See previous statement. They are good, but they have an advantage obviously.

Lmao, they play in the toughest or second toughest division in baseball. The Reds, Pirates, and Cardinals are all top teams in baseball, and even the Cubs and Brewers *can* beat you. This NL stuff, lol.

We need to sweep the terrible Twins this weekend. No excuses.

I hope JP starts paying attention to his craft as much as he does the media criticism. I think he's got a great potential (not showing it this season but I think it's there) but his attitude is terrible.

I disagree. He'll never get on base enough or have good enough defensive skills to really be a good catcher, but since he hits bombs, everyone loves him. His absolute ceiling may be .240/.305/.450 with ~25 home runs and **** defense. His only plus tool - power - is only plus relative to his position. Being as objective as I can be, I think he's a second division starter at best.

Lmao, okay, this guy isn't even likable anymore. He's just crap. All of you should give that a read. Now he's pulling **** in the media, too.

EDIT: Hayhurst and Zaun just responded. Both were very cool, very professional, said all the right things, they understand why he said everything, I'm quite impressed with how they handled this. Only talking points:

Zaun: If I was playing like JP right now, I'd be frustrated too
Zaun: I think it's a little unfair that he grouped the whole team together

Those were the only real points, everything else was downplaying this. I'm surprised Zaun handled this well, and unsurprised Hayhurst handled this well. Also, liked the Hazel Maye tidbit: Arencibia has more passed balls than walks this year.

                Jeez JP....

I disagree with the blogger at bluebirdbanter though. I like Zaun but yeah, Hayhurst can be a bit of a slog to listen to especially on Baseball Central. I'm glad to hear that the guys were very professional about it and I agree, I thought maybe Zaun would go off on JP but he kept his cool.

I think it's high time we get rid of JP.

                  Re: 2013 Toronto Blue Jays

The premise of JP's argument is absurd. It is not as if Zaun and Hayhurst are giving opinion on wholly subjective criteria. There are aspects of baseball that are universal and readily apparent regarding what makes a good catcher, and also how these things are transmitted to general team performance. These are are the basis of pundit criticism. It isn't some personal bent.

JP has decided to attack the individuals basically on the basis that they don't know how hard baseball is and don't understand why he is the player he is? I think Zaun and Hayhurst have readily acknowledged this about baseball, and their criticism is in JP's inability to learn and adapt to said difficulty.

Lastly, nobody is expecting these guys to be geniuses, but the statement about "too much negativity" in the world is just inane philosophizing from a baseball player, and has no place in criticism of sports punditry. Look, Zaun an Hayhurst can be dicks, but don't take a moral superiority approach if you disagree with them.

Like others have said, I would be fine with keeping Rasmus and his boom/bust offense because he seems like a good team guy and is an excellent fielder. JP lacks so much in his all around game that it renders his power numbers inert.

Bringing up the steroids was pathetic. Zaun was only alleged to have done steroids, by the Mitchell Report. No proof I don't *think.*

Call me a pessimist but I have a bad feeling that this season is about to completely fall off the rails.

Hopefully the Jays can prove me wrong and show some signs of life by beating up on the Twinkies.

A 9-0 loss pretty much ensures that at this point

It's also ironic or maybe coincidental that we talk up Rasmus' defense and he commits his 2nd error of the season.

It was a bit of a knuckler off the bat.

Holy hell, he's only committed 2 errors, eh? Nice.

That's how it goes. As soon as we believe in some aspect of the team in any positive sense the damned baseball gods smite us.

Well, San Francisco did lose 17-8 and 10-0 last year and they managed just fine, so it ain't good, but it doesn't mean all is lost. Also lost 9-0 before winning 10 of their next 13 and the World Series.
