Cardinals split mini series with Tigers in St.Louis

The Cardinals (59-50) split their mini 2 game series with the Tigers mid-week in St.Louis. The Cardinals though find themselves 1/2 game up on the Reds in the Central as the Reds struggled with the Cubs.

The Cardinals lost Tuesday night despite a good outing by Carlos Martinez. He went 7 innings giving up 2 runs on 5 hits with 4 strikeouts, but received little offensive help. The Cardinals only offense was from Nolan Gorman who recording both RBI's in a 3-2 extra innings loss, including the game tying homerun in the 9th to send it to extras.

On Wednesday Jake Odorizzi earned his major league best 13th win of the season as the Cardinals provided offense and runs to a 7-2 victory. Paul Goldschmidt led the way with 3 RBI's including a 2 run homerun in the first. Tommy Edman who was moved to leadoff this game, went 1 for 1 with a homerun, 2 RBI's and 3 walks.

The Cardinals remain in St.Louis as they welcome the Reds to town for a pivotal 4 game weekend series. With the Brewers 4.5 back, the Cardinals can get a comfortable lead with a sweep or at least put some distance between them and the Reds with a series win.

Cardinals activate Nolan Arenado, option Edmundo Sosa

The Cardinals have activated 3B Nolan Arenado from the 10 Day IL. Arenado was there with a sprained knee. With Arenado coming back into the lineup, the Cards optioned IF Edmundo Sosa to Memphis where he will be the everyday SS to get consistent at-bats. Gorman was thought to be going down, but with Malcolm Nunez playing well at 3rd base and Devin Mann at 2nd base, there wasn't a spot for him to get everyday at-bats, so he will remain in St.Louis for the time being. Sosa is expected to return with the September call ups in 3 weeks if no prior.
I can't shave with my eyes closed, meaning each day I have to look at myself in the mirror and respect who I see.

I miss the old days of Operation Sports :(

RED SOX LINEUP LEAVES EIGHT ON BASE AGAINST MARINERS, WIN 20-2

As we've talked about before, the Red Sox have had a very inconsistent season so far in 2022, but they are still winning games, and entering Saturday night against the Mariners held a 3.5 game lead over the second place Yankees. The Red Sox were fortunate enough to push that lead to 4.5 with a monstrous 20-2 victory.

The Red Sox started the game slow, not scoring until the second inning, when they put two runs on the board after J.D. Martinez singled home Rafael Devers and Martinez scored on an error. They would score three more runs in the third inning before Seattle shut them down in the fourth inning. This would be the last time the Red Sox didn't score until the ninth inning.

Xander Bogaerts had the big hit in the fifth inning when he hit a bases-loaded double to center field, scoring all three runners after the center fielder Julio Rodriguez dogged it to the ball. The Mariners would get a run back in the bottom of the sixth inning when catcher Cal Raleigh crushed a solo home run to right field, this made the score 11-1. The Red Sox finally hit their first home runs of the game when Trevor Story and Devers when back-to-back in the top of the seventh inning, bringing their run total to 13.

The Red Sox would end their onslaught in the eighth inning when they scored a season-high seven runs, with five of them coming on home runs from Kike Hernandez and Alex Verdugo, pushing the score to 20-1. The Mariners would score their only other run in the bottom of the eighth inning when Adam Frazier doubled to center field scoring Kyle Lewis from first base.

With all this offense, most people forget that Nick Pivetta threw seven and a third innings, giving up two runs on five hits, while also striking out five to earn his third win in as many starts. The Red Sox batters worked their way through six Mariners pitchers, with the only one to not give up a run being Sergio Romo, who worked an inning and a third. Diego Castillo gave up four runs, but none of them were earned.

The Red Sox and Mariners will conclude this series Sunday afternoon as Chris Sale (8-4, 4.22 ERA) takes the mound against Logan Gilbert (5-4, 4.45 ERA)

          LEAGUE NEWS:

There were a few trades made in the past week, including one by the Red Sox. The Red Sox acquired Reds utilityman Brandon Drury for veteran infielder Christian Arroyo and outfield prospect Tyler McDonough. Drury, 29, has endured a miserable season thus far, but a deeper dive into his numbers show he has been the victim of bad luck, and a victim of a poor surrounding lineup. Drury has spent most of the season at third base, but the Red Sox announced they plan to have him fill their super utility role. Arroyo, 26, will step into the Reds lineup as their everyday third baseman. McDonough, 22, was the Red Sox 17th best prospect entering the season, and will report to Double-A for Cincinnati.

