Update

Time for a quick update on what's ahead

Since I played last year's so long up until release of this years, I've not got the game yet. I probably will at some point in December whenever it drops a little more in price.

I'm still not in the basketball mode yet and that's not likely to change with football season still going on. When you factor in Christmas, new year's then my cruise getting back Jan 15th. It makes the most sense to wait till all that is over and start up mid Jan range when everything stops and its peak wintertime.

When I first had the ideal to do 3 years and using retro players, I had 1 guy in mind I wanted to use. The way they implemented the old stuff is going to line up perfectly with that. Since I believe the start today feature is back I'll sim the 1st year then have 3 full years to use this.

In my off time from posting here I've been working on my YouTube channel. Which means I've improved my photo making skills. I'll finally be able to add the 2 expansion teams I've been wanting to add for 5 years.

I've not checked out the other NBA dynasty reports being made as I wanted to post this before as I will be building it around the one player. I also haven't made up my mind on using current teams or past from that year.

Update part 2

Alright it's that time again I picked up NBA 2K23 over the weekend. I've started my test sims and will do that till likely later in the week.

Truthfully I'm not really into the NBA mood like I usually am. But now that the holidays, vacation and football are basically done its time to change that. Once I get into this I'm sure that will change.

I contemplated using full old school rosters, but I think I will pass on that for now it is something I want to do maybe for the 2nd part of this. I will still be doing the 3 year rebuild format use modern NBA rosters.

Thankfully start today is back so I will be simming the half year then taking over my team after the draft lottery. This will allow me to have 3 full years with who i'll be building around and not waste a year tanking.

I have tried to add the 2 expansion teams a few times and never did. So I'm thinking about adding them the first offseason. Since I've got a YouTube page now (not video game related) I can make the logo and should make for a good court without the background in the pics. I'll test out how 2K uses them.

I will be using a historic draft class with a twist more on that later. I'll be looking for some feedback on what the overalls will be for the top 2 guys.

Last time studbucket was the DeFacto GM for OKC and that was a fun twist. So if anyone wants to do that once this gets rolling let me know.

In the past I've done full 30 team control where I did everything for all teams. I may look at doing less of that. That way I don't get bogged down overthinking stuff in the offseason. I'll still control the major stuff as I don't trust the CPU AI.

How I play I supersim the games and jump in around the 3rd/4th quarter if its close. I will also play about 1-2 full length games per month and have a deeper posting of those. My skill level isn't that great so you won't see me winning every game I play.

Posting Style I'll keep the same format as my previous franchise reports which is built around pics and shorter articles. I won't have recaps of every game i'll come up with some kind of summary maybe monthly.

Injuries Since I sim a lot of games your see some injuries that way don't think the game has many when you play

In House Rules
Can only trade one first round pick from a draft that won't be made
Can't sign a star level FA unless special circumstances or I have playoff sucess

Team
I will pick one of the teams that ends 1st or 2nd after the draft lottery

Length
I'll sim the half a year then go 3 years after that. I don't plan on going years 4-6 like last year as I want to do some classic rosters and this will take several months.

Expansion
2 will be added after the next year. I'll likely go 8 man protect for the draft

Draft Classes
I'll be using mostly retro draft classes. The 1st one is a hybrid with some current guys mixed in. I'll be combining some retro draft classes together as some years have a few cool names, but no depth.

30 Team Control?
In the past I've done full 30 team control where I've done everything and that takes about 1 week just for the offseason. I think I'll test out not doing as much like maybe simming the 2nd round of the draft and lesser FA's. I'll still control the trades and key FA's. Hopefully this will speed things up a bit and make it easier on me without effecting much on here.

Misc
A few things I've noticed in test that worry me is I'm not getting a notification when a player is back from a injury.

I would always sign the 2nd round guys to full NBA deals then swap them to 2 ways after it moved into the season. I found this easier to fill out the roster then during the offseason. It doesn't look like you can do that this year.

I also didn't see a way to sign someone to a 2 way deal you drafted unless I missed it

Yea definitely that was fun last year. I'm sure you're looking for some redemption as somehow the team you build didn't do much. Just let me know which team your wanting. It shouldn't interfere with my plans since I don't know how I'll pick till the lottery results.

I waited a few days to see if anymore trades were going to be made in real life. Since I'm not expecting any major moves in real life I'll go ahead and start making some over the next few days. I want to get the 1st season over fast and get on to the fun offseason stuff
