After watching Markkanen do a simple one dribble quick cross on Derozan from the 3pt line all the way for dunk(something I'm not sure is possible in 2K22 with those two players) it makes it even more clear that help/cutter defense is foundationally more important than stonewalling individual defense on the perimeter.

I saw Scottie Barnes do a quick first step hard dribble right past Danny Green for a dunk the other day as well. Beating most players on the perimeter needs to be relatively easy, and a lot of times plays like the two that I mentioned will happen with relatively little help, but most of the time the scramble that happens after the first guy is beat/semi beat needs to be the core aspect of most of the offensive defensive sequences either one on one or in the pick and roll.

Of course I would imagine that the nonsensically high open shooting online is an blight that makes this unlikely to be made into a reality, especially because of the too frequent makes of the corner three.

At release the cpu defenders were dodging screens like a madman. Now they seem to get caught on everything making it worse. I tried putting cpu strength to 100 and user to 0 but it does nothing to help. 2K really needs to re-test all their sliders and settings. Maybe simplify things. Why have a steal slider on defence and a steal attribute slider? Maybe remove some but add a pick dodging slider lol. I’m shooting 94.7% in MyNBA since the FT slider is broken this year. Still no fix.

It's been like this for the last 4 series of 2k since 2k18 at least. It's not just slider that is broken but overall FT mechanic is broken for 4 years.

I just played like six minutes against the Nets. Saw no help unless it was super late, and the hedge coverage on the pick-and-roll by the AI was horrible. They don't know how to drop, even on someone like Westbrook, and the screener's defender takes very poor angles.

I think we (or at least I) would be able to live with it if, say, the pick-and-roll two-man defense was bad, but help defense was on point, or vice versa, but it's *both*, and that will cripple any NBA defense.

I am actually glad to hear that defenders get stuck on screens instead of unrealistically warping through them. But in the games current state it just makes it worse. But if the hedger dropped or if the tag was there and help was where it should be then it would be welcomed IMO.

I was watching the pre season game with Lakers and Suns last night and for a pre season game I saw some great defense. Tons of help, tags, and drop coverages by both teams. None of which we have right now in 2k.

This morning I watched the cpu defender run away from Jerami Grant to make sure he sagged off him at the 3 point line. He literally turned around, ran to a spot then turned back around. It left me wondering. Does the cpu defender not know how to back pedal in this game? Do they not use L2 at any time? Is this why they never execute drop coverage properly?

I get the “drop” communication when I’m playing defence in the PNR at times so the cpu must use the same logic but I can’t remember them actually executing it properly. Am I crazy?

The second you start to shoot or gather for a shot defenders in the area go into contest mode. I think this affects the pnr defense by the bigs

Great point. Have never seen the hedge defender get into a defensive shuffle position. We need more logic for contextual on ball defender logic in general. CPU just chases behind you currently

I had a little epiphany this morning whilst playing blacktop against good CPU defenders on HOF. I avoided PNR and was just isoing. I think the developers might not even see help D as an issue. With the sticky on ball d and OP blocks it's difficult for me to say that the defense is 'easy'. It's just the PnR that's super cheesy.

When I saw Czar playing with CJ Mccollum he was loving the iso and battle to get separation. Combined with his complete silence on this topic I doubt our situation affects his enjoyment of the game at all. It doesn't really effect my enjoyment unless I want to run an offense or get a manual PNR late in the shot clock.

Unfortunately I want to do these things but 2k ain't really about that. They showed that they can have some semblance of help D at release but those days are gone I think.

All this is to say at page 68 of this topic I'm tapping out. Good luck fellas, you've done a fantastic job for the cause on this thread and I hope you get what you want in the end. I just know I can get some $$ for my disk still and I'm so over of loading up 2k to be disappointed.
