Re: Sim style Gamplay ..... (Sim style for the guys who don't know what cheese is)
We all love sports video games and that is why we are here.
I just think everyone has there own degree of how serious or how casual they approach video sports gaming.
I am a hardcore sim type guy offline. Online it is so difficult to keep it sim like you always get guys who are win at all costs type of players and that is why online gaming (lobby games) to me at least is the ghetto and offline is the the palace.
Leagues, if you can get the right guys (so very hard I mean really really hard) can be very rewarding and a lot of fun. But you always get one or 2 chessers and of course you always get the guys who complain like little bitches in school yard who are not good at the game so they think everyone is chessing when in reality they suck and are getting their *** handed to them.
I agree with an earlier poster that "sim style" has become so cliche. It is sad.
LOL anyway it's all good we are talking about video games. Life can be a lot worse don't you think?Last edited by Todem; 09-13-2010, 08:33 AM.Comment

Re: Sim style Gamplay ..... (Sim style for the guys who don't know what cheese is)
Trust me guys...playing sim online and finding a good online sim game is not difficult. I've played some guys I've met in this forum and the games have been great...I've played guys on Live 10 and 2kComment

Not around here. I agree you can find some guys here to play great games.
But putting together leagues is an exercise. At least that is what I have been experiencing lately.Comment

Re: Sim style Gamplay ....the Bible. (for the guys who don't know what cheese is)
well from all the vids of 2k11 the cpu plays excellent help D so no excuse now. Guys just to have confidence in themselves and step their D up. If you get beat off teh dribbl then switch players to stop the ball, if you see someone cutting to the paint step away from ballhandler and knock the ball of the air. I thought this community was different than the 2k board communtiy after all these years but now i see we go alot of those types here.
I just see it this way because ive been playing 2k for 9 years now. I value what 2k has done in the series. This year they gave us back defensive stance and cut off that we had in 2k8. Truth be told off ball defense isnt bad BUT if your opponent does it the entire game it shows a lack of skill. the "hot potatoe" defense is the lowest of the low. When i face those types whether ranked or forum challengers i just quit the game.Last edited by Teebone21; 09-13-2010, 09:49 AM.Comment

Re: Sim style Gamplay ..... (Sim style for the guys who don't know what cheese is)
From what I've encountered, to beat cheese, you have to cheese yourself. If the other guy is playing legit, you can counter that with sim play. I will never go down to that cheese level, so I rarely play online.. maybe 4 games in 5 yearsComment

Re: Sim style Gamplay ..... (Sim style for the guys who don't know what cheese is)
Newmoon, please explain this to me: Suppose you're playing the Celtics, Rondo has the ball. Maybe I want to control his defender and defend 1-1, maybe I control my center to protect the basket in case he beats his man and drives to the rim. Or maybe I feel that the AI is doing a bad job on chasing Ray Allen around the court and I also feel that I control his defender rather than anybody else.
How could any of this be cheesing or 'letting the CPU play defense for me' ?
I always thought that defense is a major team effort. You're always only controlling 1/5th of your team at once so the AI is always playing defense for you - always. The action is not only 'where the ball is' but rather everywhere.
Especially if you ever tried to play zone defense in 2k. You have to constantly watch out for open shooters and switch to a defender nearby if you suspect a pass to a good outside scorer.
That still holds true for man-to-man defense. It doesn't matter whether I play the on-ball defender or somebody completely away from the ball, I always have to work and look out on defense. There is nothing cheesy about it.
I love playing offball, and I refuse to be a "mad switcher" and switch around every pass. I take my time and try to stay in good position regardless of where I'm at on defense. As long as you are realistically using offball defense there's nothing wrong with it, even if it's on the other side of the court. You can still get burned especially on reboundingLast edited by fluent2332; 09-13-2010, 10:10 AM.Comment

Re: Sim style Gamplay ..... (Sim style for the guys who don't know what cheese is)
#2...You need owners who don't even really care what team they have...They need to be more committed to the League Experience than the team or their result in the league
#3...Focus on Quality over Quantity...I'd prefer a solid league of 8 guys over 30 random guys that I have to babysit.
#4...You can't be too rule heavy...Participants should not feel like its a a chore to know the rules. You want guys to play naturally and have fun.
#5...never let guys just randomly call out teams...Always have some sort of lottery or fair method allowing participants to select teams in an equal manner.
Those are my items to start a successful leagueComment

Re: Sim style Gamplay ....the Bible. (for the guys who don't know what cheese is)
doesnt really matter i will just run screens for the person you are guarding and make you come on the forum complaining about lack of defense online. Same thing happens everytime i play people here. with your perspective you belong on that "other site".

Exactly these guys are just pointless when it comes to what sim is, Off ball d is completely sim your applying assitance to your defense, In real life if i'm guarding someone and my boys guarding another player i'll tell him look for the screen or play your man tight while i'm guarding my player..OH!..Is that cheesing because i'm giving him tips and he's doing what i tell him>...NO!..its called defense assistance and its in the game get over itComment

Re: Sim style Gamplay ..... (Sim style for the guys who don't know what cheese is)
Don't you all realize that some real NBA/teams don't meet some of these requirements for "Sim" gamestyle? So then that means if NBA 2k11 was as close as real life as possible - you'd still be complaining
Everybody has a certain style of gaming they like to play (just like in real life). The Detroit pistons & New York Knicks in the late 80's didn't play "Sim" at all, they were very anti-sim.
If you have a certain way of playing this game, find a league that has rules you like, and go from there. But don't sit up here and claim that your way should be the way it should be. Aside from glaring bugs and exploits, the game has been and will be a realistic depiction of real life basketball.Comment

Exactly. Plus I would argue it's more simulation to let the computer play defense at times since the ratings and A.I. SHOULD mimic how they play defense in real life. There's nothing more sim than that. And I've been playing that way since NBA 2k8, where my feedback ratings were sky high because I played exactly how real teams would play.
