there will be some buckets scored on you that'll make you question if you should've went full lockdown. Just accept it for what it is - you're an above-average defender but not elite.

          Offense Notes:
-the badge variety is outstanding and makes a huge difference once you get them. Definitely makes you play above your ratings.
-Do not give yourself the green light on offense. Take open shots, drive the lane when it is given to you and your offense will be more reliable.
-the dunking ability is surprisingly good. Nothing better than hitting a 3, getting a block, then do an athletic dunk on the other end.

          TLDR:
The Sharpshooting/Defender build is one of the most frustrating builds I've tried. With some patience and grinding, things are starting to come around. The variety of badges you get are awesome and you can impact the game in many areas. Very challenging player to play with which I thoroughly enjoy.
Yeah got mine to 89. Love the build. Ended up making another build unfortunately since everyone I play with is shorter than 6'6 and my dude was 6'8. Not awful against big man, but I am finding just being 6'11 without a defensive archetype I am better equipped to rebound and body bigger dudes. The worst part was trying to get deep range deadeye with 75 three. Seemed rough in game or in practice.

You have enough speed with the ball to push the transition (especially after a rebound tks to the gold 1 man fast break) and enough passing accuracy to hit the open man/cutter from mid court if you have the right vision and timing.

You have a pretty decent mid range - 3 game, and you can be effettive playing the 4 too (last night I was one rebound shy to a triple double in pro am).

Gold dimer, gold flashy passer and bronze chasedown artist can be game changer and a lot of fun to use.

Only drawback is the silver posterizer instead of gold, but I can live with that.
Ha, I would kill for Gold Dimer, but I'll settle for Silver. I'm grinding for Hall of Fame OMFB break right now and Gold Posterizer. I wish I would have made this build sooner instead of a Sharpshooting Shot Creator or even my Slashing Rebounder. I prefer to play an all around game (mainly off the ball) so this build is just perfect for me. Haven't picked up my other archetypes since then.

Gold bruiser is so difficult to unlock as a perimeter player that I will probably never get it on my playmaking defender.

I do have silver bruiser on three of my characters, and it's not really noticeable on any of them because the stamina drain on dribble moves is so slow this year, and almost everyone who's a guard or wing player has the tireless scorer badge, which lets them score easily even when they have no stamina left.

And you can't really take advantage of bruiser with a full court press defense this year since the "stonewall" animations are gone, and the dribbler will just blow by you if you attempt to hold him up in the backcourt.

Ha, I would kill for Gold Dimer, but I'll settle for Silver.
The teammates you're passing to will only receive a 1.5% increase in greens and a 2.5% increase in makes going from silver to gold dimer.

on the other way the sharpshooting SF got more and nicer badges (e.g. Rim Protector silver, Putback silver, Hustle Rebounder bronze, brick wall bronze)

and please give me some suggestions for height and weight
I have a sharpshooting defender 6'10" SF almost 91 overall i can guard 2-4 very well. I play PF for my pro am team so only problems i have is is rebounding against 7'3" behemoths that are quite often at the 4 i can hold my own and understand the rebound mechanics very well so i get my share of boards to at least match my opponent but its a lot of work every possession just grabbing and pulling at them making sure they dont ever take a dominant position, with that said i would go 6'8" sf if you will primarily be playing the 3, only advantage of playing the 2 is being able to play against pgs but playing at the 3 makes you a little bit more versatile. Your length and above average athleticism should be enough to bother anybody except elite behemoths that really understand the cheese mechanics in the paint and even then you can be a great disruptor.

I hope the system keeps improving! I feel like a little balance is necessary, the 7'3 340 lbs is annoying as well as other key sizes/builds. I feel like any guard under 6'4 is at a disadvantage as well (pro am). Someway to make your player a little more unique would be nice. Like dual archetypes but then you can move X amount of points around to fit your playstyle a little more.

Anyone have any thoughts on how to improve the system?

I've got it on my SF playmaking defender, it's incredibly helpful. I do that bump out animation every time somebody tries to blow by me that's a perimeter player. It's almost laughable, no wing player can blow by me lol even if they're faster than me.

Make the guys who are supposed to be slow, actually slow in the game.

                        That'd be nice.

His decision should be based on the teammates he's surrounded with.

Default weight should be fine. Not much to gain going lower and you're already not athletic so no need to go higher.

That's what I told him. Problem is we don't know either, lol

I suppose having a SF would be a better fit, as we always have plenty of combo guards, but I wasn't sure if there'd be matchup problems in the future that I'm unaware of right now.

My 6'6" 230 playmaking defender gets blown by on a regular basis by shorter, lighter, and weaker players who have no bruiser badge to counter my silver bruiser.

This play that I've cued up at 9:56 is a good example of what I see on a nightly basis, despite being taller, heavier, and stronger than 95% of the point guards that I'm matched up against:

                                <iframe width="560" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/AwhTzRVN8eg?start=596" frameborder="0" gesture="media" allow="encrypted-media" allowfullscreen></iframe>

I get that bullfighter "ole" defense animation at least 2 or 3 times per game whenever I'm guarding people with this playmaking defender.