The other trades made this week were as follows. The Diamondbacks traded relievers Keone Kela and J.B. Wendelken to the Blue Jays for thee prospects, pitcher Eric Pardinho, shortstop Miguel Beltre, and outfielder Sebastian Espino.

The White Sox traded infielder Josh Harrison to the Dodgers for a pair of prospects. Pitcher Kendall Williams and catcher Carson Taylor.

The final trade of the week came from a pair of division rivals, the Cardinals and Pirates. The Pirates sent reliever Jose Quintana and Chris Stratton out for a couple minor leaguers, pitcher Johan Oviedo, and third baseman Malcom Nunez.

Closing in on the postseason in my Tigers- All 162 Franchise.

Simply put, one of the most satisfying and rewarding experiences in sports gaming, is finishing an all 162 played season.

This game offers the most diverse storylines and immersive franchise experience, in my opinion. The variety you see from game to game, week to week, month to month is just off the charts.

I'll provide a nice overview once I wrap things up, 13 games left! We are 6 games up on the CHW for 1st in the Central.

Been a hell of a ride.

Welp, the Blue Jays just lost George Springer for the rest of the season to a broken foot on a slide into 2nd base in the 9th inning of a 2-0 loss to the Rangers.

Devastating blow for Toronto to lose its leadoff hitter and OF anchor. Springer had 42 HRs and 84 RBIs on the season, both 2nd-best on the team behind Vlad Jr.

Toronto had to immediately roll into a crucial 3-game series with AL East leading Tampa Bay. The Rays won 10-6 in the opener to increase its lead to 1.5 games. Blue Jays are just 1 game ahead of the Yankees for 2nd place and the AL's 2nd wild card. Seattle and Los Angeles are tied for the AL West lead and are 2.5 games back of the 2nd wild card.

              17 games to go.

2022 Arizona Diamondbacks NLDS Game 1

                Final Score
                Arizona-7
                Los Angeles-4

Arizona takes opening game of NLDS against Los Angeles

The Dodgers had to come from behind in the National League Wildcard game to bet the San Diego Padres who led 3-0 going into the 8th inning. The Dodgers were able to fight back and send that game to overtime where they eventually won 4-3 in extra innings.

That win lead to the first and second place NL West teams facing off in the National League Divisional Series.

Today, that series got underway with Los Angeles taking the early lead off a first inning solo homer by Mookie Betts. That lead however did not last long as Arizona scored two of their own in their half of the first with their two offensive MVP's Ketel Marte and Carson Kelly knocking in a run a piece.

The freight train himself, David Peralta ended up being the game one MVP as he helped Arizona stave off four Dodger home runs (all solo, two by Betts) with his 2 for 4 effort which included a rbi double and two run home run.

Zac Gallen was able to pick up a victory despite not being as dominant as he was throughout the regular season (6.0 IP 6 H 3 R 1 SO 1 BB)

Luis Urias took the loss as he was only able to get through five innings after allowing four runs, walking two and also striking out just a single batter.

Arizona will look to take control of the series in game two on Friday.

Milwaukee outlasts New York in game 1

                Final Score
                Milwaukee-1
                New York-0

The Brewers and Mets will probably wish they didnt have to play again on Friday. The first game of their NLDS matchup went a whopping 20 innings with no runs being scored until the bottom of that final inning.

Jacob DeGrom and Brandon Woodruff battled it out with Degrom throwing 7.2 strong innings in which he allowed just two hits as he gathered seven strikouts.

Woodruff pitched the equivalent of a complete one hit game while he also struck out seven.

Rowdy Tellez got the faithful RBI that ended the game in the bottom of the 20th.

*note* The twenty innings is the most innings played in an MLB playoff game.

2022 Arizona Diamondbacks NLDS Game 2

                  Final Score
                  Los Angeles-7
                  Arizona-2

                  Series tied 1-1

Dodgers dominate game two to tie series

The NLDS between Arizona and Los Angeles will head to California with the series tied. Dustin May and the rest of the Dodgers dominated the Diamondbacks on Friday en route to a 7-2 victory. May's high velocity sinker gave the D-Backs hitters trouble all night until he was pulled after eight well pitched innings.

Los Angeles got the early lead again and in the same fashion as game one, just a inning later. In the second inning of the game, Will Smith collected his second homer of the series with a solo shot that set the tone for the game.

Arizona thought about taking the momentum back in the bottom of the fourth inning after Ketel Marte got to third base with two outs in the inning. David Peralta came to bat with the chance to tie the game with a base hit. In that at bat, he hit a sinking line drive into right field that looked as if it was going to do just that. Unfortunately for Peralta and the Diamondbacks, Mookie Betts occupied that same portion of the field and was able to dive and rob Peralta and the momentum from Arizona.

