I try and get perfect stats and perfect sliders when that's just not possible with the current state of madden, and how broad sliders are.
We've all been there man.

You have to essentially approach it with NO expectations. If you start seeing something you don't like (maybe your opposing QB starts off hot), is there something you can adjust? Can you do a coach adjustment, change the matchups, is it a weakness of the scheme you selected or just the fact you have sucky players? If you can approach these situations from a coach's perspective and not a "what slider is broken" perspective, you'll a) find it is way more immersive and b) you will find solutions that are more effective.

The other thing; if things seem "easy" ask yourself if how YOU are playing looks like real life. It's been my experience that the biggest culprit to people finding AP too easy is in the passing game. Why, because they run out of the pocket (or back up 10 yards) to buy time on nearly every play. Here's the problem; you skew the passing angles, coverage angles, and throwing lanes. So, the CPU coverage may actually be effective...if you step in the pocket like you're "supposed to". Let me tell you, if you haven't already, mastering the art of stepping up in the pocket under pressure and throwing on-time is one of the most rewarding (and challenging) things you can do on Madden.

One other little thing...NEVER react to the first game using a changed slider setup (and never reset them before each game). The first games always get a little weird...so get through that first CFM game, then play 2-3 more....you should start to see the differences from game-to-game.

Alright thanks again man. I scrounge and scrounge for non existing prefect sliders. But I just need to take a breath go in with no expectations (like you said) and see where it takes me. Last couple questions (sorry to keep bothering, just tryna get the best experience).
1.) How do you call plays? Coach suggestions or actually dive in the PB and pick them?

2. How do you play defense? User the DLine, LBs, simply hold L1? Switch, don't switch?

1. I call my own plays.

On offense, I usually start with a broad set of plays and narrow them down based on what is working. If I am aware of a mis-match early, I will try to exploit it (in a realistic manner....not spamming 4-verts every play).

On defense, I stay in-line with real life numbers and rush more than 5 on less than 1/3 of my plays (many Madden players think "blitz heavy" means like 70% blitz calls...."blitz heavy" in real life is about half that (35-40% is usually tops). I DO avoid the Double A gap nickel formations as it is fairly cheesy as the CPU doesn't doesn't seem to handle the guys in the A gaps very well.

2. I start with a d-lineman/edge (I find usering a DB or LB to be boring). I DO switch, but I like to watch my guys make plays too. I have no hard-and-fast rules here, but I tend to switch only when the play gets to the next level....and even then, not always. It's more of a "I switch when I think I need to"....yeah, it is a slightly weird style

One other thing. On offense, I use high/low passes and the left stick for guided passes all the time (making it harder, but more rewarding, to throw)...and I also select the receiver's catch mechanic on many plays.

(and I am happy to help. Just one other thing...I think sometimes people try so hard to NOT take advantage of the CPU, that they stay away from things that are actually more challenging to execute well and wind up making the game too easy for themselves. )

Love this post. This is how I go into it and it is so much easier to accept things. Good stuff as always Josh.

With MM 10 inj, did you still see the same amount of injury frequency?

Franchise SIM is dead. Find your favorite iterations and play it forever. Card games are whats "now" and games will cater in that direction and forget realism.

Just have fun and play :)

I'll see what I see in User vs CPU.

======================================

In general news:

I reverted the MM Injury value back to 40. Frankly speaking, it plays a better overall and more challenging game. The previously referenced concern with zone coverage defenders playing a more static role seems to be schematic in nature (i.e. slot CBs look to play the run more, so they are looking in a bit more and are thus a bit slower to react in coverage while Zone and Man guys play more appropriate to their schemes).
Cool, glad to see you decided to stick w 40 for MM inj as I observed a lot of same pros/cons you mentioned a few posts up.

I’ll be firing up a fantasy draft cfm any day now And playing thru all pre season games cpu v cpu before finalizing the set and some other interesting finds I’ve found within the player traits that have blown this game wide open for me, including the coveted DPI and offsides calls that have seemed to escape us in years past (without jacking up penalty sliders might I add..!)

On a side: I’ve spent the last 5 years building a sports marketing company (basically since I was last on this forum) and we are launching a promotion with Richard Sherman as well so it’s pretty awesome that I’ve gotten back into madden at this stage in life. It’s a much needed break from the business life! If you’re cool with it josh id like to link here when it launches on the 22nd? We’ve Partnered with him to run a $10,000 sweepstakes.

Not to be a downer but regardless if Josh is cool with it Operation Sports doesn't allow you to link to offsite promotions.
