From my experience at Congressional, that Monday and Tuesday practice rounds are the best two days IMO. Less people, golfers are "working" but are very cordial and know that more weekend hacks are there watching. Have fun, take lots of pictures for us.

I was at Congressional the last time the US Open was there as well, and I was also at a practice round when the Open was at Oakland Hills many (many) moons ago...I have to agree w/ N51_rob on this one - the practice rounds at Oakland Hills were much more fun (Tiger's first Open, I believe - tells you how long ago that was). I was at Congressional on the last day when Rory won, and it was bordering on miserable. Part of it was that it was about 90-degrees with pretty much 100% humidity, and coupled with an insane crush of people everywhere you went, I literally felt like I couldn't breathe while standing around the 18th green. The whole last hour I was pretty much just looking forward to getting back home.

You probably won't have that problem (with the heat) in Washington - that was a distinctively D.C. thing, for anyone that's ever had the misfortune to be there during the summer time - but the amount of people is just overwhelming. You'll have a great time, and the seaside course just makes it that much more awesome to walk around the grounds.

Just promise us you'll yell out "SINISTERALEX!!!!!" after a drive by some marquis player so we can catch it on TV while watching at home.

I'll definitely be taking loads of pictures. I'll have my DSLR camera ready with numerous battery packs and SD Cards ready come US Open time lol.

I live just outside Vancouver so I'm pretty accustomed to our June weather. As for the yelling I can't make any promises, don't want to get kicked off the course haha.

I was just joking. Please don't do that. I hate when people do that. I don't even understand why they yell some of the stuff they do (what the hell is with the "mashed potatoes!" thing, anyway?).

And you might well get booted from the Open if they catch you yelling stuff - having been to a few PGA tournaments, I have to say the US Open is the most hardcore by a wide margin. At Congressional, they make you walk through a metal detector and no cell phones or other devices are allowed (which made it kinda hard to coordinate things w/ people in your group, but whatever - you manage the old fashioned way). Plus, depending on how willing the gallery is to rat you out, the marshals will walk your rear outta there for any tomfoolery.

            Still, it'd be hilarious...(!)

Today I decided to cut down my SLDR-S to my usual 44.5 (Was 45.5).
Just didn't like the feel of choking down on it.

Replaced the grip with a Golf Pride CP2 Wrap

This was the first time I've cut down a graphite shaft but all went well..

Since you mentioned the SLDR....I love that driver. I've been stripping the ball. My FIR has gone up about 25% so far this season and there is still room to improve and for some reason on the back 9 my gentle fade becomes a straight left dart, so I have to realign when I get tired.

It's funny you say that as for me when I hit the back 9 around 11-12th hole I start blocking slightly right. Assuming it's due to just not getting a full rotation due to fatigue..

I also love the SLDR (S for me).. When I strike it center the ball flies! Although slope helped a bit but longest so far is 270.
Average so far though is 240 due to a 123 yard top lol (260 without the top)

I'm currently at 47% fairways hit.. Hoping this adjustment gets it improved.

Here's the grip I went to..

                    Re: The OS Golfer's Thread!

Played the best round in a long time and possibly ever as I shot 83 yesterday. I shot 43 on front and 40 on back which consisted of 3 straight birdies. I took a snowman on a par 4 after pulling tee shot into the creek that goes down right hand side. Then pitched over green and then chipped darn near off after catching thin. Still I was excited about that round.

The wind was taken out of my sails a bit when my buddy aced the 17th on pure luck. His shot was left of green and shot, but catches mound, bounces straight up, comes down and rolls down mound onto green and into the hole. Craziest thing I've ever seen.

Ready to go out and play again!
I can't shave with my eyes closed, meaning each day I have to look at myself in the mirror and respect who I see.

I miss the old days of Operation Sports :(

Great job, man! Nice score as well. I haven't witnessed a hole in one yet, that must've been awesome. Did he buy drinks!?

I played yesterday, really have lost my swing, not sure what's going on. Shot an 87, my 10 handicap has ballooned to a 14.5 now.

Positive note though was my putting was so good yesterday. Had one 3 putt the entire round, I just couldn't get consistent with my long game. My teacher went MIA, so not sure where to go from here, really, really, do not want to learn online like I have for the past 10 years - but it's going to be a long season if I don't straighten this stuff out.

                        Re: The OS Golfer's Thread!

Been playing well since my last post, established a 1 HCP for leagues this year so far, which is the best golf I've played in years.

I was -2 through 16 holes yesterday. Playing fantastic on a challenging course and I got greedy on #8 (Started on 10). It's a relatively long par 5 that I've never tried to go for in 2, and the green is surrounded on three sides by water. I hit a solid drive and was about 250 out. So, I figure why not, I'm playing so amazing today. Had 7 birdies already and could do no wrong. I pipe my two iron dead at the pin, but as the ball reaches the water, the wind picks up out of nowhere and knocks my ball down a hair short of the green and it rolls back into the water ala Tin Cup. I get up to the hazard, take my drop and skull my wedge over the green and back into the drink. Drop #2 I chunk into the water short. So I'm now hitting 8, and finally get on. Miss my first putt but I've got a tap-in left. Being careless because I'm just fuming at this point and I lip out for an 11. Safe to say I lost that hole. Next hole is driveable for me if I swing out my *** at 320, so I do, and I drive it OB. Second drive lands in a greenside bunker. At this point I just want to get out of there beecause I've never collapsed at the end of a round quite like this and my golf demons are beginning to resurface. So when it's my turn, I just go right up to my ball and swing and hole out for par. Instant mood shift. Obviously not what it could have been but a 75 is OK with me with an 11.

Today was a sandbagging day for me in my league.

Still won a few skins but played awful.

No I actually bought him a drink. It was the only way to get him to shut up. LOL

                            I would kill for a 14.5 handicap...

Wow. Just completely horrible day on the links this past weekend (in terms of how I played...lovely weather and enjoyable day regardless). I'm continuing to work through some relatively major swing changes, so there will be more days like that than not. But still, high-90's is just a bust of a day from any perspective.

On the plus side, I did flush a few better than I ever have before, so I feel like I'm close. Although I keep saying that. I'm like Tiger from a few years ago (in terms of what I say, not how I play...) - I keep thinking "I'm close....".

I'm going through the same thing.

I've always had a natural cut which more often than not turns into a slice (always had a real nice inside out swing in baseball) and I put a lot of work in over the winter to reverse it to a draw.

It's been challenging and I've hit some beautiful shots that are showing promise but they are followed with just as many bad shots.

It gets a little disheartening at times but I'm determined to solidify my swing within the next couple years.