Los Angeles kept it going as they scored six additional runs off of Madison Bumgarner, a rally that would knock him out of the game.

Corbin Martin replaced Bumgarner and didnt allow another run as Arizona did manage two runs (both in 8th inning) but that was too little too late as Los Angeles took the victory and tied the series at one game a piece.

The teams will now have a day off before travelling to Los Angeles where Arizona will need to take homefield advantage back with at least one win.

                    ARZ leads series 2-1

Diamondbacks withstand early Dodger attack, take series lead 2-1

As has been the theme in the series, Los Angeles again got off to an early start as they scored a single run in each of the first three innings. Mookie Betts provided the earliest fireworks for L.A. with a first inning triple. The next batter, Freddie Freeman then knocked him in with a swinging bunt rbi single.

David Peralta has been Arizona's hottest hitter thus far in the post season and he was the first to get Arizona after he got a double and was eventually knocked in with a Daulton Varsho sac fly. Speaking of Varsho, this was his first game of the playoffs after he suffered a mild injury before game one of the series.

As mentioned earlier, Los Angeles added two more runs, one in the bottom of the second on a Josh Turner double and another in the third on Will Smith's third homer of the series.

At that time, Arizona was down 3-1 and couldnt get much going against LA's starter Tony Gonsolin who only allowed three hits on the day. Arizona's players also knew that it would be very difficult to come back in the series if LA was to take the 2-1 lead.

Luckily for Arizona, Gonsolin became gassed after just the fifth inning. Following his departure, Ketel Marte welcomed his replaced, Jimmy Nelson into the game with a first pitch blast over the right field wall, Marte's second homer of the series. Later in the inning, Christian Walker added a three run shot of his own which led to a lead and eventual win 5-3.

Arizona now looks forward to attempting to close out the series in game four.

Well, that was not fun. Crucial 3-game series against the Rays at home and the Blue Jays were outscored 30-9 and gave up 14 home runs in a very one-sided sweep by Tampa Bay.

Blue Jays are now 3.5 games back in the AL East, and a game behind the Yankees for 2nd place and the 1st Wild Card. They are .5 games ahead of Los Angeles and Seattle (tied for the AL West) for the 2nd Wild Card.

Oh, and Cavan Biggio is day-to-day with a shoulder injury.

                      15 games remaining.

Yankees Sweep Orioles In 3, Split Subway Series, To Begin Second Half

Coming out of the ASB, we’d sweep Baltimore by scores of 6-1, 4-2, and 3-1. The 3-1 victory came in a 1-1 battle that went 10 innings. In a quick 2 game set with the Mets, we’d take game 1 vs Scherzer 2-1, and drop game 2 5-2.

BREAKING: Yankees Acquire OF Juan Soto

With all reports saying the Yankees had no plans of any further noteworthy deals following the Benintendi acquisition and a series of smaller moves, all bets were off once the Nationals made superstar Juan Soto available. The Yankees engaged with Washington, and put all their best chips on the table.

                          Going To Washington:
                          SS Anthony Volpe (A POT
                          OF Jasson Dominguez (A POT)
                          SP Mackenzie Gore (A POT
SP Luis Gil (B POT 75 OVR)
                          OF Tristen Lutz (B POT)
OF Estevan Florial ( C POT, hot season at AAA)

A huge prospect package goes to DC, including the Yankees 4 top prospects. 3/6 pieces in this return are MLB ready, as Gore, Gil, and Florial, will join the Nats MLB club immediately, with Dominguez expected to open the 2023 season in the majors.

Meanwhile, for the Yankees, Soto will become the everyday LF, bumping Stanton into the DH spot. The Soto addition adds extra uncertainty to the Aaron Judge contract situation, but at least for the next few months, Soto, Stanton, and Judge, will unite to form a modern day Murderer’s Row in the Bronx.

Question for all you franchise folks. When you release a player does their salary no longer apply to the budget. In a test franchise where i mess around with a bunch of different aspects I released Aaron judge who I signed the year prior for 9 years/315M. I know when you release a player from the roster screen you get an alert for the money you would owe the player over the next 3 seasons. After the release when I view my budget it looks like his contract is completely gone. Is there something I'm missing or does the money owed magically disappear from the budget? Thanks for your insight.

ok sorry for asking this and not searching but for some reason I cant use the search thread option, I just wanted to know what does everyone do for the ignore budget option. Does turning it off mess up the franchise later on or is that what you guys do?

Ignore budget off means teams follow their respective budget numbers similar to real life. On means anyone can have inflated budgets and sign any player.
